Old pic for reference to the change:

Alright, the debris looks nice and random, and the electric jolts are a nice touch. The part of that room away from the debris looks too barren, though, and I don't really like the contrast. And in the future save yourself (and people with 56k modems) some trouble and only post one or two shots if it's just going to be basically the same thing.

looking quite realistic. but the hole in the ceiling seems MUCH too small for that kind of dropship to have crashed through.

Looks great! Much better than the pervious, but yeah you do post a lot of pictures 'bout the same thing.

Only warning guys. Constructive criticism is fine, but swearing and name calling is not tolerated. If you post on the boards, expect to take some heat - otherwise, keep your work out of the public eye.

Wow hanz chill, man!
Before monsE nukes you and they close down this topic!
He was just bringin the fact that for people who have a 56k modem this page take a long time to load under your attention, maybe you have to zip your screens? Besides you can map, i can map ####, tried wc today and er well only thing i can make is a cube, can you tell me how you make a globe or cilinder in wc?

*hugs his cable modem* Don't worry my little coaxy friend, the natives won't hurt you.

I know how it is to use 56k, and big pics can be a pain in ye' ol arse and to me some of those screensies do look a little the same. Yet still, if Hanx wants to post them he can go right ahead in my book. Anyone with a 56k can always choose not to check out his topic, right? You don't have to post here, or anywhere for that matter. Unless when you want to be dedicated I guess.

Anyway, enough bs. Love the new crash man! Much more clearer what it actually is. Wasn't that clear to me the first time.

One quick note - if you are on 56K and get choked by picture downloads in posts, you have the option to block them:

1. Open your forum Control Panel
2. Open Account Options
3. Under Board Display Settings:

3A. Set Do you wish to view members signatures when reading threads? to NO

3B. Set Do you wish to view images in posts, such as smilies and posted images? NO

3C. Set Do you wish to view members avatars when reading threads? NO

Doing these things will definitely speed your browsing experience if you are not a broadband user. Maybe Molec or Spyder could toss some of this stuff into the forum FAQ that they so lovingly maintain.

That went in the General Forum FAQ on the first day of the boards. I'm shocked, MonsE. Shocked I tell you.

Well, it kinda did. There really weren't any details on exactly how to do it, just where to go look. I believe in the lowest common denominator theory of PC users.

i think it looks quite good.
perhaps some additional debris or scorched looking textures around the impact site may add to the realism factor.

Alright Hanz, don't worry about it. I didn't get to see what you wrote, as it was nuked when I got here, but maybe that for the better. All I was really saying was that, for instance, the only difference between the first and second shots is the electricity. Now I, for one, would be able to tell by the first shot that its a somewhat random set of beams. I wasn't saying that your work was bad, though. That was certainly never my intention.

How bout some particle smoke? Maybe even fire?

Also, that room needs a serious overhaul in the lighting quality, and the ship itself needs some better textures.

For lighting, you could remove most of the artificial lights (since they wouldn't likely be operation having a ship fly through the building) ... and have a light_environment coming from the skybox. A few dim point lights might be needed to augment the light from the sky. But it definitely needs to be a lot darker and more contrasty in that room.

As for the textures, they need to look like they were made specifically for that ship, and need to be detailed, gritty, and charred by impact energy, fire, and smoke.

Also, you need to rework the rear end of that ship... it looks entirely too simplistic. Could use some rocket boosters, stabilizers, fins, a tail, etc...

my suggestion is to remove that "lightning" strike that is emitted from the broken light on the roof. it seems unrealistic that a small broken light would spew forth lightning bolts... perhaps sparks instead.

you should definately add some smoke coming out of that thing. everything else looks pretty good.
• HanzGruberHanzGruber Join Date: 2002-01-25 Member: 47Members
blahman, surprisingly, I brightened the images so you COULD see properly in the screenshot. point lights are a waste of entities and I do have an environment light. As for the dropship textures, it's not my prefab - I'm just trying to be faithful to what the NS forum goers prefab was originally. There is particle smoke coming from the ship, I guess it wasn't captured effectively in that pic..

Anything else you would like blahman? foot warmers? ring the bell if you need anything...
• BlahmanBlahman Join Date: 2002-01-25 Member: 85Members, NS1 Playtester
I dont see the smoke, I don't see any darker spots or conrast in lighting (unrelated to brightness), and just because its a prefab doesn't mean you have to use it.

And yeah, I could use some foot warmers... it's cold as hell in here.

Get me some as well, midnight in Colorado is sub-zero.
It would look pretty tight if there was a blueish lighting coming in, like in movies when the lights are out and they use that oh-so-fake blue light. Well, except it wouldn't be "fake" on your map.
BTW, know it's been said but nice job!
