Ns_blitz Overview

<div class="IPBDescription">Something's not right here...</div> It's been a while since I've posted anything about my map here. In that time, I've completed about 40% of my map. Now that I've gotten this far, I've decided to change my layout. I changed it yesterday, and this morning I looked at it and decided that it has problems.

For example, my upper hive and my right hive are too close. I'm thinking about adding an elevator to the room that is about halfway between them, but it might not be enough. Also, skulks, lerks, fades, and jetpackers would all be able to get through the elevator shaft without having to wait for the lift.

I've also noticed that my MS to Hive distances are unequal- MS to upper is much shorter than the other two, and from what I made yesterday, MS to right is too long.

So I'm posting my layout so that I can get some suggestions on how to fix these problems, and also to check for other problems that I haven't noticed.

The layout was based on the overview sprite; it should be pretty easy to see which areas I drew in.

Its small. Thats not a bad thing, its about the right size, and has a very good layout for a co_ map.

It's actually not that small. The part that I have done stretches from -3840,-3840 to 2304,1792 in VHE. I designed it to be an ns_ map, not a co_ map, but I'll consider making the conversion after it's complete.

kharaa should have to pass by the MS somewhat to get between the two furthest hives (top and bottom in yours). in yours they could avoid it fairly easily. it also seems as if your top and right hive are too close together.

Here's a possible reworking, although perhaps the bottom hive is too close now...

I think the first layout looks fine

Interesting layout. However, its connectivity is such that the problems you describe will arise unless the unmapped portion is heavily redesigned.

I can give you one suggestion that keeps the current layout but changes the east hive's south entrance. (See attachment). It streamlines the connection between the east and south hive making all hive2hive times more equal. The north hive will always be closer to marine spawn, unless you redesign its surroundings, moving it to north. However, that extends the north hive to south hive time even more. This suggestion isn't a big improvement really.

Because of these problems that are sort of hard-coded to the layout, I made a more radical suggestion that keeps everything you've mapped so far and changes the currently planned part of the layout radically. It uses the pieces of your planned layout as a base, but has them turned 90 degrees, moved around and so on. Hive2Hive times should be a bit more equal and north hive is further away from MS. Hive2MS times seem to have improved.

    The radical suggestion:

I'm gonna have to say that for the most part, I agree with Driftwood.

u could put a elevator with roof and door making the players wait to elevator up him.

-Driftwood-: Your suggestion has been the best for me so far. However, it still has a couple of problems. First, I'd like to see more branches from the upper exit from the MS. That makes it a pretty direct route to the upper hive. Also, the lower and right hives are too close. Going from the upper hive to the lower hive brings you too close to the right hive.

Still, I consider the layout you posted superior to the one I originally posted. These problems should also be somewhat easy to fix.

    Anybody else have any suggestions?
