Gaming Partners

or just partners?
Maybe in off-topic but I guess it can do in here as well.
I was wondering if anyone besides me has the pleasure of having a partner that loves video games.
And, of course, not just video games: NATURAL SELECTION!
My girlfriend is a great player but is currently turned off by some bugs/exploits in 1.04 so she'll be making a full return in 1.1!
She loves lerking
So I was wondering if anybody else played with their spouse/partner/whatnot.
And if not, how do they handle you playing NS (as good players invest a LOT of time in it)?
Don't want to make this a social study but I was just wondering if there were more guys/girls like me (in this case guys) that get their readends kicked in games like UT2k3

Hmm a friend and I always play the same video games almost always at the same time. We've even made our own clan based on that fact. Team Net Arena, so it really doesn't matter what game it is.

We call eachother up and we ask whats the game of choice. If I don't have it, he gets it for me. (He always seems to be the one buying the new games)

Personally, while a girl who enjoys video games may sound like a gamer's dream, (and I do know several lovely young women who enjoy playing video games), I prefer to avoid dating girl gamers and instead just keep them as friends.

Why? Because as a gamer myself I know the addicting nature of them -- if I dated a gamer we'd just sit around and play games all the time! Boring!

I don't know about you guys but I date girls for affection, intimacy, and companionship. I particularly like cuddling. Not something I can do if we're both playing games all the time! So I reserve games for my friends. I like to go dancing, theatre, venues, basically OUT when I'm with a girl I like.

I've been so unlucky with friends and NS. Some of my friends love NS but the ones that do have computers so bad they can't play it. One of my best friends will only play NS once Ollj's pokémon pack comes out. Another will only play it when 1.1 when comes out. Another one of my friends likes NS, has a good computer but doesn't have internet! AAAAAA!!!!

Luckily I recently got a second good computer in my house so now I can play NS with a friend in my house, but my old one is now my dads work computer so I can only play it with a friend as long as my dad doesn't have to use the computer.

Nah. I don't do "partners". I can't stand people for very long. I play to escape reality, and finding out that I'm playing with someone I know would ruin the experience for me.

Avtomat, I'm glad you find it funny and I gave you a laugh.

However, if you thought twice about what I had written, you'd probably realize that I wouldn't be trying to impress girls with what I write in this forum, because girls reading this forum are probably gamers, and I don't date gamers, for the reasons I stated in the second sentence.

Maybe you just read the last sentence, I don't know.

See what you did to Catpoker. You do realize that one of the biggest reasons guys play games like this is that we have no social life. Just rub our faces in it why don't ya.

I remember I once convinced my sister to play Sven Co-op with me through our lan one time, it was.... interesting.

She sucked. Well, what do you expect? The most exiting game she's ever played is the sims.

Don't remind me that I need to find a girl. That's why I was playing NS ****. Now I'll have to visit my shrink AGAIN. *sigh*
  • RhuadinRhuadin Join Date: 2003-06-05 Member: 17023Members
I'm sorry about the reminder. But you know, the attitude I've found is that most girls, when they're free, will agree to at least see a guy who's presentable (i.e. takes care of their appearance), confident, and nice for the sake of being nice (*NOT* nice so they can use it as a leverage -- that's manipulation). If you're not confident, fake it. Any girl who won't at least agree to give you a chance probably isn't worth your time anyway.

The ability to make someone laugh is good, but often all you need is the ability to maintain a conversation. The easy way to do that is to just take keywords that they say and throw them back at them in the form of a question. For example, if she says, 'I'm making a necklace out of shells I got on the beach from Costa Rica.' you can say, 'Wow! When were you in Costa Rica?' (Unless, of course, you *live* in Costa Rica, which I don't )

So don't play video games to escape reality! That's like... drinking alcohol to escape reality. I do both for fun alone. Go out and meet people! You won't regret it in the long run.

My girlfriend doesn't like to play violent games (but she'll very happily watch me playing them), but we can spend hours playing fun 2-player games together. Things like Bust-a Move and Bubble Bobble can keep us entertained for hours on end.

I have a female clanmate whose boy is in a rival DoD clan though. Not sure why I brought that up, but hey.

Hahah OMG. Back when I was with Jamie she couldn't stand when I played video games around her. My network really sucks most of the time, so occasionally I'd get up in the morning (when ping is actually good, during off-peak hours) and try to squeeze in a game of WC3 while she was still sleeping. Usually what happens is she'll wake up and this scenario will ensue:

Me, busily being addicted to WC3 (You can't just quit a game if you're playing on a ladder! :-p

Her: Good morning. I'm going to go take a shower.

    Me: Okay.

    (10 minutes pass)
    (She's still standing around)

Me: I thought you were going to take a shower?

Her: Don't you need to take a shower?

Me: Well, why don't you go ahead, and I'll shower after you.

Her: Look, if I wanted to shower alone, I'd just go home and shower.

Me: Uh... (In the middle of beating down someone's base) In a few minutes?

    Her: Fine, I'm leaving!

    Me: Alright, alright! *quits*

My random team partner, over gamechat: F***ing teammate! Why do they always leave in the middle of a game?

    .
    .
    .

    Well now you know.

But anyway, the point of this post was -- How could someone happily watch you play violent video games? I like em but I don't like watching them either, it's boring. :-p

I dunno - I like watching people play games too. Partly it's to take in my brother's PS2's swanky graphics admittedly, but also it's fun to watch him on things like CS, where I can say things like "doy - you should have seen that guy" and "jeez that was stupid" whenever he kets killed.

But then again, I also like watching my girlfriend playing things like Mah Jongg, so I'm probably just weird.

    ---

Oh, and in Rhuadin's defence - I much prefer doing something more fun and sociable than playing games (yes, online games are sociable, but they're not spending-time-with-a-loved-one sociable) with my girlfriend. Even if it's just something simple like finding a bar or coffee house to hang out in.

My girlfriend hates all things computer related.. games, irc, whatever. She can't stand the fact that it takes attention away from her, which is fair enough I guess. She'll do almost anything to get me away from the box, although usually its limited to nagging and whinging, which can be really annoying when I'm fully immersed in a game of NS (or any other game really). When we first started going out 3 years ago I'd never think of putting the PC in front of spending time with her, but after living together for 2 years that's all changed. Now it's a challenge to find a few hours in which I can game uninterrupted
