Before Ns 2.0

anyone else miss ns before 2.0? i loved that ns... the teams all had tremendous teamplay.... aliens had to be compitetive towards hives..... marines coudlnt jsut electrify every res node so they had to care about the res intake..... people coudlnt jsut save for fade or onos and ahd to care about the team..... and people had to relay on teams, for example a gorge webs up afew has and a fade kills them.... those were the days, anyone else miss ns 1.04 and what not? lol

Not, due to the JP/HMG rushes. They made it a make-or-break. If it works, you win. If not, everyone F4 and try again next round. Though I do miss 1.02 'Predator Mode' games.

i came when it was ns 1.04 if i remember.. that one was fun... once marines had a 2 hvie lockdown the aliens had to work together or lose.... only bad thing was when every knew a team had lsot and coudlnt doa nything about it for liek half an hour..... but beyond the time... it was really fun

not to mention the armoury that loved you (heart-shaped health ring), the advanced armoury with no health at all, stacking turrets on tfs with a tf on the top, then recycling the bottom tf, bloking off the door in siege_005 with a wall of commcahirs.

But hunting down the marine hiding in a vent in nancy with scent of fear after their base was completely gone was fun. so was using /stuck on the glass and jumping outside the map, putting up loads of DCs and hiding. then having the marines siege creep up the ramp into nancy cockpit.

blinking across wast handling hive, swiping a marine and blinking back out to cries of "WTH??" and "OMG H4X!". Early days of 1.04, trying to go fade with 44 res. Biting two jpers in viaduct in one swoop across the bridge as the "old skool" lerk

The prospects of Gorges "sucking" in 2.0

    good times...

The NS we play today is the same somewhat... If marines have taken 2 hives they "SHOULD" win <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo--> JP + Hmg was wacko and changed, but i still see Comms using it, dosent work that great tho. Ithink the teamplay is in the game from comm view, also by wanting to work as a team. Alot of ramboplayers dont want to teamwork and this is a problem for "Public" games <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo--> But i kinda hope ramboplayers play NS:Combat and leave NS:Pure forever <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

I miss aliens being able to use the phase gate and teleporting around. Nothing was more fun than phasing into the marine base as a fade and owning everything! <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

But besides that, NO! The 1.0X days were hard to play. You had to be really good to get a lot of kills and not to mention the two hive end game. I miss some aspects of 1.04 but for the most part, I like V2 better. Can be decent and help change the tide of the game.

I miss the whole "New feeling" that pre-2.0 ns builds had. I'm not saying 2.0 is crap, it's just that it's lost a lot of it's novelty.

Btw, i can't even remember what the old turrets looked like. I remember them being big, but i can't picture them in my mind.... screenie plz? lol

A 1.05 would be cool. Fixed JP's skulks orienting and the new scent of fear. That would own so much.

I am proud to be a rambo. Early on in the game the comm needs rts. Without rambos, he would never get them.
You ever tried forming a squad of players at the start fo the game? Sure. Got them to move together? Yeah, right.

Rambo players get the job done. Nice and slick too. Even mid game a rambo with Jet+Shottie can clear out those rambo skulks easily.

Rambos suck end game though, as more powerful lifeforms need larger groups of marines. HA Trains <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

Stickman, turrets have not changed in size from what I can remember. The REALLY early screenies are still on the ns website. This one illustrates the old turret in the commander TF dialogue:

I started playing at version 1.02 I think, thought I don't remember much about the pre 1.04 versions except that marine players could FF their buildings (like 1 of every 5 games some guy would go marine and just kill all the buildings, GG).

Also the 3500hp phase gate, where comms didn't have to scream at their marines to stop getting bullets because the phase gate was so insanely durable <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo--> .

Oh, and the stopcommandermode exploit(type stopcommandermode in console as an alien, you turned into a marine with like 4x run speed, normal health and default loadout, 50/50 LMG 10/10 pistol, and could still kill the marines, but still vulnerable) that became rampant during 1.03. <!--emo&--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/mad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='mad.gif'><!--endemo-->

I don't really miss 1.04. The JP/HMG rush was too common and two hives was usually all the aliens needed to beat the marines since they would get umbra+web+acid rocket which were all very powerful abilities. Also DC was almost mandatory to win unless the teams were heavily stacked, as carapace was "teh jesus" back then.

Playing gorge was better though, people actually argued with each other to be the gorge because you would get res at a decent rate so you were almost never waiting for res, exception being the 80 res needed for a hive back then. One gorge would get more res than multiple gorges, so anyone who went gorge before the second hive was going up would be flamed. The fact alien teams relied on a single gorge led to a early game rambo tactic where you would hunt the gorge since if he died it would significantly delay those uber two hive aliens. Of course, people then started playing as dedicated skulk bodyguards to the gorge to prevent him from dying to a gorge hunter.

*sighs* The poor gorgy, he's fallen from being the high honor of the alien team to the lowly, unappreciated position that few people want but many have to fulfill. <!--emo&::gorge::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/pudgy.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='pudgy.gif'><!--endemo-->

Anyways I think 2.01 is overall a better version, but there's still room for improvement which I hope 3.0 will fill somewhat.

EDIT: Oh, and one aesthetic problem was that in 1.04, killing aliens with anything other than the LMG/knife caused them to gib, however there are no gibs for the mod so what happened was that the alien just seemed to pop and disappear into thin air after you killed it. <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->

I dont Know what the build of NS was when i started playing, but i remember seeing an add for it. Ns had just been released a few hours ago and I said to myself "hey nifty stuff" dled it and didnt play for 2 days confused from using the icon and then recieving error message about you must have Natural selection mod installed/activated to play..once i got it to work everything was dark...very dark couldnt see shizit...but i still enjoyed it first map I ever played was Ns_eclipse, first map I ever gorged was ns_nancy at 4 am, 4 person server and there I met one of my best NS buddys, from then on I lovededed the gorge <!--emo&::gorge::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/pudgy.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='pudgy.gif'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&::gorge::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/pudgy.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='pudgy.gif'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&::gorge::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/pudgy.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='pudgy.gif'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&::gorge::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/pudgy.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='pudgy.gif'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&::gorge::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/pudgy.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='pudgy.gif'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&::gorge::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/pudgy.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='pudgy.gif'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&::nerdy::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/nerd.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='nerd.gif'><!--endemo-->

1.0 ( to 1.04) was just new, a new mod with completely new and cool ideas, so naturally you feel more attracted to the original. 2.0 didn't produce <b>that</b> many changes, so after a bit you felt like you were playing the same game again.

3.0, however, will produce new, and fun things so it will defintely leave a good impression.

The one thing i really really miss is when few people knew the maps. Then your marines would find a hidden passage and setup shop and the aliens wouldn't have a clue.
One of my best games was on bast we setup a cc and ips in the vent just down the ladder from feed. Got everybody to spawn there and we all rushed their hive toghether before they had anything. It was absolutely magical! <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

    1.0 was great, I remember the 1.00. So much lag. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo--> 1.01 was nuke-launchers and still lag.
I can't really remember much of 1.02, but in 1.03 there was the stopcommandermode glitch which was alot of fun sometimes.
1.04 was the JP/HMG era and the working ns_nancy. =/

The pre-jp/hmg era. was the time of swarms of HA and actual hive-capturing.
When people saw how jetpacks were, they'd just cap one node, defend it then hand out 2 HMG/JPs and gg.

The only new thing you'll be getting in 3.0 is combat, regular NS is basically untouched from 2.01 so it's not going to be a "completely new game" like 1.04 to 2.0
