Typing Status In Console

Am I the only one that knows this?
So many marines complain how they dont know their score, when If you type status in the console, you can at least get your frags. Cant tell # of deaths, but isnt frags the only reason your looking?
And its good for the comm to know whos doing best so he doesnt give the ha/hmg to the guy with 2 frags and make the guy with 23 sit around.

I've known about this for a while, but I don't use it too much. I find its just as easy to figure out who the 'good' people are by reading their chat messages or listening to their voice comms. I mean, the game isn't all about kills. Having a team that can't work together is just as bad as having a team that can't shoot straight.

I've noticed that just asking player's if they're capable of doing what you want seems to work. Most people seem willing to let the comm know their weaknesses. If a comm just asks, "hey dude, you know how to handle a shotty?" He'll often get an answer of, "sort of, but I'm not the best", or "Yeah, I can do it.", or "I've never used one before, but I'll try." I mean, sure, you'll get the idiots who'll say "I 0wNz0r ALL pplz WiTH sH0tty." But fortunately idiots seem to get kicked pretty quick in most games.

I knew this, but in NS, I don't care about my Score.

Judging solely on score isnt everything, but its still good. Of course I wont talk smack about the gorge with 2 kills. But I think its safe to say when someone is using a lerk and is 40/6, that he is doing fairly well.

compare a skulk on 0-7 thats been killin res towers/hive tfacts, to a skulk on 30-7 killing marines that just spawned

Sounds like their both doing their jobs.

--edit-- I think adding a destruction number next to your name would be cool, saying how much economic damage you've done to the other team.

The status command wont display your score on a Voogru server. =)

Auctually it will, the problem with fixing that to always show 0 is this, the teams score will always be 0 and i dont like that.

Score doesn't mean jack, I've seen a 3 and 20 guy go lerk and singlehandedly end a stalemate by umbra rushing the tf while all the 20 and 2 fades continued to stay back after the TF was down and spam acid artillery at marines.

Wow can I have your quote in my sig? Very well you brought that up. Poor gorges seemt o be treated like crap these days when they are the most important players on the team. I have to admit I am an excellent gorge but I usually end the round with 2/2 while the best skulker is like 27/2. And I feel crap for not being recognized.

Worse, I've been in games where I was gorging, busily capping RT's and building defenses, then, suddenly, "Team 2 Won The Game" I'm like "What the heck" and my team mates are like "Oh, we destroyed them" Well, thanks a lot team mates, you think I might have enjoyed letting out some babblers?
  • TeoHTeoH Join Date: 2002-12-30 Member: 11640Members
Yes i'm sure the marines would have loved to hang around contained in their base doing nothing for an extra 30 minutes, while you got 3 hives up so you could fire some babblers. If the game is won, get the hell on with it, kill thier IPs and start the next round. If you like to see all the pretty weapons you can do that offline.

i would say that im good with the gorg, heck i even killed a group of marines with it. but if you biuld your oc's in the right place then you can have the highest score. but not that it matters as score shows nothing. IMO i think there should only be team scores and no player score. thats my rant over.

Letting a game leach on while the other team is practically on it's knees is not fun.

There is no point, lust let the game end.

I'd judge their ability to kill other people based on frag count.

I can see it swinging eitherway.

Somm Comms who are low on res would probably like to give their investments to someone who can properly make use of the weapons while on the other side of the coin: it's usually a little too hectic to be able to sort everyone out.

    On that note:

Doesn't that mean it's just as hard to punish the rambos? I mean if they run off and get killed repeatedly with the stuff you give them. Then you've gotta mouse over each person to make sure the rambo doesn't get your stuff and waste it. That's what everyone keeps saying how you're supposed to punnish the rambos. Don't give them anything. How do you prevent that? If I wanted to be an **** it wouldn't be impossible. At all.

Actually this is a really good point here. Anyone wanna touch this?

I personally would like to see flags. Right click on a marine and select "attacker", "defender" and "rambo" just to be able to differentiate between your grunts at a quick glance.

That's why (as I rarely comm, and Gorge about 15% of the time) I always make a point of thanking our Gorges or Comm every game, unless they were spoons. As otherwise, people with nasty frag counts tend to get more recognition than they deserve, whilst most people (especially casual's) tend to be quite happy with anyone who has a high score making the point of pointing them out to the rest of the team.

Gorges - Unsung heros of the Kharaa. I love you guys.

I like the idea of the actual scoreboard showing the cost in RPs you've done to the other team, although with that many variables floating around it might slow things down, I don't know?

So how do you decide damage when you chew a tf down to 1%, die. And a teammate walks by, notices its almost gone and puts in the final nail? It sounds good, but I dont know how youd go about doing it.
