Fade Upgrade Assesment

What do you use?
I just wanted to know what your guys go on your fade if you are able to get both mc/dc upgrades.

Choices:
1) Adren + Cara
2) Adren + Regen
3) Celerity + Cara
4) Celerity + Regen

I ushally have gotten #4, but i'm trying out #2/#1 at the moment because without adren you cant use a blink/insta-gib swipe as you dont gain energy fast enough. Some other clanners that I have talked to prefer #1 because cara allows you to better fight shottys in game although with regen you can use a blink+heal tactic to run someones ammo out then attack them (Not as good vs shottys I would guess) Plus it allows you to stay in the front lines.

Any and all commentary along with your # will be helpful.

I left out redemption/silence because I already know their use's in battle which are required in different situations then normal play.

If we have one hive then I may chose #4, but if we have two then I feel that metabolise will do so I will chose #3. If we have 3 hives then i'll chose #1, as I'll need the adrenaline for acid rockets.

Number one, mostly because it allows blinking to a safe hole as well as laying down acid rocket spam. Carapace always a bonus against people with decent aim...

Number 1) if im playing serious.

If im fooling around and having fun i get silence+regen.

SO much confusion blinking in, taking out 2, and then blinking out, as if you were never there.

I dunno! It all seems really good to me. I've tried all the upgrades together, but I think #3 is more common for me. At two hives I just use metabolize to cover the damage. I want carapace because I get greedy in battle and want to stick around longer for more frags.

If I want to save resources I get redemption + whatever. If I want to hunt down small marine clusters I get regen + celerity (#4) for maximum hit and run. Celerity will help close the rest of the distance if my blink is off and also take less damage in the process if I kill faster. I usually try to blink for most movement during battle. It really throws off their aim so while they miss you regen during battle. Though if there are too many marines they just spam bullets and you're dead anyway.

I don't really use adrenaline. Don't really run out of it. Only when I'm metabolizing.

If your not running out of energy as fade you probably arnt blinking enough. (without adren)

    #3.

Carapace is something I pretty much always get, since Fades can't take that much damage and need all the help they can get. I get celerity because, believe it or not, it helps you blink. The best way to blink around isn't to hold down the button with blink. Look up slightly, jump and tap the fire button and you'll get launched down the hall. With celerity, you blink faster and farther. It also helps when you're not blinking.

I usually take #2. Regen is the only D upgrade I ever take. I might experiment more with celerity fades, but I really like the unlimited swipe that adren gives you for destroying structures.

Despite not being one of the choices: silence and regen. It's like getting a free kill. At least one marine will usually fall before they notice I'm there.

Otherwise, celerity generally seems excessive, so I go with adren. If you get good with close quarters blinking and can change weapons quickly, you don't really need celerity.

Regen is great in the early game, but you'll still be murdered by upgraded or shotty/hmg marines. You can't regen if you're dead. Besides, it's not like you can't just blink your way into a hive to heal.

    Silence / Carapace

Silent assassin in middle game baby! Two hive fades get kills by the barrelful. Silent fades work alone and break up squads and expansion. Res node under attack? Im the man for the job.

Hit and run fades, never work, I've seen hit and run fades, they hit and then run, but usually without a kill.

The best one for me, I'd say is celerity and regen. At least you can hang about to make sure you get a kill, while still managing to dodge gunfire effectively without flying uncontrollably everywhere.

Another factor is if a lerk is with you. if he got umbra, get regen and then you can stay fighting indefinatly against turrets and lmgs and shotguns. Youll heal alot faster than youll die, although stay on your toes cause if your not in umbra and shotgunners come twords you, get the hell out of there. Same goes with the onos. Get Regen if umbra near by. I've seen a single onos or fade rip gigantic bases apart with only regen and a lerk(lerk usually me). I don't ever fade or onos but what i've seen as lerk i can give you that tip.

fades dont need regen, they have it in one of their weapons

for 2.0 I perfer cara + adreniline(who dosnt use adreniline with the bigger forms )

You should be able to take out a lone shotty easily with adren/regen. It takes about 3 shotgun blasts to kill an adren/regen Fade if the guy shooting is the regular aim and hits you with the full blast all the time. It's pretty good against HMG's, also.

Cara+Celerity for me as fade. It just suits my style. I have found with celerity, I dont need to use as much energy blinking, so therefore it isn't really an issue for metabolize..

but what about energy used when attacking. adren can make you slash nonstop, good for buildings

Nope. I blink all the time without adrenaline. The trick is to launch yourself with a tap or bhop out of it.

EDIT: Though in heavy battle situations it's always better to have adrenaline since none of the other upgrades help in those situations.

Regen is really handy, but it unfortunately makes Metabolism (nearly) useless. I noticed that if you use Metabolism, you have to wait the entire delay between regen pumps all over again, even if you were about ready to pump. In other words, you can't use Metabolise AND regen at the same time. If you use Metabolism, you won't regen at all while using it.

Ive noticed there 2 types of faders regen and metab because u cant use both it either one those that like to stay close ot combat with regen and those that rounda corner then get cut to shreds by a lonly LMG while they do since i was that lonely lmg that done it to a few good fades

Yeah I noticed that today. I feel so stupid hahah but it's still useful in that you don't need to spend time metabolising, just run out and come back without stalling. The healing should stack IMHO or else it's kinda a waste.

I prefer cara over regen just for the fact that you can get a few extra swipes in before you have to run and heal. My survivability generally increases when I get cara. I could go either way on the adrenaline or celerity. I suppose celerity is good if you're not skillful with blink, and adrenaline is better when you've mastered blink. Could also depend on the map, if you're fighting in long open areas, take adrenaline for the blink so you can close the gap quickly, or take celerity if you're in close quarters the whole game, which eliminates the need to blink.

So for me #1 or #3.

Well acually if you time it right suposedly you can use matabalize and regen at same time and get the use out of both gaining 42 hits points per click back. I dont fade, so i dont konw exactly how to do that.
  • sejsej Join Date: 2003-01-19 Member: 12488Members
Zerg, if you dont have adrenalyn, you wont be blinking a lot with fade.

I know how to blink, but with groups of marines , ur going to want to blink to every target to try to survive.

And that means. blink slash, blink slash, blink slash, blink slash, blink slash.

Very hard to sustain that sort of attack without adren.
  • Trojan2Trojan2 Join Date: 2003-01-14 Member: 12290Members
For heavy combat work I use Cara+Adren. Like most of the rest of you I Perfer to be able to blink and then swipe. Cara allows me to survive more then 2 shot gun blasts and allows me to fight for more then 2 seconds aginst upgraded marines who know how to shoot.

Most of time I go for celerity + cara. Regen is not that useful for fades anymore, since they can gain health without it. Plus, with celerity it's no trouble to rush back to the hive and heal there.
  • NuclearCoreMeltdownNuclearCoreMeltdown Join Date: 2003-03-15 Member: 14524Members, Constellation
I usualy go adrenaline + carapace, although i should probibly do celerity cause fades are slow without it. I gotta work on my blink and hit skills.
  • NicatorNicator Join Date: 2002-12-15 Member: 10829Members
adren+cara mostly, although I'll occasionalyl take celerity.
  • SoulSkorpionSoulSkorpion Join Date: 2002-04-12 Member: 423Members
Carapace and celerity. There's really no need for regeneration because of metabolise; I'd rather have the extra protection in a fight and be able to heal myself.

I use celerity because the more speed you have in combat the more effective you are. I don't just blink in, slash, and blink out - I blink in, stay for a while, and only evacuate when I'm near death. You need speed to dodge; if you don't dodge (*bat* *bat* *bat* *bat* *bat*) then I suppose adrenaline would be fine.
