I run a hlds on my comp, I cant connect to it from the same comp..
I was able to with WON, but installing steam broke it all..
It says Invalid Steam Userid ticket
I tried deleting clientregistry.blob for both....
I've tried logging out..
Its not the hlds, and its not the client, its steam

I prefer leaving it on, incase anyone else wants to play..
This WAS possible with won, just getting steam seems to have broken it

try to figure out what ports are creating the conflict?

I really don't think they should conflict, excpet for the steam auth port, which I cant change
This indicates that it was fixed some time ago. You may want to redownload HLTV, or get the server package and use that to run the HLTV setup.

Use the servers LAN address to connect to it.
I could use 192.168.1.2, 127.0.0.1, or whatever my normal ip is..
The problem is, is that if you dont use the lan one steam does not see it as a server on a lan, so it uses the conflicting ports to connect to the auth servers, this really needs to be fixed to include 127.0.0.1 in the lan..
So, the solution is connect using the servers LAN ip, not the internet one
Note: Your lan address may vary from mine, use ipconfig to determing it (WinXP, possibly 2k) or winipcfg in win 9x
and C:\Steam or whatever your steam directory may be. This works for me; but I don't often play on the same cpu as my server.
Its ok, I figured it out a long time ago, and if you look 2 posts up from yours I tell everyone the solution in nice bold words
