Medals And Awards

What to give to star players?
Ok...now that I'm thinking about it. I'm trying to decide no a good list of medals...things of valor that I can hand out after games to my star marines. I can then label what my marines got...and what battle it was in. One map being added up repeaditly till map cycle.

There is the normal list I can use from the U.S. however I am thinking something more futuristic and different would work. Don't need anything to long really but, if any of you guys have some suggestions let me know will you. if this works hopefully people will be...a little more receptive to follow orders.

would the rines be able to keep the awards they got from game to game?

Really, the best way to reward a marine that built/guarded/patrolled your base and RTs well is to give him the first JP and shotgun/HMG.

Kazyras... very true. you should reward your good rines by giving them the best. you should also treat the vets the same way.. they work hard. so just give them good stuff and pay attention to them and give verbal praise

Cs has ranks right??? They attach the rank no to the name of the player/ won id... Same thing could happ'n here? Cept because it's a army some sorta cool stripes system could work. It provides no upgrades or anything like that. But just gives the game a bit of longnitivity, something to work to. ***Don't flame just cos i mentioned cs***

    Well, how about....

New textures are available (badges or some sort of markings on the aliens)
For every "kill" (or maybe a good kill:death ratio), you get a "point" that is stored, but is invisible. After so many "points" are gained, the arm/chest part of your model texture area is replaced with a newer "kills" badge/mark.

it wouldnt be a big change file size, it's just a very small image.

However, it wouldn't work server to server, since there is no global tracking system that goes along with NS programming.

One...yes marines would keep the tags/medals from game to game. They can write thier own list up however after game I would tell them what they recieved and what battle/conflict...etc it was. changing them a little so they don't all seem the same.

Two. Yes, normally I drop gear, heavy kits, JP's, etc. To my good Veterans and Sargents out of hand. However if i had a way like this to immediatly tell which Marines where Sargents in my ranks quickly...or if someone else thought they were good...then I could equip them as need be as well. Usually I can remember the names of all of my All Stars.

Three...if possible new skins to show rank would be very cool. However that would be a request that I'm not sure I wanna be known as asking. Chuckles. Would be intersting though...add a little more to the game if you saw a Fade with 3 large claw marks on it's chest indicating it had single handidly killed 3 comms by itself. Or a marine with a white line on his helmet and two arm badges marking him as an officer.

The model changes would definately be a cool idea but only for marines. Aliens already have the scoreboard where you can tell which one is whupping up the most on the Frontiersman. Where the commander can has to individually evaluate each soldier. Some sort of option for minor promotions that change your model the next time you die would be really nice. In fact, with the new hotgroup ideas, you could blend that with the idea of promotions, and give promoted non-coms extra menu communication options that would talk to those in their hotgroup.

As to what a medal would look like, that's more of a design issue, I don't know, a few interlaced triangles of different colors set around each other.

However, ranking based on kills would encourage some marines to go Rambo and trying kill the most aliens for their own rankings rather than focusing on teamwork. It is the reason why NS doesn't show marine kills.

I am personally extremely pleased that kills dont show for marines.

A model badge wouldnt really mess anything up, since it's barely noticable, and I doubt someone good enough to actually get a badge would be running around saying " OO OO!! LOOK MY BADGE IS BIGGER " or something. A badge should be for a very good player

Ranking probably would be displayed on the scores page rather than a visual on a skin (it would be a pain for the developers as well). The rank would be given by a comm because he feels like it. However, a comm may not have the time nor need to do so in the first place and everyone will be begging as well. Which is why, ultimately, ranks won't be a big impact in a game as NS.

Yeah that would be cool, but the problem is experienced alien players would just assassinate the veteran players first and then could confidently clean up the less-skilled players.

It's good that the marines are all alike, you don't know who your fighting until someone dies or you catch a glimpse of their name by laying the X-hair over them, which is unlikly at close range.

Actually I don't usually recognize players with large kill counts unless I already know it's because they are skilled veterans. It helps to have a couple good rambo's I can send off to harass an area or distract aliens by assualting the hive for a bit. However usually my all stars are marines that followed my orders the most and the best. I promote based on that alone. I agree that having no score for marines is a plus. For aliens it's amusing but it does tend to improve teamwork a little amoung marines. My hope would be that since I can promote some marines to higher ranks...or give then cool shiny trinkets...more would be motivated to follow orders and work better with other Marines. If only for the bragging rights.

I am getting into the habit of calling out to everyone who my All Star Marine was and the follow up...as well as the most useless..if there was one. That one that kept asking for an HMG...then died in 10 seconds.
