Tf And Phase Every 50 Feet: Overpowered?

Something I feel very passionately about
Think about it: You're a Skulk, you have been for at least an hour. All the marines have done all game is go to each resource node in turn and fortify it like Fort Knox. Everywhere you go there's 160 turrets guarding 10 TFs. While the marines are just sitting in their base humping the armory while you get splattered by sentries whenever you leave the hiveroom.

You're not supposed to -let- them take the res node, that's the whole point of it. Even so, Aliens can do the same thing, even better with def chambers.

    Blame Kitsune.

QUOTE (Kitsune @ Jan 20 2003, 01:04 PM)

Well, y'know how it is on the Internet. People aren't good at catching on to sarcasm or exaggeration if you don't have every line ending with So I try to be a little more obvious than usual on message boards to improve the chances that some trusting soul doesn't take me seriously. If I'd gone with your suggestion, next thing you know there'd be the 'TF and phase every 50 feet: overpowered?' post.

Thats your fault for letting them build like that.

Yes, and while they're busy hopping from node to node spending valuable resources and time at those nodes, your second hive should already be building and the resource towers that you do have up are a bit of an early warning when marines are in the area.

Then there should be someone who is going around actively patrolling all the resource nodes and parasiting and killing off any structure or marines there.

You need to factor time into the balance equation, the only way marines can really build up is if you let them build up. And while they're building up, you're getting the second hive up.

I think he means that after the marines have secured both hives they just build huge turret farms at every node, instead of just finishing it. I was in a game with that same problem.

its not a problem. George Carlin said it best

    "Its called **cking with people!"

they are just messing with you and drawing the game out for their own pleasure. Its like in SC when you have 3 expansions and are just building guardians/siege tanks/reavers and toying with your enemy.

when that happens in NS, there is only 1 thing you can do.....F4

I think he means that having the marines drag games for hours longer than they should. Sure, it is the alien team's fault that the marines hold two hives, but it is the marine team's fault for dragging the game on, instead of just getting a bunch of JP/HMG guys to go kill all enemies and the hive.

OK, I cannot in good conscience let this go on.

    Here's the sequence of events:

In the Whinge (mostly about Fades) thread, someone started talking about how upgrades own Fades.

I replied with how all that money on upgrades would prevent me from turret farming the entire map

Kitsune saw the sarcasm in my post, and decided to do one of his own.

I critiqued his sarcasm, and posted my own version.

Kitsune pointed out that most people can't understand sarcasm over the 'net, and it was quite possible for a sarcastic post to get taken literally by the vast majority of people. Specifically, there could be a rant up on General Discussion named "Tf And Phase Every 50 Feet: Overpowered?"

I thought this was hilarious, and for my and Kitsune's amusement decided to make just such a topic.

Then people started taking it seriously.

Trying to stop a huge debate over a fictitious topic, I decided to quote the post Kitsune had made about people not being able to 'get' sarcasm.

    People still took it seriously.

It's a joke people. All I was hoping for was Kitsune to still be on the boards, see the topic, we have a laugh, on of the Mods moves it to off-topic or deletes it. Whatever. Now you've gone and spoiled it all. <--- denotes sarcasm in that last sentence

edit: Kudos to Blank for having his tongue firmly in cheek.

Told you so. But at least I did get a lot of amusement out of it.

I'm the first to appreciate a good joke, but damn, with all the people REALLY complaining about crap, it's kinda hard to differentiate. *huggles*

Gee thanks Kitsune.... show up after I come clean.

Ya, it can be a little difficult, which is why I tried to head it off at the pass as soon as I realized people would take this seriously. Don't take it the wrong way, but I was trying not to burst out laughing when I read posts starting with "I think he means..."

It's like a post from around a week ago, I don't remember the author off the top of my head, but they wrote a great post complaining about marines having crosshairs, how it was unfair and unrealistic. I loved it. But then people started replying to the post, and were actually trying to debate it. That made me very sad.

Did a quick search and found the thread you're talking about. I can't believe I missed it.

    Nice work Teoh.
