dumps it so you CAN modify the contents... something useful if your looking to decompile the models and edit things... and hacking CS/DoD/TFC models isn't something you chould be doing.

    I need some help here.

I want to decompile my opposing force.gcf.

How do I do this? I don't really understand what to enter into the Destination Directory and what number to select in the Applicaiton number.

    Help?

    Well duh!
But all the files that it decompiles are normal files like HL uses.
It's not like it decompiles the source code of the .dlls or anythings.

.GCF files are just like .ZiP files!

I would hack the skeletons and animations from DoD to be used in DoD. Their new animation system is Bjork'ed. Everyopne looking sideways is damned confusing. Try to take my time to shoot, get shot, die...

Aren't VALVe's products usable in other VALVe products [between CS, DoD, TFC, other mods] unless otherwise stated by the mod's makers [in the case of non-VALVe mods]?

The only issue I'm personally aware of [which isn't saying much] is that they don't want the leaked version of CS:CZ's [which I don't have because I don't care about CS one bit] models to be released and/or used [though some of them or versions of them or remakes of some of them are used in CS:X] and such.

My main concern is DoD anyway.
  • BlackPantherBlackPanther Join Date: 2002-02-11 Member: 197Members
unfortunatly, every CS:CZ model is already available due to the hack at Valve HQ <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->

From the sound of the log-in process needed to extract the files, it seems it <b>may</b> [I'm just guessing] contain source code bits from the stuff stolen from VALVe, which may make this a highly illegal little piece of software. This is only a thought, though. Something to consider.

Trp. Jed, over at the DoD forums, is making one from scratch, without using stolen code. Knowing him, it'll be real easy and convenient to use. You can keep track of its status <a href='http://www.dayofdefeat.net/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=22482&perpage=15&pagenumber=1' target='_blank'>here</a>.

I won't be touching this one until I hear whether it's using stolen code or not. I've managed to avoid messing with that whole theft and I'd like it to stay that way, no matter what reasons or excuses anyone has for it.

I have just finished decompiling every .gcf... took me an hour!

    ...and now my HD is almost full <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

But it did not decompile any files it shouldn't have decompiled.
As i suspected, the .gcf is simply a glorified .ZIP made by VALVe.

True, GCF was never made by valve. It was made by a company named optionsoftware.

another beta GCF extractor that does not need steam to work.
    <a href='http://countermap.counter-strike.net/Nemesis/index.php?p=1' target='_blank'>http://countermap.counter-strike.net/Nemes...s/index.php?p=1</a>

it is by Nemisis, whom many of you know already thru his batch compiler program front end.

check it out, give him feed back on what works and doesn't - and soon we will have a clean GCF extractor that will not need STEAM.

    hmmm

im hoping that Valve will release something official for this... since Steam is going to be used for mods and they'll want to help them.

Are you using old custom skins in the latest version of the beta? If so, that's why player models look like their heads are about to fall off.
  • Wolf_KahlerWolf_Kahler Join Date: 2002-11-29 Member: 10252Members
Noooo. As soon as I heard they incorporated an animation system with different blending, I knew the old ones wouldn't work. I guess they're waiting until they have the animations fixed before releasing a compiler. I can't get my sweet old models back. *sigh*

At present, there is no way to compile GCFs - there is still a section that hasn't been deciphered (which is suspected to contain checksums of the files).
If you want the game to recognise your files, place them in Steam\SteamApps\<e-mail>\<gcf name>\<path to file inside GCF>.
