<div class="IPBDescription">Interesting new concept for hl mods.</div> <b><a href='http://t2k.neotech.cc/ns/tuts/tools/tools.shtml' target='_blank'>DOWNLOAD THE MODEL TRANSPARENCY DLLS HERE!</a></b>

Right now I'm waiting for Delarosa to finish downloading dod 1.0 so he can send me the new dlls but in the meantime look at this

<a href='http://collective.valve-erc.com/index.php?doc=1043360861-70912800' target='_blank'>http://collective.valve-erc.com/index.php?...360861-70912800</a>

Basically, dod 1.0 comes with updated dlls that allow transparency in half-life models. This means if your half-life is updated with the new dlls you can see transparent models in any mod. Once I get the new dlls I'll mess around with the effect and post an example for you guys. This should mean we can add things like the glass panel on the AvP welder!

Also, you have to have the new compiler. Just look in the modeling section of their forums, and also be sure to read the tutorials. And I don't know if it can have semi-transparency, its just used for poly reduction, by not having to accually make holes in the models themselves.

Semi-transparency works in-game. It's called Additive. The color white shows up completely opaque, black is completely transparent. You can make a glass window by setting it somewhere in the middle, even include smudges.

Alright, here is an example I made. Yes I will release this welder, just gimme a little bit to perfect the window and make the ha version. I had some steam going off of it to show that sprites are rendered through the window too.

It seems that the DoD 1.0 installer updates sw.dll and hw.dll to new versions (the rendering part of the HL engine), so its true, the new models with individual texture render modes can be used in any mod.

I guess the next HL update, or CS 1.6, will also include these new dlls for the people who dont play DoD.

Wonderful!! Anyone that has installed DoD v1.0 can have transparency in their models! Im gonna post this on a mappingwebsite (which I am staffmember on (crap english))

Once I get my server comp back I'll host the two new dll files needed to see transparency in models.

The doom model and others would greatly benifit from this. You can now see the faces and not just the glass, oo the sc marines would look much kewler now, even with teh glass slided up a little more then half way it will look cool.

Well, here's something I whipped up with my <a href='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/index.php?act=ST&f=19&t=27571&hl=heavy' target='_blank'>HA visor hack </a>(which I neither finished nor released) showing that it's not perfect by any means.

so only if i have dod1.0 installed i see transparency and if not i dont?
Then i see blue parts and no transparens-alpha?
  • JaegerJaeger Join Date: 2002-11-28 Member: 10202Members
You don't HAVE to have DoD 1.0 installed.

You <b>do</b> need the updated hw.dll and sw.dll (that go in your Half-Life folder) that come with it.

this is a useful addition to the ns modelling community, im sure the dod dev team didnt plan this coincidental use (maybe they did though?) but it does seem to apply to all hl mods. this should lead to some interesting models.

If someone could post the two DLLs, attached to a post, that'd be fabulous. (:

Incidentally, what happens if you *don't* have the DLLs? How does the transparency show up - solid?

So, reading thru that tutorial, its not possible to make a half opaque red screen? as it will only be half opaque?

Wee I got it to work.
I was playing around with it and made this 3D landscape:
2 polygons and one bitmap per layer.
    Looks much better in 3d.
