The problem with these names is that they're too individualistic, they don't sound like a name for a whole group of aliens (lvl 1-5).
To me, they sound like something a petowner would give their pets, if they had aliens for pets that is. The names for the different levels aren't supposed to be like that though.
Think of like, birds, or something. There's different kinds of birds, and we name each group of them. Seagulls, ravens, parrots, and whatever. The alien names sound like a name for a particular creature, like someone naming a parrot polly, then referring to every other parrot as polly.
I understand what you're trying to say but it's not really that simple. These aren't scientific names at all, they're more like names that the marines come up for the aliens. It's pretty easy to imagine a bunch of men fighting a bunch of similar aliens call them by the same name, even though it isn't a valid species designation. In other words, they're intended to be individualistic.
It might not be simple, but it is my impression that the decision for the names is already final and neither the poll nor our arguments will make any difference.
If I were a marine, I wouldn't have thought up <i>any</i> of those names, except maybe Fade or Skulk or Lerk, and even then, then latter two I'd probably just call Hunter, Coward, or Jumper.
If the names were backwards that would be stupid, they should just lock this topic, thenames are fine even the poll will probaly end up with the same names, so people just give up the names are going to stay the same.
No, the poll results are disastrous; less than half of the voters support the names. I wonder why the poll was started in the first place if the names have never been true subject to debate; a simple announcement would have been sufficient.
They can't change em now, I'm using them constantly in my writing now, and they do seem to a work in that. Of coarse I can't judge really cause I'm writing.
I'm with Goby - they're good names. You can call them whatever you want in game - I'll probably call Lerk a flier or whatnot over Voicecomm, and I'm sure I'll slip "Bob" in a couple of times without realizing it.
I think these five names should go in the manual. Keep up the good work, fellows.
Collateral and others: the poll was started not as a way to say "you guys come up with the names, we'll pick the most popular ones" but instead: "here are the names, unless most people hate them".
Names? What's in a name? That which we call a skulk, by any other name, would still smell as foul. So skulk would, if not skulk called, retain that horrific perfection which he owes without that title. Skulk, doff thy name, and for that name which is no part of thee, bite off my face.
Who cares, easier to type lvl3, lvl5 and so forth. <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo-->
I voted that I like the names off the bat, but looking back, I'd probably change my vote to "<i>They Need Some More Work</i>"
Are you a Developer? If so, then you will do what you wish.
Are you a Playtester? If so, then you have the best perspective out of all of us.
Are you a forumer? If so, you have a right to an opinion, but realize that no amount of whining will help you. The developers just waste three minutes of their day to take a break and check up on this thread, realizing how weird their fanbase is.
Do I dislike some of the names (i.e. Fade)? Of course. Does that make me special because I have Idea's that could be better? No. It is a matter of the Developers opinion. If Fade seems more asthetic than Blinky, or Vec to Flayra, then that is what the name shall be.
P.S. Yes I know I have blatantly used color SpiderMonkey. It isn't my fault, blame Molecular!

I think the names are pritty good. They might need some work but i cant say anything because i have no imaganation <!--emo&:(--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':('><!--endemo-->
Those mods sure are quick to catch people on that... either that or I haven't been here a while...
On a similar note, why are there so many posts here? I still think it's a bad idea to change them if they're already hard-coded in for the <i>first</i> release... we just want teh gmae! (<- Misspelled on purpose.)
Doh! Now more people love the names than dislike/hate. <b>72-70</b>

Did that make sense?
48 + 22 = 70 (Don't like/Could use work)
69 = 69 (Like)
One more person thinks they could use work or don't like them. And that's not counting the people not sure.
Look, now it's up to 73-69.
Gorge still kind of bothers me though. *shrug*
I still hate them.
And I do mean hate them. Really hate them. I find them offensive intellectually and aesthetically.
Not that it'll make a difference, but I just wanted to say it once.
I think these five names should go in the manual. Keep up the good work, fellows.

B. Gorge means to eat a lot of food, "He gorged himself on the cake." which is sort of similar to his old nick of pudgy.
