My Subnautica is currently un-playable. Upon starting the game up it will take me to the title screen and show new game, load game, options, the news board, etc. However the background which is usually water is black. Upon starting a new game it will get to the point where it says "press any button to continue". Upon doing so the screen will just go black and nothing happens. I have to open task manager and force close the game. I am using the stable version, not experimental.
If I choose to load one of my two games it will go to the loading screen correctly and the game will start playing. However if I open my pause menu, the menu comes up but the game doesn't pause. I can hover my mouse over the menu options and they turn orange but when I click they won't do anything and I drown with the pause screen up. Upon further tinkering I found that I could swim away from the pause menu. It will stay in place where I opened it and I can swim towards it and away from it to the point it is no longer in sight. I also found that pressing F8 will not bring up the feedback menu.
I don't have any more information as a month ago I was playing the game with no issues, but when I started it up a week ago these issues started, so I have no idea what possibly could have triggered this issue. I have even completely uninstalled the game and deleted every file pertaining to subnuatica on my computer and re-installed the game, however the issue persists. I have uninstalled and re-installed 2 times with the issues persisting. I'm at my wits end here pulling out my hair because of this. I looked around on google and I can't find anyone else having any similar issues so it seems to be just me. I payed for this game and I can't play it, this needs to be looked into. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated but if Un-installing and re-installing didn't solve the issue I'm completely out of luck it seems.

Can you attempt a new game, and then upload the C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Subnautica\Subnautica_Data\output_log.txt ?

Are you by any chance having problems with audio on your system? I see the following at the end of your log:
FMOD Studio: Creating runtime system instance

    (Filename: C:/buildslave/unity/build/artifacts/generated/common/runtime/UnityEngineDebugBindings.gen.cpp Line: 42)

SystemNotInitializedException: FMOD Studio initialization failed : Calling initialize : ERR_OUTPUT_INIT : Error initializing output device.
    at FMODUnity.RuntimeManager.CheckInitResult (RESULT result, System.String cause) [0x00000] in :0
    at FMODUnity.RuntimeManager.Initialiase (Boolean forceNoNetwork) [0x00000] in :0
    at FMODUnity.RuntimeManager.get_Instance () [0x00000] in :0

I looked up what FMOD is:
FMOD Studio is an audio middleware solution and engine for games. Use the DAW inspired interface to create interactive music and sound effects.

So it seems that FMOD can't initialize the output device, which I'm guessing would be your sound device.

I ran across these solutions while searching:

    https://forum.unity3d.com/threads/fmod-failed-to-initialize-error-initializing-output-device-on-wp8-device.266117/
Somehow in audio settings DSPBuffer size was set to "Best Performance". Reverted it back to default and it solved the issue. Thanks.

This is possibly an issue with the AudioSrv service in Windows. Go to the TaskManager. Go to the Services tab. Find 'AudioSrv' in the list, right click and Restart it. Then restart Unity. Should fix it.

    search string used:

unity SystemNotInitializedException: FMOD Studio initialization failed

... Prevent play mode when FMOD fails. ...

Seems a recent checkin has a more stringent check for the loading process, but since you're playing on Stable this likely isn't going to help you play your game. Hope you get it resolved with what @0x6A7232 suggested! :(

Yeah, with the February update the issue seemed to be resolved. I played for a good two weeks but the issue has returned. Too bad there's no way to contact the devs directly about this issue. It's a pretty bad bug that prevents play all together. I can't believe no one else has this issue tho.

Updating my sound drivers did not help, but what I was able to do is to plug in a USB headphone set and that got it working. I also tried a Bluetooth headset and that worked as well. So did totally disabling the internal sound device driver. I tried several things to get my internal sound working with Subnautica, and could not - even though it worked fine for months before. Strange thing is that it still works fine in Subnautica-Zero, but not in the original Subnautica.
