Tournament Winning Rule Set

need help - all read
Im running a dbl elimination tournament (www.NSPlayer.com) that is starting next week. I was hoping that 2.0 would be balanced, but well its not, aliens are the most favourable race. Now since its a double elimination tournament there can only be awinner and loser, so no draws can happen.

What I need help with is getting a rule set, that is fair and will make the end result a winner or a loser.

Options in Mind

- Fastest time wins (most should know this)
- 3 rounds (if it becomes a draw with the first 2 rounds, the winner of the first round, goes random and a third round is played)
- The 'Scores' when u press tab (I have no idea if there even/fair now, could someone fill me in with that?)

If u have any better suggestions, please reply, or suggest which one is better to use.

Dont' time it - otherwise, the aliens who win the first matfch jsut need to super-turret as marines: They'd lose, but it would take forever.

    How I would do it:

Everyone is evenly split off, and plays 2 matches with their opponent.
Anyone who is beat twice (as Frontiersman and Kharaa) is gone.

Repeat as necessary. There is no way to balance a 'good Kharaa victory' with a 'good Marine victory'.

When we do tournaments, we all play each other, then everyone says who the best team they played against was, most votes wins. Of course, we are all friends. ^_^

hmm.. 2 matchs ? that would take up to 2-3 hours.. not something ppl can do =]

i read this in the CAL forum

Deciding which team is the winner needs to be broken down into individual rounds. To Win a Round (in order of greater precedence):
Option #1 - Kill all of the opposing team's players and destroy their ability to respawn within the timelimit.
Option #2 - Accumulate more resources than the opposing team within the timelimit.Deciding which team is the winner of a match is somewhat more complicated than deciding the winner of a round.

To Win a Match (in order of greater precedence):
    1. Should one team mange to win both rounds, then they will be declared the winners.
    2. Should both teams manage to win a round via Option #1, then the team which was able to accomplish this quickest will be declared the winner of the match.
    3. Should one team manage to win a round via Option #1 and the other team manages to win a round via Option #2, then the team which won a round via Option #1 will be declared the winner of the match.
    4. Should both teams manage to win a round via Option #2, then the team which accumulated the greatest amount of resources from both rounds combined will be declared the winner of the match.

i was wondering how do u count the res?

Res is displayed in the Tourneymode score board, if I'm not mistaken.

Ya, simple as this, total team score. 2 rounds each, one as each side, add up total team score and it comes out fair. Ties will be rare if you're going after exact score. This will also encourage teams to play a good game and not win by a rush. My 1 worry is turret whoring, perhaps a restriction? like 10 turrets per zone? Anyways, that is defiently the best way to do it.

yea, seems like a good idea, but limiting 10 turrets.. kinda hard to inforce and no need in my opinion

My only fear with that setup would be teams camping out the end of the game to let their score go up, or after winning the first round f4'ing in the second to end the round before the other team could get any points or even just playing intentionally poorly so the other team rapes them fast and they loose the round but win the match. And it's hard to say "Oh, you played intentionally poorly! You loose!", tis a really exploitable system.

If you didn't guess, I'm not much for trusting people to use common sense, tis often a letdown
