My Favorite Custom Maps

Just to let people know what I like
Seeing as how this is the mapping forum and we have a link to all the maps updated constanly, I decided to recommend a few for people to try/dl.

NS_Karnak------ Amazing map, so many cool things to do on it, with a good balance of resource nozzle placement. The cyrogenic hive is absolutely kickass as well.

NS_Greian--- Just an all around well structured map, defintely worth the time to get and play.

NS_Rampage--- I actually had a full server while playing this map the other night! It has a nice layout and has many places where marines can go if they work together and boost each other, which encourages team work

NS_Atomicmass---- Good map, though I miss the lifter that was taken out after version 21

Trane07- The little mess hall just totally rocks, the rest of the map shines as well.

Colony- I can't wait for the final build, its going to find heavy rotation on my server

Hydrosity- I think we all know this map

Napo- Not a bad map either, even if the maker preaches opposite political views than I do

Nirvana- Another map that I think many of us know, well put together, and for the most part, balanced.

Any other serious maps anybody would like to add to this list?

What do people think of Europa?

Europa has some serious siege range issues, making it unplayable.

Despite the problems I rather liked Europa. Plaguebearer has made a new version - he just needs to find time to get it tested and then release it.

I'd add Lost to that list (even though it's going into 2.0, that's not out yet so it's still technically a custom map). Lovely map.

out of all the ones i've played hydrosity and rampage are my favorites. Lost is another good one.... I really like the marine start area. The rest of the list there is a lot of maps I haven't played... and can't find now that mayberry is merging and I can't find a direct link to their downloads page if it's even up.

lets take the cycle of our server for example (advertising ):

ns_11th_hr18: style is ok while the map seems to be jetpacker heaven! the hives are sowhat marine rushable... and did I mention that jetpacker have a good chance to win? but I think this map will rise with the 2.0 cause of the changed gameplay.
ns_atomicmass27: simple, small... I dont like the hives that are ALL easy to siege. although we had some cool matches as aliens AND WON! but style is top.
ns_cilrais_1229: big... huge. looks pretty cool but had been tested only in 2 games.
ns_colony_v1: wOOt! (nay, remember: mess0rn!!! ) one of the best looking maps ever. but playing as alien might be no fun, jp also rule here. I cant get the vents where you cant easily get in as jp but its too hard for skulks. hives cant be sieged from in the vents. nah! puh! some work needed..
ns_europa: small and furios! we played without nearly no siege (exept one at the start that sieged one hive) and the fun was incredible! ns at its best! although we had all three hives we fought nearly one hour (with onos!!!) to crush the marines base.
ns_fenris: not played yet. a map where you need 10 minutes to find the comchair shouldnt be official...
ns_greian: looks good but its too tiny. marines can easily occupie two hives at the beginning when there are too few players.
ns_hydrosity: big... huge... OMG yesterday played two hours and every minute we found a new passage. its pretty funny when you write "the onos will rush your base down marines!" to create panic... and then you are not able to find their base XD too huge for my taste. but the hives are very nice
ns_leigonxiii: never thought a "combined affort map" could be this good. style is ok but... THE HIVES ARE SOWHAT CRAPPPY! you can siege every hive FROM A DISTANCE!!! no chance to get your hive back if its lost...
ns_lost: if its lost this map deserves the official state although there had been some evil bugs. hives are to wide, the marinestart is the horror of all marinestarts in the ns world! no chance to get out if onos get in but overall lookings are good, even some really futuristic looking ones
    ns_mystic_rc3: not played yet
    ns_nirvana: not played yet
ns_rampage: looks great. plays great. great map. I like the snowtheme "outside" the map.

Sadly, you're probably the only person in the entire world who actually has the map on their hard drive. Meanwhile, crappy "fun" maps infest servers everywhere. But I'm not bitter. Wait, yes I am.

thats why mappers map. I like it when the "Wow!"s and "Cool!"s have more weight than the "hm..."s and "I dont... (whatever!)"s.
Im a fair person and judge the maps how they appear to me ingame visualy and like the maps are played.
    add:
ns_fenris: first thought it was a crap map. the marinestart wins the award for the worst marinestart design besides siege there are some ladders in the map that "beam" players and sometimes you fall to death for trying to climb it (me with ha+grenadelauncher+welder, 100hp and full armor) and thats annoying. but on the other side its one of the most complex maps ever played. although the map is huge, you never lose orientation (not like hydrosity) cause of some recognizeable architecture (bad english ). and I like the music samples in the map! lovely! on of the more scary maps. gameplay is quite good, only one hive is too open, the others hard to conquer. this is really a funny map. funmap really fits here
I try to give mappers decent feedback when they play their maps on the server. thats why we rent it. after playing custommaps for a while playing standart maps get TERRIBLE boring!!!

I love napo.... I especially loved the upgrade it got when the double node got taken out, and the sheer darkness got taken away... I think by the time the NS team releases another downloadable patches this map could easily be of the quality needed. An excellent no frills map, like the current 1.04 version of eclipse. Definatly one of the most playable customs I've seen.
