NO, but big game server company sais yes
http://www.gaminghost.com/index.php?content=dedicated

All servers come with 3 IP addresses and their own port-ranges for games.

- AMD XP 1700 Processor
- 512 MB Memory
- 40 GB IDE Drive
- 384 Kbps up/down dedicated line (recommended for clans requiring 3 16 man servers)
- Webhosting with 100 MB space
- Pricing: $225.00/mo. - $175 one-time setup

From gaminghost.com

Could a 384/384 connection really run that many 16 person servers, or is this somesort of typo, I e-mailed them with no response.

Huh, wtf do you mean, my question is is it possible?

I don't think so. at least not for un-laggy servers. Besides you could go to www.rackshack.net and get a P4 2Ghz, with 1GB of ram for $150 a month. (That is with tax.) You get the 512MB one for $129 (Without tax). There you have access to a 10MB connection from your server (I think).

    384 / 8 = 48KB/s

When I played CS, I had my rates turned up and was tranferring 4KB/6KB. So there is 10.

You'd get 5 players if you used "high bandwidth" aka "commercial hosting" settings. You'd get 8 if you used "I'm running off my cablemodem with 384kbps upstream" settings, or 12 if you used the "I want to run a bigboy server but I'm stuck behind my tiny cablemodem" settings.

I'm not sure how NS stacks up, but it can't be THAT much different. Figure accordingly.

Any horror storries about unitedcolo, I got a dedicated CS server there right now, it's been up for around 10 days, I like them, but how can gaminghost.com lie about that many players on that little speed. Damn, I got 3 Mbps, and I won't even dare use more then half of it.

A friend's CS clan is "sponsored" by gaminghost. Without going into detail, I would definately recommend against them. What they do to them just isn't right.

Also, an old tribemember got a Tribes2 gaminghost server. It was a nightmare and ended up ditching it a month later.

i had a partial T1 at that exact same speed before i got my 1 meg up and down it runs 1 12 person just fine using an amd 1800xp+ with 512 ddr 266. but if i went up to 14 it lagged out bad

so my answer would be shaaa right.. false advertising. maybe if they were all non ns you could get midranged pings like 200 on cable and dsl but thats not playable for me im used to 10 ping

You could run ONE 10-14 player server. There is no way in hell you'd get 48 players on at once.

The catch is that the page doesn't specify which games, which imho makes it misleading advertising.
