People Leaving 1.03 On Servers...

<div class="IPBDescription">What's the point?</div> A few of the servers that I <i>was</i> a regular at have decided not to install 1.04. (Not to be named here)

What's the point?

I feel there are too many changes for it to be ignored...and I'm not about to adapt to two different styles of gameplay for the same game. So, if a server decides not to switch, that's thier choice, but I'll stop playing there...

If you think pings are higher with 1.04, something is wrong with your server <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

exactly, with my 18 player linux server I went from having a personal 180 ping average (average including relatively low cpu intensive maps) down to around a 50-80.

It was higher when I first installed 1.04 but then I decided to reinstall the entity stripper and it worked wonders.

Note: I disabled my ping booster (linux) .. which helped my cpu performance by 15%-20% and only increased my ping by like 10-15 .. I still get sub 100 ping on everymap.. so it's all cool.

Disabling your pingbooster helped with CPU? I didn't think the pingbooster would be that dramatic on the CPU usage. Which level pingboosting did you use before you disabled it? Just curious.

I disabled all my pingboosting too (the HLDS boost .so and the built in -pingboost in HLDS). I figured I didn't need it any more in 1.04 and could use the CPU (I was right). I have now upped the maxplayers on my server, and pings are a little higher then they used to be, so I might try putting the ping boosters back on to see if they help again.

I never saw anything more than a slight cosmetic improvement from any of the pingboosters. IMHO, they're not worth the CPU.

I had it on setting 2 .. it was a big difference with 1.03 for me.. almost nothing with 1.04 (as far as the pings)

OT slightly. I'm using WinHL pingbooster in windows version of hlds, i think it has actually helped the performance and pings in everymap, specially ns_hera. Sometimes my server tries to 'crash' it just halts for a split second, but continues working after that and doesnt crash, wierd. It would have crashed all the way like it did couple of days ago but something is preventing it to happen.

"hlds.exe has caused an error and will be shutdown. Symbol <button_target>" ; was the last crash, maybe on saturday.

On topic: well i know one group of public server(s) who decided to leave one 1.03 just to compare the diffrences probably.

this is mostly a lack of server admins to update the servers. and stupid people who play on old servers.
reminds me on the sql worm this days. all caused by lack of patching sql servers

No, I had the head admins of said servers say they were leaving 1.03 on cause of more lag, phase gates, etc...

I stopped playing at one, so did everyone else who went there, and they guy switched it <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
