    A note on blink, to reach a high area but need to get back on the floor without getting hurt from falling to high, you can always blink to the ceiling then aim to the area and blink downwards at your wanted location to prevent loss of health when falling. If you need a clearer idea ask for a demo and i'll try to get one

    Tips I put elsewhere, repeated here for convenience of reading -

    1 - Do not lead the enemy to gorges, they are shotgun fodder and when they've spent 10 mins building towers then they will NOT be happy.

    2 - There are other units than the Onos.

    3 - Always always re read the manual - I spent my first hour wondering why bile bombing marines wasn't working..................

    A lerk with a gorge on it can carry it far (also in normal maps, without mods) just keep jumping, will get the gorge upwards

    The nicest thing I ever did (besides solely winning a PCW-round by knifing a hive) is a strategy my friends and I did once. It was Eclipse, and the marines had maintenance SO BADLY......it was completely even, 5v5 RTs or 4v4, and it looked endless. But then some of my friends got an idea

    When computer core was done (we had Eclipse command as base, with DCs) we got 3 MCs in Eclipsecommand, and the we allowed the marines to kill computer core hive....then we drove them out, and rebuilt the hive.....having the 3 MC-upgrades and now also being able to SCspam everywhere.....

    mmm SCspam....yummy

    The map took over 1½ hour, in the end, marines dug in in maintenance, my friends and I were 6 lerks staying together (you would be surprised how fast we nail 4-5 HA in a long corridor, an onos to stomp, and we spike anyone who isnt hit by the stomp/who seems to be hit the most, even RTs die quite quickly).....we kept killing their armory, so they mostly had shotguns, which dont exactly rule at range

    At the end Maintenance was a turretfarm, and while 4 onos was making stomp to divert attention (2 accessways in there, imagine 5-6 LMGs covering those) (pistol-bullet 20 damage, 10 per clip thats 200 damage, 5 marines thats 1000 damage just with pistol, I think we can agree that firing it quickly is easy, and who cant hit an onos in a shallow walk-pad), my friends and I quickly slipped in via vents as lerks and killed off a building at a time.........was fun, and it felt so good to win that round.
    it was a 15v15-match btw, marines mostly win those...

    I didn't read the entire thread but most of it and no one mentioned the xeno/leap thingy. I've seen some skulks leap then xeno ... that's a no no. Xeno, wait a split second, turn corner, leap, run like mad if you have extra time left before the blast (while staying close to your marines).

    Xeno bombs work best as a fade has attacked and is retreating for two reasons: 1) the are weakened from the few slashes the fade got in and 2) they are most likely **** at the fade and won't expect a suicide bombing.

    i don't know about you but for me, this only lets me slow my decent, and i find it quite useless <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif' /><!--endemo--><!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

    Little tip for gliding, when you JUMP keep hitting it so your a few feet of the ground, then hit your forward key then hold down the jump button and you should go flying forward.

    if that doesnt work, there is another method, and my personal favorite, get a small running start, stop running but imidiatly start hittting jump 4 5 maybe 6 times, then hit forward key again and smack into wall, or marine <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo--> for this to work you NEED to be morving forward at all times while jumping up a little (its hard to explain HOW to do it but if you find me in a server ask me how to do it and i will show you) also feel free to ask me for a demo and i will try to get it to you

    I should probably confirm that gorge web is only limited on a per-area basis. There doesn't seem to be any realistic limit on how many webs you can put up on a map.

    You can also use gorge's spit attack on switches and levers, which u would usually hit 'use' on.

    Never use redempt with xeno skulk... half the time, you click 'fire', activate xenocide, get hit, and regenerate at your hive to blow up spectacularly
    ( <!--emo&::skulk::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/skulk.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='skulk.gif' /><!--endemo--> +xeno + <!--emo&::asrifle::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/asrifle.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='asrifle.gif' /><!--endemo--> = BOOM) <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    marines tend to rely on their hearing... if you are playing CO, or are just a regular skulk, it pays to get silence, as you can sneak up on unsuspecting marines and have a good ol' picnic ;O

    try using leap with adrenaline. You can bounce around in a zigzag fashion off ceilings and walls to confuse your marine opponents, and then jump/leap/fall down for a kill. Its really quite scary to see a crazy skulk bouncing around the room and finally bite you when u run dry...

    It is usually a good tactic to build dc (defence chambers) first at the start of a round if you are gorge for redempt and regen, but it with 3.0, it is quite usefull to build sc (sensory chambers) [although frowned upon by the majority] so that you can use focus (double's attack damage, while halving your attack speed) or cloaking (makes you invisible)

    Its always fun to wait for marines to pass by your vent, and then stalk them from behind as a skulk, (and kill them)

    It is always good for you to parasite all marine structures upon arrival. This means that your gorges/assault brethren will know where the marine emplacements are, and it may also save you from walking into a turret farm.

    when in doubt... fade

    pretty good guide.
    but, most of the decent players become good through practice and emulating what other people do.

    GLIDE OWNS, i just learned bat, well , yesterday...

    not only does it not use up your energy (pre-adrenaline <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    it makes NO SOUND..

    you can glide right next to the ceiling above everyones head silently, then swoop forthe attack,

    <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    if used right glide can save your **** when low on energy or allow super stelth ambushes...

    SUPER OWNAGE WITH PRIMAL SCREAM< you can take out a team of heavies so easy...

    i think primal scream gives you focus bite, with same speed as normal bite, so like 3 bites in a second =300 dmg? lol

    btw silent glidein <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    i was playing fade a lot, but screw it bat freaking owns, and awesome team support, i still cant umbrella bite, i justspore and attack or just sneak attakc lol
  • j3stj3st Join Date: 2004-06-28 Member: 29602Members
    primal scream gives you focus bite??? i never knew that! i blame that on pubbers who rarely use primal scream <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    well to my knowledge primal scream only boosts adren and faster rate of fire for slot 1 abilities...

    anyone like to clarify? :S

    Its kind of impossible to use spikes on most servers, it being a mod and all.

    The only p[roblem with glide being you slowly lose speed and cannot fly upwards. The easy way to avoid this is too simply find a pattern of flaps thats keeps you airbourne while conserving energy. IE flap..wait 2 seconds flap wait 2 seconds.

    glide-->if you want to gain speed and you're a lazy-**** just aim down and pull back up. You'll gain alittle speed that way, and it's very useful as swoops.

    3. 'blast'back from explosion causes others slose by to lose their aim at the fades.

    One good thing to listen for is their Requests to comm. Today I was waiting above a door and I heard a marine on the other side ask for a med pack. As soon as I heard that I went down and killed him immediately. Of course the guy that was next to him killed me but I still killed the first guy.

    what the heck are babblers? Are they still in the game and i just missed them?

    and why isn't DMS the best chamber order anymore?

    Babblers are AI controlled skulks spawned by gorge's 3rd hive attack in 1.0-1.04 era. They did some bite damage and xenoxided after a little while. They got removed because of bugs, bad AI and heavy load they caused on serverside.

    DMS is still possible. Generally mc is good because of the free upgrades introduced in 3.0 final. Since the upgrades are free, skulks make use of them big time and for skulks mc offers silence and celerity. SC also got focus in some late 2.0, which is arguably the most powerful upgrade in the game when mixed up with cara or cele.
    DC is good, but cara skulking is a bit tricky and most people do better with cele and silence. MC also allows lerks to play a lot more aggressive and bite more.

    -You can hide behind buildings to prevent turrets from shooting you, and can sometimes take out entire bases by yourself because a commander didnt defend all sides of his turret factory

    -If a marine touches a sensory chamber he becomes parasited

    -movement chambers can be used to go to the hive farthest away from your location<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

    Never knew that you could hide behind buildings just to prevent getting hit for turrets, never got the chance to do so. A marine touching a sensory chamber explains how I get parasited as marine when no alien die next to me. [thats how I think you get parasited beside sensory chamber way] Also thought movement chambers prefer to teleport you to hives being attacked, other wise I thought they teleport you to a random hive[3 hives only] the 2 hive teleport is pretty straight forward.

    my favorite tactic is,as a fade,to wait in a out-of-the-way dark place with cloak on and silence. when marines come into the area i wait til they are almost gone then fly in,kill the last 2 marines or stragglers, and fly out before they realize what happened.so basically...
