Gunbound is a pretty popular game. I'm surprised you've managed to not hear about it yet.

But Mullet, could you elaborate? Is Gunbound becoming pay to play? The frontpage doesn't mention anything.

It would appear it's still free to play, but you have to use real money to buy avatar clothing and such.....

I think the Gunbound team desperately needs a translator. I know they're probably trying their best, but it's really hard to understand what they mean sometimes.
  • esunaesuna Rock Bottom Join Date: 2003-04-03 Member: 15175Members, Constellation
Ok, i've just checked it out. Gunbound is still free to play and you can still buy clothes etc with ingame gold. There is, however, a greatly reduced price marked as "cash" for each item. The way this works is you pay the gunbound team real money, and in exchange they give you "cash". Basically, if you want, you can now spend your own money on clothing rather than working hard.

It's quite a cool little scheme. Us cheapskates can still play the game, and people with too much money than sense can get the items they want. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

From now on, in AC2, i shall be talking engrish only. That reminds me, are you still playing it gem?

    not really =/

I felt that if I'd been given the post of beta tester I should really do it so I've been testing Horizons. Now that it's closed I feel the hankering for more MMORPGing but with something I've not tried before. I'll probably hit AC2 again though if anyone wants to play with me ^^

    In the meantime I've applied for the betas in <a href='http://www.realmsoftorment.net' target='_blank'>Realms of Torment</a> and <a href='http://www.darkandlight.com' target='_blank'>Dark and Light</a> =3

RoT is very, very different from the usual MMORPG stuff and includes such things as having children, lifespans, perma-death, players teaching other players and a shedload of other things that differ drastically from the usual grind of levelling-based games.

Dark and Light is pretty ambitious though they're already in beta with it. It features some of the largest maps you'll ever find in MMORPGing, a weather system so dynamic and complex it's almost real and Kingdom vs Kindgom (light vs dark) action on a scale that makes DAoC look dinky XD
The weather thing is quite impressive as it even goes so far as to effect your player; heavy snow makes moving about hard and rain makes the ground wet 'n slippery which can effect fights and stuff. The terrain is procedurally generated and there's a heavy emphasis on exploration as well as finding/conquering new towns and stuff. For those less combat-orientated it's possible to help your kingdom win through economic or political means too ^^

It apears to be almost identical to Neocron, event he music.
They started looking at the beta aplicants yesterday, and are starting to selected testers, unselected players will be put forward to the next phase of testing.

jeez the charge for cash is insane. $1 per 1000 gold... what are they thinking? I can make 10,000 gold per hour playing gunbound, and if I could sell it for $10, I'd have a decent paying job playing a video game =P you're definitely better off buying things on e-bay if you're too lazy to earn gold yourself.

Is it acctually like Scorched Earth, napalm and all, or is it that crazy Japenese stuff with moon beams and star blasts?

If it isn't anime/rpgish I think I'll get it. Scorched Earth was an awesome game, I fondly remeber being blasted off cliffs only to have my little parachute pop out and save the day while my friend would yell out... obscenities.

OK people I don't understand something we A. Have been playing gun bound for bout half a year (Thats how long I've been at it) for free on their server code and they do the maintenance, update our ranks, and put in new items all for free! not a single penny asked now that they've given you incentive to donate such as flayras you become a constellations you get to play NS 3.0 Early... you think its crazy I would've given them 20 bucks sooner for nothing but at least now I can go buy me a funky disco hat (anyone else thing it looks super sayen?)

Gun bound is still free and all it is now is the ability to give that great team some money.

Yeah, I saw that thing about buying money too. Apart from all the discussion about buying virtual money with real money, the prices ARE pretty steep. But hey, on the other hand that means that you'd have to be pretty rich to be able to buy the good stuff (That cool helmet? Yeah, 350$), so I don't see any big problem. They don't alienate players that don't pay up, they just generate a little revenue for themselves. I don't see much wrong with that (yeah, it's CAPITALISM. So what? Money makes the world go round).

notice: $10 dollars an hour isn't a good rate... You can easily get $30/hour writing an odd excel macro for some company or group. (proven by experiment)

about the game, it's perked my interest, now where can I download it without needing to wait 6 hours? (Does a better download site have it?)

edit: where do I find such jobs? The one I got was for a medical group, but you can get them from any group that doesn't have technical talent onsite.

You'd think such a popular game would have had some good translaters by now. The manual is less than helpful, and I hope my old Scorched Earth skills can pull me through.

Reading the "avatar" screen, seems people can send items. So....if anyone has any items lieing around, send them to BF22 (shocking how all my other names were taken, and they were obscure as it is). transmission, did you just download from the main site? I can't get a good speed anywhere. Highest I can get is 14, but that dropped to 2k before too long.

Getting 42 kb/s from the site, so I guess it's just you.

    BTW, what is "bunge"?

And these powers (force, hurricane, etc) do you start with them or are they part of the avatars?

    practice, practice =P

    a. sate and grub seem to be good for newbies... stay away from boomer... dragshot is harder to get used to, but is speedier and more accurate in the long run I think... keep an eye on your delay... umm... I dunno, read the faqs on www.gamefaqs.com ? hehe

as for satellite, Gwahir, are you referring to a. sate? he doesn't shoot directly at his enemies, but rather he fires a tracer, and where it lands, his satellite shoots...

oh, now I notice neither of you has even played the game before so I have to get very basic =P each mobile has 3 different attacks, tab switches between em. the first is generally weak and fast, the second is generally a little slower but more powerful, and the third (SS) is really slow, is generally hard to use, and is very rarely worth it. all the bots are very different, though. hmm. just practice and watch how everyone plays. and stay in the newbie zones as long as possible!

a couple things that aren't obvious to a beginner: the items you select at the beginning of a match don't cost money -- the number is how much delay they add to your turn. I generally pick a dual, a thunder, and a teleport if I'm doing random, or 2 duals and a teleport if I'm using a power bot (nak, turtle, etc). thunder is good for digging holes under people (which is what bunging is btw -- knocking someone into a hole or off the map to kill them), duals are good for doing hella damage, and teleport is for escaping nasty situations =>

force, hurricane, etc are weather -- there's a bar in the upper-left corner that shows the current weather, and what weather is coming up... most weather shows up as something on the screen. force and lightning add power to your shot if your shot travels through it. hurricane spins your shot around, usually making it land slightly farther than it would have. Thor is the best -- he's a big thing in the sky that shoots down at wherever your shot lands, and he gets more powerful as the game progresses.

plop in some more specific questions if you have em <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo--> mostly you just gotta play to get used to it...
