Lifepods in Below Zero?

From what I remember from the original game, there were more than the 9 lifepods found in-game that were ejected from the ship. Where do they go? It's totally possible to put lifepods in below zero, because it's never specified where in relation to the poles the crash site from the original game was.
It doesn't really have to have anything to do with the current story, but it could be a cool easter egg if it's placed way out of the way of the important story locations.

I mean these things did deploy from orbit, who's to say a few didn't land outside the craters edge and drifted there after 2 years?
