Clan Stacking

<div class="IPBDescription">Bit of a rant, but it's common</div> I like to play on public servers. There, I said it <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo--> A lot of the time they offer good, clean gameplay and you get to know some regulars. However, far too often a clan comes along that is above the cut for the average pub server. They know how to work together as a team, they are highly efficient, they are very good players. Now these players are often great to have along, but suddenly you'll join a game and *sigh* the whole clan has joined one side.
Now against that unless you have some kind of magical perfect pub team you're not going to win. You might as well press F4 from the beginning because you're not going to win. A well orgainised and skilled clan team knows what it's doing and communication between them is second nature.
So I say to the good to average clans out there, PLEASE don't unbalance the server! It's just not fun winning so easily, if you want a good game split yourselves up and play each other off! I love having good players on my team but NOT to the detriment of the other team!

    2 points:

    1) Sometimes clans do like to hop in a pub and play together, especially if they have no server of their own. Often it's nothing to do with "pwning teh n00bs", they just want to play alongside each other.

    2) It's not always about winning. Many of the best games of NS I've had were ones where I was on the losing team.

I can kind of see where you're coming from though, but being in a clan myself (even one as glorioulsy inept as EC <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->) and playing almost exclusively on our server, I don't really see any of it.

What can I say? The cases I see of this occuring are when a clan all joins one side for the express purpose of winning. I can understand people wanting to play together but that's what clan wars are for! I know winning isn't everything, it's just annoying when from the start of the game you know you're going to lose. You might as well start turtleing your spawn and wait for the inevitable fades/hmg jpers. I just can't see how it can be fun for a good clan team to play against inferiour opposition. Surely more fun would be had playing your own teammates?

If you go up against a stacked group of good clan members, remember this: you're getting better and they're getting worse.

[edit] In response to the previous post, it is more enjoyable sharing a winning/losing experience with a friend you know.

Switching to the winning side doesn't always enchance your gaming experience... If you're in a clan the games will get more like a routine than just a random, enjoyable game (been there, done that)

I don't deny that myself, and the other public players, gain valuable experiance. It's just annoying that the outcome of the game is a forgone conclusion. Yes, you can have fun losing. But it does get a bit old charging into fully upgraded hmgs 10 times <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

Exactly. Because once the team is stacked, the clan is just going through the motions; they're not going to lose. Good orgainisation and a higher individual skill level means gg opposing team <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo--> Boring.

Actually, I always respect the odd one or two clan members who go awol, and join the underdog team.

Temporary clans are a good laugh. One time, a clan joined our server, so we decided to start a temporary clan by placing some random initials before our names, we were rubbish but it was funny.

There should be a server variable which is like forcerandom....

I would have to disagree, anyone who plays serious in pub games should be shot anyway.

Yeah, it's a bit like that on my favourite servers, with our resident buttock-prodders being |DoW|. They're usually pretty good about evening the teams, though, and we have a few skilled clanless regulars from time to time (like me <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->)

I play seriously in pubs, and I usually AM shot. Fortunately, I'm good enough to dodge.

It's not always to the advantage of the clan though. In one case I've played, the clan went marine, while all others were aliens. But most of us were pretty good alien players, and combined with the hivesight and increase in teamwork as we saw we were fighting against a clan (it's a "us against them" thing), made us pretty effective. In fact, we won that game. Of course, if a clan comes to own a newbie server, the results are fairly predictable. You need an experienced mob of pub players to have a good fight in such a situation.

That's the problem: pubs often don't have this. It IS happening more and more though so it does demonstrate a trend of learning <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

The reason may clan stack is simple,

The nubbins on the other team are **** me off with their total in ability to work together and listen/take orders, I am trying something, but no1 tries with me.

With my clan m8s They listen and cooperate

Also the fact that I am good friends with them and like to play with them cos we actually talk 1/2 the time and makes jokes <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

EDIT : Yes, we almost always win when we do this, but it is SO much more fun playing with friends thatn with random ppl who insult you <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->

I disagree. I always play to win, because if I don't I feel like I'm letting my team down and being disrespectful to my opponents. I always hate it when people don't put up the best fight they can, because to me thats like saying that me and my team aren't worth the effort of fighting hard. Thats not to say in the last minute of a game I won't pull out my knife and go for a fade or go suiskulk, but thats only when IP's and chair are down or the gorge and hive are both dead. I'm not in a clan, I just like a hard fought game.

In response to clan stacking, I don't mind it. Lots of times the clan people are too stupid to be much of a threat, even if they are all together. And not everyone with a tag is clan. My buddies and I all have a tag, but we picked it to make fun of the whole caln system. We don't have practices, don't scrimage, and don't do anything else clans do. We just like laughing about making clans hate their lives. Not all clans, because some are genuinely good players and decent people. But few things warm my heart more than eating a "elite"-speaking, incompetent jetpack/mine ****. Nothing wrong with jp's or mines, but so few people use them effectively.

I always play to win too, as long as I can physically and emotionally. No clan stacking in my server though... because it's not a huge community and we all know each other. Me and my friends formed a clan to play togther. When we go into pubs since we perfre to play togther (being that were friends and all) we tend to clan stack. Personally I dont see what the big deal is

I have no gripe against clan stacking. If a bunch of friends want to play together and work well with each other.. who are we to stop them?

Besides.. they can just take off their clan tags and you wouldn't know the difference.

I've had more than a few opportunities to pull together a newbie marine team against a clan stacked alien team.

    1. Motion Tracking
    2. Very explicit directions.
    3. a LOT of patience.

These soldiers will perform like cripples compared to you, but just pair them up with someone, let them know that you're watching them with a few ammopacks, and they usually get into the groove of things.

They're not going to know to back away from the door after they open them or to check their roofs, so even if they have motrack, be a little more explicit when you see NSPlayer moving into triad. Give them easy-to-guard positions, don't use skill-heavy tactics like jp/weaponx, and tell them to crouch when they shoot.

Not only do they become more effective soldiers for you, but it's a far more welcome into a new game than "WTH NOOB OMG IM GONNA LOSE"

Well, it's kind of hard to stack since you can't make a difference of more than one between the teams. It's usually the coincidence that all the noobs want to go marine/alien and the skillful players end up having to choose the opposite teams.

Bleh I've been going random more often.

There's nothing like clanstacking both teams, however.
Played a game where I was gorge, and had a clanmate command. Due to the inexperience of the majority of most of the players, the game lasted 3 hours with aliens coming back from a 2 hive lockdown, simply because my buddy left after the 1st hour when he could not get any cooperation from his marines.
He came back an hour later and could only join the alien team. The funniest thing was to hear the inflection in his voice when he said "This game's still going on?"

The whole clan stacking things is a wash , usually ppl in the clan are reg's on the server anyways.......................so u going to hop on a server and ask all the regulars to split up , when in fact , you are playing on a team thats most likely regulars trying there damndest to get into the clan?

Clans use pub time to be a more cohesive unit , pubbers just play. I would rather play on a team that doesnt leave u scratching your head wondering 'WTH is that jack-**** doing?'.

So 1 of 2 things can happen , either u get in a clan or start ur own server.
