<div class="IPBDescription">or what do you think it is...?</div> You may find it silly or irelevant, but I was just wondering... what exactly is a Rambo?
Is there any official definition of the term? Where? And what do *you* think a Rambo might be?

This question came to my mind after a disscussion in the Fontiersman Strategy Forum:

<a href='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/index.php?act=ST&f=20&t=46592' target='_blank'>Rambo101</a>

Well, I listed there some topics related (more or less) to this issue but if you want to read them, just clik on the link and go to the second page of the thread.

Otherwise, I'm curious to know what you personaly think a Rambo might be...
Or at least if you think that ramboing is a good thing or a bad thing...?

Edit: Screw my lazyness, here are the links I was talking about and some citations from some of these:

"Still, as I don't pretend to hold ultimate truth, I made a research (yeah, some people do use the search feature) and tryed to manage as much intell as possible on what a rambo is.
Here are some of the results:

<a href='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/index.php?act=ST&f=10&t=38666&hl=rambo' target='_blank'>You might be a rambo...</a>
First this one because it tries (somehow <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->) to summarise what a rambo might be.

<a href='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/index.php?act=ST&f=1&t=15353&hl=rambo' target='_blank'>Don't confuse Rambos and scouts</a>
This one is one of the oldest. It's title is explicit: Rambos and scouts are not pretty the same.

<a href='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/index.php?act=ST&f=20&t=16343&hl=rambo' target='_blank'>Rambo, to scold or praise...</a>
This one is pretty interesting as it tells about the cons and pros of being a rambo, somehow

<a href='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/index.php?act=ST&f=20&t=17722&hl=rambo' target='_blank'>Letter to rambos</a>
This one is good too, but describes best the ninja style rather than truly tells what a rambo is

<a href='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/index.php?act=ST&f=20&t=23922&hl=rambo' target='_blank'>use Rambos to your advantage...</a>

I love this one because of the definition Flatline[UTD] gave of what a rambo is:
<!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->OK, there's a difference between 'rambos' and 'veterans.'

Rambos go off, get killed, beg for equipment, hump the armory, ignore all your orders, and get killed again. They play NS like CS. They have no friends at school. They drive SUVs.

Veterans, on the other hand, work for the good of the team. The ladies love them. They will go off, ignore your orders, and hold their own if it's for the good of the team. The rest of the time, they will do what you ask. They play NS like NS was meant to be played - as a team. They drive fast sports cars and makes lots of money.

lol <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
Still, this has some ressemblances with what kltower4 said. So maybe he wasn't describing a "rambo" but much more a "veteran"...

<a href='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/index.php?act=ST&f=20&t=43292&hl=rambo' target='_blank'>The John Rambo Strategy... First Blood</a>
This is one of my favorite, even if it doesnt tell you what a rambo is, it will give you the Best... Strategy...Ever... For every one of you coms on the go in order to win you almost every games and make your teamates feel proud to be under your orders <!--emo&:0--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wow.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wow.gif'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

Still.. apparently, whatever the situation or the topic, a "rambo" seems to be something not very liked by the majority, or at least a "class" that some find useful to try to defend...

I'll end this post with this particular quote from Jay123:

<!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->If you don't do what you are asked but expect all the equipment you want from the commander, you might be a Rambo.

If you run to seemingly random locations attempting to kill each alien on the way and not providing any intel, you might be a Rambo.

<b>If your name is Sylvester Stallone, you are Rambo. </b>
<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

<!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->"

So at least we know what Jay123 and Flatline[UTD] thought about this, at least at the time they posted these (they may have changed their mind who knows) <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    To me, a rambo is someone who goes off on his own, and tries to frag every alien in sight.

    Well, maybe but what's interesting me is having your opinions on that point.
    The term "rambo" has a very particular conotation specifical to the NS Community (or at least it's in NS that I discovered first such an use for the name "rambo").
    What I want is to hear the word from this Community, so that is you, him/her everybody... <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    So that's why I can't just be satisfied of my own answer...

    And yes, Xzilen, The First Blood thing is quite a classic, but I couldn't resist the urge of recalling it to our good memories... <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

    I think the defining quality of a rambo is his relentless ignoring of orders AND an unhealthy facination with getting a high kill count. An individual's skill level does not make him any less of a rambo, nor does returning intel about what he saw on his privae little expepidtions. If the commander tells you to "rambo" it is no longer "ramboing". you are now a scout/harasser. IMHO rambo carries a negative connotation. Anyone can rambo, from Vet to n00b. Trying to take advantage of a rambo by tailoring your command style to suit a rambo is the wrong way to go. No one should "rambo". If you feel you have so much skill that you can take on the whole team, why not guard those marines trying to lock down a hive rather than running around alone "fragz0rzing teh aleeuns".

    This guy named rambo is in a tv program and just runs off by himself and does matrix type stuffs and kills everyone.
    Thats what rambos think they can do.

    A rambo is a stupid n00b who cries "comm, comm! Gimme HA, HMG and WELDER". If he gets them, he goes 'ramboing' alone and dies. If he doesn't get them... then he goes 'ramboing' alone and dies. And then everybody hates him and nobody will be his friend anymore.... <!--emo&::nerdy::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/nerd.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='nerd.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Rambo == A player who ignores orders,humps armories and enjoys knifing RTs that are heavily guarded by boht players and OCs. And don't forget the constant whining!

    Rambo != A player who solos when <b>given the order to do so</b>.This person == WINNAR!!11one

    I consider myself to be a rambo, but one that works for the team. Maybe rambo isn't the correct term for it though. One man army, or "super uber stealth ninja", as some might call it, is what I like. Sneak around the back, shoot them from behind, go on assassination missions, its great. Sure, you might be alone, but I like that. I don't like counting on anyone else other than people I can trust, and the few people I trust to get my back are people I know. Thats why I don't build things when I'm around with another person, I just can't trust them. I do work for the team, though. I usually work in conjuction with the comm, sneaking in various hives, providing distractions and whatnot.

    There is a difference between rambos. I'm not trying to say I'm some kind of NS god, most likely far from it, but its there.

    A rambo is a person who believes that he is a one-man army, and that the game is made solely for his and <i>only</i> his enjoyment (as in a single player game). Other players are merely obstacles in the rambo's path. He doesn't communicate, and he holds little to no value to the pleas of his team mates. Basically, rambos are extremely selfish players.

    Now I'm talking about people who play as a rambo <i>all</i> the time. Sometime it's fun being a rambo for one game, but not it it's your only playstyle.

    as well as i could put it

    a rambo is someone who thinks he knows the game as well as or better than the comm. so much, that he doesn't feel that its necessary to 'stick with the team' and feels that he will be able to win the game for the team by:

    a. killing everything
    b. making better decisions than the comm

    and, of course, this could go both ways (good rambo, bad rambo). i've found the most effective way to keep everyone on the same page is to be very explicit (with directions, not language) as a commander and constantly provide orders and tasks to everyone. most people 'rambo' when their comm fails to acknowledge them and they get bored.

    rambo is the ultimate survivalist killing machine that always does the right thing, regardless of what others think or what hes told. Rambo is not a "CS" player. He is not an armory humper. he is not a whiner.

    rambo is godly. he will always pull through in times of peril. he will always survive the worst.

    rambo is no wuss. <!--emo&::asrifle::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/asrifle.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='asrifle.gif'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&::nerdy::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/nerd.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='nerd.gif'><!--endemo-->
