I think just about anyone would be happy to have admin, I mean who here WOULD NOT lIKE admin?

First of all I dont know why so many people ask to be an admin, being admin is not fun. Its like being the president, again its not fun. Its like a job, you have to take time out of playing the game to catch lamers/cheaters etc.
If you want to become an admin somehwere, the only real way to get admin is to regular a server that you like, then dont ask for admin, instead play like a normal player, become dedicated to the community, then when the head admin sees that you may be a good admin, you'll get admin.

Any real server admin isnt gonna just give anyone who asks admin, you have to earn it.

Personnally, I would not like admin because like voogru said it is not fun. Anyone with admin experience probably wouldn't mind giving it up for a while. It is not just because of the lamers and cheaters you have to deal with; you have to technically be a model player on that server, meaning you have to know, follow, and enforce all the rules. Also, chances are if your an admin on an organized server, your email address will be posted somewhere so players can contact you (generally this is only the head admins, but if a server is large enough, it might have all admins' contact info). If you ban someone, chances are they will have gotten banned for some act of lameness, which means they will probably spam your email for awhile.

I'll admit that I've actually turned into a bit of a perfectionistic **** after I've admin on IRC and HL. It is a lot better not being one than it is being one.

I have 5 servers running various games, and let me tell you - being an admin is not what it's cracked up to be.

If you have the choice - play the game, leave the admining to someone else

You could really consider running a community a second job. Most of the time I am updating something, or some other project, instead of getting some NS time in.

    But I do enjoy it.

While administrating a server can be hard work, it's all worth it if the end result is a good, clean, fun, and challenging server for everyone to enjoy. There have been times in which I've been tempted to just say "Ya know what, it's not worth it," but I always stick with it and it makes a server the best it can be.

If you want to admin a server, I would suggest first looking into what the server operator wants from you, rules of conduct, etc. Also, look into cheating methods and their prevention to get a better understanding of "hax", so that you can do your job properly. Being admin says that if something pops up, you may have to give you your hard-earned 100 res to spectate someone or you may die typing in an admin command. That's just the way it is.

To say it basically, admin may sound fun but you must be prepared, cool, and ready to put your responsibilities before the game.

I was an admin in my old CS clan. I quit though, their morals stunk, and the leader recruited terrible terrible people. Admin isnt all cracked up as you think it is, and it is a job, like Voogru said. I enjoyed making sure our server was hack free though, and you get that nice, warm, fuzzy feeling inside when you catch a hacker. Oh the memories.
