Short story by douglas hackey...read it
For those of you unaware, my father typed up this story. he really does have the time and the imagination, and the resources to think of this. Plus...I fear this has the possibility of being far to true. Please sit down and read this...and try and make sure everyone else you know does as well. if nothing else the goal is to get people thinking. Current world events are moving, not really in speed...but direction. Personally I think people are far to stupid for this not to happen. I'm babbleng...read the bloody story...think for yourself...please posts thoughts here.

When reading stories like this one, one realizes just how effective the terrorists of the 9/11 attacks where (please do not attempt to derive any opinion from this, I care for the victims of 9/11 like I care for the victims of any kind of violence, no matter what the reason behind it is.)

Well written, but I think it's a very extreme case. Tell your dad not worry too much... Not worrying is not automatically stupid.

chuckles...I'm more afraid he's right that this could happen then I think he's worried to much. I'm going to try and get him down here so he can post on this and reply. His whole thinking behind doing this is just to raise awareness of the possiblity and create discussions...so, i guess this does belong in here...whoops.. : )

Nice to see that throughtout this chaos two of the "Big 5" nations did nothing or were not even mentioned apart from the idea that Western Europe got totally and utter smashed.

[That would be France and the United Kingdom incase you didn't know, and in case you were wondering the "Big 5" are the United States, China, Russia, France, and the United Kingdom]

    Anyway I am alright
    I live next to this!

I did like the story though and to be fair it did send shivers down my spine. I recommend reading with haunting classical music playing in the background (not Barber's Adagio for Strings its been so over used its not even funny.)

Oh wow, I just read through the whole thing and... well, what else can I say but I had always realized this was a fight that had to be fought, I just had never carried it out to such a detailed and incredible conclusion. Right now this is fiction, but that hasn't stoped alot of what is fact today by being fiction in the past. The story lends itself such inevitability through its title "What will be", but I would really want a story which has some hope. I refuse to go down with out a fight against such possibilities, as inevitable as they may seem. Can your dad offer a story where our North American civilization of USA/Canada coming out on top at all?

he is waiting for his confirmatation right now so he can post in this forums. my father that is. I don't know, I know he wrote this with the idea that this is what he see's could happen based on current world events. I agree that I sure as hell wouldn't go down without a fight...even if I was one man army. You'll have to wait till he gets here though. I'm sure he would consider another story though, with an alternate point of view or ending...or expand on this perhapes...one never knows.

I'm particularly interested in what made him believe that the Arabs would go beyond terrorism and just kill everyone...

Er, did you read the whole story? It was laid out pretty clear that the muslim fanatic characters thought that with most of North America and Europe out of the picture and in chaos, it would be just the chance they would need to establish a new Arabic Empire where everyone was muslim and thus only worshiped what they consider to be the one true God, Allah.

Yes, I read that. But my question remains. If you think they'd really do something as inhumane as that on such a large scale then your opinion them is clear. Terrorism is one thing, but genocide...

Extremist Muslim (Muslim, not Arab... there is a difference) groups call America the "Great Satan" and hold all American citizens responsible for every one of the US's real or percieved intrusions or what-have-you into the various Islamic countries... it only takes a small group of fanatically dedicated people to wreak mass havoc.

that's an excellent point lad. Sadly it's just to all real. so it goes I suppose...just have to hope. To bad people in the mid east almost all consider us truly evil...and most of us don't even know where the mid east (most americans, least before 9/11) and most don't care what happens as long as they leave us alone. Go figure.

It was based on reading a lot of books about the Middle East and Islam since 9/11. I do not subscribe to the view that all Muslims are evil or that all of them are out to kill us. I do accept, however, that a significant number of very well equipped, educated, capable and extremely well financed Islamists have a very clear agenda: destroy the infidels. I just took things out to their logical conclusion along that path, without assuming that since I'm a Westerner and an American, my society has some manifest destiny to dominate, thrive or even survive.

My primary goal was to wake up a slumbering America to the reality that WMDs are going to be here soon and to get them to start realizing that there are other, very powerful, civilizations and countries that have a very different world view and agenda than we do.

I've posted some further comments at: www.hackneys.com/wwb
