Question About Matrix

Mr_FreakMr_Freak Join Date: 2003-04-10 Member: 15378Members

No, not the Reloaded :)
Ok, Iam talking about the first Matrix.
I have been wondering about that scene, when Neo and Trinity goes to save Morpheus from agents.
Why do they explode that bomb in the elevator?? What is the purpose of that?

I have seen Matrix several times, but I dont still understand that part of the movie.

Because, if you're gonna storm a heavily fortified building, you want to do it with style.

It's a remaining part of an earlier draft of the scene: In the beginning, the lobby was supposed to be full of people. Neo and Trinity created as much noise as possible there - amounting in the bomb - to distract from their true attack, which did not come from below, but above.

Its likely to be another way of covering your rear. If you
know you're going to be followed or chased you might
as well cut off as many routes as possible.
Thats just my theory, probably wrong but hey-ho

I had that thought too, but... A high security building like that really should have more emergency routes. I mean, if you would just disable the elevator and you're done? Heh... Doesn't sound like high-security to me. Anyway, there was the chopper and everything, no fear.

Yeah eh that actually is kinda weird how they just decid to blow up the lobby.

Maybe they wanted to like wanted to trick the agents into thinking the lobby blew up along with trinity and neo. So... they could surprise the agents... with that helecopter!

Or they probably wanted to like turn on the water sprinkler system to annoy the agents or wake up morphieous cuz he was drugged or something.

i've got some problems in general with that whole scene, from where the bomb blows up to where morpheus jumps out.

Bomb = no real purpose. Just to annoy the agents with the sprinkler system, and probably kill about 10 innocent people outside the building at the time, not to mention risking the firefighter's lives when they come to tackle the blaze.

When fighting the soldiers on the roof, why did only one agent go there? If all three of them (or even two of them) had gone there, they would have totally pwned Neo and his OGC h@x.

When Neo unloads the chaingun into the room, you can clearly see the bullets leading right up to morpheus, and seriously, he would have hit him.

Smith is teh wall hax0rz with shooting thru teh wall. omg teh cheats

Morpheus gets shot in the ankle, which stops him from running, but doesn't bother him at all when he drops 10 feet and lands on his feet. He is also holding his hands/wrists when he gets to the phone.

And oh yeah, does anyone else think it would top the whole scene off if Cheesey Lift Music was playing when Trinity and Neo get in?
  • MadCowMadCow Join Date: 2003-02-10 Member: 13398Members
I thought they blew up the lobby to stop hinder people moving throughout the building. Didn't they show a sign that said "Do not use elevator in case of fire"? I seem to remember that for some reason.

To disable use of enemies using the lift? Yes!

They shot the lift cable anyway. So even without the bomb, it wouldn't have done anything. Plus, how many people can you fit in a lift? about 7 - 8? I don't think they would care about 7 or 8 more people to kill. The agents don't need to use a lift, and Neo and Trinity never planned on being in the building for long anyway.

IMO Nemesis and Darkbolt101 theorys makes sense.
Yeah, maybe the reason was to distract agents or waking up the Morpheus.

Oh, and more thing what I noticed about that scene just before they blow up the elevator.
When Neo is running between those pillars and the soldiers shoots at him, those bullets only hit on those pillars.
None of them doesn't hit on the wall behind pillars.

Well if we assume that the bomb issue is discussed now(they had at least some sort of motive for it) could you explain to me why they didn't care about peoples lives? I thought about this during the movie and then forgot it but now I remembered it again from some dumb site

So why they didn't give a rats arse about those polices? They are humans as well and innocent too. Neo could have just whooped them unconcious instead of killing them or so. I don't get it

anyone in the system is a potential enemy. 'cos they might have throw a spaz and turn into an agent, innit.

But think of all the people in front of the building when the bomb went off. It's on a crowded street, it's gotta have killed some people. And when the helicopter crashed into the side of an office block.

and, in reloaded, when neo is flying, look behind him. See all those cars? yeah, he's dragging cars with him. Think of the people in those cars. And think of all the people who were hit by the flying cars. I'm starting to agree with the agents.

Oh yeah, and inside the matrix is a world just like the real world (or the OLD real world). Why do they want to be free, so they can hide in a town under the ground, with no real food, and terrified that giant robot killing machines are gonna come and get 'em? I think they just like showing off their leet fighting skills in the matrix.

Q: Why did only one agent go to the rooftop?
A: Because by the time they got their act together, only one guy was left alive to inhabit.

Q: Why kill all those people instead of knocking them out?
A: Probably because knocking them out leaves them open for agents to inhabit (and wake up).

    Q: Why the bomb?
A: I'm gonna say diversionary tactic.

Yes, but think of it this way. The people he is dragging behind him, bombing, and otherwise killing don't want to believe. If Neo succeeds in destroying the Matrix, they're all going to die anyway. There is no way to save them.

I know, it doesn't make it any better - I'm not advocating the death of millions. But regardless, if one cannot save them, and cannot tell them about the Matrix in time, what more can one do?

In the movie, everyone else but the main characters are portrayed mainly as cannon fodder. They're easily taken over by agents, who doom that person to death (since Neo's gonna kill that agent in no time). I just got the idea that Neo figured that every one of the regular folk were disposable.

Awwwwwww help the agents have gotten to him run for ya lives!!!!

Look its all about the ethics here, they choose to be free no matter the cost because they WANT to be free. They don't care as much about having luxuries, good clothing, warm tasty food, and nightmare free nights as they do about their freedom.

e/I forgot to ask this but I have a weird theory going around in my head and I'm not sure if it makes sense to others. But first, has any1 here seen The 13th floor as that movie kinda gave me my theory about the matrix reloaded. Anyways, u know when Neo stopped the sentinels in the *REAL* world, what if its a matrix within the matrix? If u saw the movie i mentioned above, you should understand where im coming from cause thats that movies whole story right there.

Lol, and please God don't let us start the Matrix within a matrix theory... i still have scars from the last battle of that. The most interesting theory i've heard is that when the smiths tried to get neo, they rubbed off a bit of code into him, which lets him control the sentinels.... best idea so far tbh

why morpheous trips from getting shot in the ankle but can walk and do other stuff immediately afterwards:

the main characters are the heroes. they have the "> than human" powers, one of which MUST be higher tolerance for wounds and such. Morpheous apparently CAN take a bullet, its just the sudden bioshock of getting hit by one is as abrupt as someone kicking your leg out from under you. The guy had no idea he was about to get hit in the leg.

and i think samwise covered the lobby bomb topic quite nicely.
