I second that. It is an excellent beginning to a backstory of first alien encounter. I am eagerly awaiting more. If you simply don't have the time, I am sure there are some decent writers out here that would jump at the chance to add in their writings instead.

The largest problem with writing from the aliens side is the characterization, really. I mean, how do you develope a character for a race that cannot relate to humans? Not to mention if you factor the hive mind in there... Its simply not possable to write a good story (IMO, if anyone cares to prove me wrong, I would be really interested in reading it.) from the perspective of the hive, with the multitude of aliens that are battling the marines at the same time. I too would like a good alien oriented story, and if I can figure a way to make it slide into its square peg, then I might have a go at writing one.

Yeah, I have a particular compulsion for stories (of whichever medium) that I sometimes just want to know what happens. (Sometimes even if I don't like the writing itself very much--but this is not the case with Sanji.) This is the same compulsion (and a bit of speedreading) which resulted in 300 page/day rates on some books, as well as a 3-hour Serial Experiments Lain marathon recently on TechTV

    Please write more!

As for the alien side of it, I assume you fall back on the old standby... telling it in third person. Maybe with a little tip of the hat toward System Shock 2...

"Glaar was hungry. Hunger drove the sharp and frail little Glaar down caverns of extinguished lights. There were no desires behind those blank eyeskins, just a compulsive need to find the source of the intrustion and make it go away, an invisible sore on his hide that could not be healed away by The Many."

On that note, System Shock 2 was absolutely creepy--all the moreso because some younger members of the household had children's tunes going on at the time--and now I have a mental association between the music and lumbering worm-infested zombies.

Kharaa side story DOES exist. I read the first part and it was great, though that was before NS was released so I guess there are other parts

Now where was it...duh, can't remember but try searching the fan-fiction forum.

I spoke with Jeff (the author) about this less then a week ago, and the 2nd part is basically done. I'm not sure what he's waiting on, but he's a perfectionist so there's probably a word or two he wants to change. :)

ive read many of this kind of matierial, its really fascinating and interesting to read a story that the writer has wrote from another perspective.. very difficult to do, but if the author can pull it off.. its great

Aye GreyPaws, I have read the entire Ender saga, and enjoyed it quite a bit. Unfortionaly a parallel between the Buggers and the Kharaa isn't quite so easily drawn. The Bugger's intent was never to destroy, but the Kharaa arn't exactily the kind to stop for a spritzer and get all giggly with the marines. Plus, Card never wrote a battle from the Bugger perspective, and that perspective is the hard part.

And Draxo, if it can be pulled off, I have no doubt that it would be a good story. (It would have to be, heh.) But so far I have yet to read a story that does this to any degree of success. I'm just pointing out the major obsticles that one would face in writing from the Kharaa perspective. And keep in mind that the facn-fiction writers in this community are made up of amatures and quasi-perfesional writers, and published works will be a cut higher quality then what one could find here. (If any of our writers are reading this, please don't take offence, as there is none intended here.)

What I am trying to point out here is how difficult it is to write a good story from the Kharra perspective and stay true to their alienness at the same time. There are alot of factors to keep in mind, like making sure the kharaa don't become human minds in a twisted body.

If anyone wants to read some great characterizations of completely alien minds read some Asimov. The Gods Themselves especially. (although knowing a little nuclear chemistry helps in that one )
