<div class="IPBDescription">too long?</div> Well, tomarrow is the one-month aniversary of "1.04 in testing". Personally I laugh at flayra for not instantly releasing a marine exploit fix, and instead waiting forever, but whatever floats his boat. I can still marine exploit in most servers, it is not a problem that has gone away.
Release the friggin patch. I thought this was a minor update.

<b> I should be nicer, or perhaps I won't be allowed to post here anymore.</b>

If you can code 1.04 more effectively than flayra with his time constraints .... feel free.....

a patch with bugs and a quick fix? or fewer bugs and more changes that takes a bit longer?

Have faith and patience please. NS took a long time to come to fruition, please don't ruin things by making people rush despite other commitments.

    ... minor changes?

Have you been reading the change logs on Joe's forums, or the main NS page? Or just trying to go for the flamebait of the year award?

    Right of course.

Same reason I am willing to not whinge too much about 1.10 for LoD.

But I cannot help but wonder if it would not have been prudent to release a 104 that addressed whatever concerns had been fixed to make life a little easier, then in another two weeks release a 105 with the rest of the changes.

After all the whole point of server side patches is as stopgaps that are easy to implement and distribute than massive client upgrades...why not fully exploit this?

Coz every time a 103 skulk team gets obliterated and sits waitng 90 or 120 seconds to respawn, or everytime a marine team rushes to processing on Hera and effectively wins the map in under 45 seconds, NS gets a grrr from someone. :<!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->

Cry me a river. The "skinhack" is easily preventable by server admins with a plugin available on the Servers and Server Ops forum. If you wish your local servers didn't have to worry about skinhacking, tell the admins to get the plugin. If by "I can still marine exploit in most servers," you're implying that you use this exploit yourself, then please go die somewhere. This is the only "quick fix" that 1.04 addresses, and can be fixed by other means already.
<!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->every time a 103 skulk team gets obliterated and sits waitng 90 or 120 seconds to respawn, or everytime a marine team rushes to processing on Hera and effectively wins the map in under 45 seconds, NS gets a grrr from someone.<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Fixing either of these is hardly a minor task; each is potentially balance-breaking if done incorrectly. Yes, I realize balance is already "broken" by these things, but breaking something in a new way is worse than not fixing it at all.

Flayra is planning on 1.04 being THE LAST server-side patch, the last supplement he releases until 1.1 arrives. As such, it not only needs to address all concerns - it needs to do so in a way that will not require any further adjustment until 1.1 is ready. He's taking the time to get it right NOW, instead of having to release patch after patch to fix every minor little thing that crops up.

What people fail to realize is that they don't pay for the mod or these updates, a fact OFTEN forgotten on these forums, and not only are you owed absolutly nothing by Flayra or any other dev guy, but you owe them several pints of whatever is the poison of their choise. (This is an english saying meaning you should buy them a drink, not that you should poisen them)

I am a member of <a href='http://forums.ukairsoft.net' target='_blank'>http://forums.ukairsoft.net</a> and one of the moderators left because instead of being thanked for their services, people kept flaming them for deleting stupid or obsene posts. This moderator was the funnyist the forum ever had and his loss was well felt and regretted by many "real" members. People who complain about free things obviously don't really care about them. Fine. But don't mess them up for the rest of us.

Rememer the old saying, "nothing in this life is free" This is true, but so is the saying, "never bite the hand that feeds"

Accept NS for what it is: a free mod (and a good one at that). If you don't want to do that, just don't play it.

I made a similar post a week ago. However, in that post nobody flamed me or told me to quit playing. The reason I was not flamed in that post was because I tried very hard to be constructive AND respectful. Two things that Fudo Style failed to do.

Fudo, I share the sentiment that your post is getting at. But NOT the way in which you presented your viewpoint. It is disruptive and ugly. "Laughing" at the person that has given you a wonderful game is very disrespectful.

You Sir, should be ashamed of yourself.

Yeah you heard me right. Its not my loss Flayra hasn't fixed this. Im loving it. I'm merely commenting it would be for the good of the community if he released it rather soon.

    LMAO!

Nice work Byclops! (Two-eyed... get it? ahh nevermind...)

Me thinks one point the 1.04 has taken so long as I assume Flay wants it to be the last serverside download, before 1.1. IOW, this one to fix the balance issues. I say it's receiving very good testing this way, so hopefully retards don't spam the board "ALIENS SUCK!" or "Marines nerfed too much!" I really like the changes so far and play the 1.04 servers whenever I can. There are a few out there to play on.

All in due time. All in due time.

Yeah, that Fudo guy ruined a nice game that was going on, using the marine skin exploit. His team still lost, but everyone ended up leaving soon after to stop hearing his mic spamming.

Remember that you can mute people.

in your autoexec.cfg file (a renamed text file in your ns directory that you can make if it's not there), paste:

    <!--c1--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>CODE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='CODE'><!--ec1-->alias fixmute "toggleeditps;bind mouse1 +attack"
    alias +scores "bind mouse1 fixmute;+showscores"
    alias -scores "bind mouse1 +attack;-showscores"
    bind tab +scores<!--c2--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--ec2-->

then rebind your scores button (the showscores button, tab usually) to +scores.

This assumes that your fire button is the left mouse button.

I found that i had to double-click people to mute them.

If the cursor stays on the screen, then press the scores button again.

I think you guys were a bit harsh here. He brings up valid criticisms but I think that banning him because one person said he did so-and-so is overboard.
  • SavantSavant Join Date: 2002-11-30 Member: 10289Members, NS1 Playtester, Contributor
Flayra, I'll vouch for what was said. He has played on many dervers and all he does is screw around. He'll hold down the mic key and play music. He'll abuse the skin exploit if possible. He'll do vote kicks of random people to prevent himself from being booted etc.

Trust me, if he was at all honest he would admit he is a huge pest when he is on the servers.

    Regards,

    Savant

Banning on hearsay is wrong, but in this case he did actually confess to using the skin exploit.

Okay I admit it. Ban me or whatnot - it wont help. Right now I'm torn between two sides. Im a chronic llama, but I want to see NS grow and mature and get rid of all llamaing so I wont be tempted.
