[Audio] [Gameplay] Game-breaking glitches/bugs

PotatusPotatus Join Date: 2018-05-02 Member: 240476Members
Whenever I launch the game, the audio is completely silent. When a game is launched, the starting cutscene is just a black screen, and when skipped the game opens in lifepod 5, with no fires whatsoever and the fire extinguisher on the ground. Whenever anything is interacted with, nothing happens (Items, storage containers, etc...) and when opening the pause menu (Esc), the game becomes unresponsive. Any advice?

sounds like a corrupt version of the game. Uninstall and reinstall

So you have it on PC or Xbox?

Could be some issue with windows 10 if you have that. Or some files are missing.

Any idea as to what issue with windows 10 would cause it?

I don't really know, I have heard windows 10 likes to screw over a lot of games. It could also be possible that you are just having bad luck and the installation is bad or directx is broken.

You could try verifying the game files with Steam

Verified, no change. DirectX is working with other games, so I doubt that's it.

    Try reinstalling sound drivers.

It also seems like something some players have experienced after trying VR mode then switching back to normal screen, but I don't remember a fix for that.

I have a CTD when I try to use the terminal in the alien thermal plant where you get the blue tablet. I am not sure why but it happens every time I activate the console on the top.

The only time i have had an audio issue is when I use the console in the alien thermal plant. I get no sound for about 3 seconds and it CTD. As far as the game not having sound on start up sounds like a driver issue.

@Kevshep have you verified game files in steam? If so, the next step is to reinstall - make sure to restart your PC before uninstalling, so that it can properly remove all files.

I've been trying to get the game working for ages, it's a shame it isn't.

I am having the exact same issue. What I have noticed is that when i install the audio drivers downloaded from ASUS website (I got an B250F ASUS motherboard) the issue appears. If I then uninstall all the audio drivers and related stuff (like ASUS Sonar) then I install the Realtek HD Audio driver separately, Subnautica works just fine.

The downside is that with the regular Realtek drivers i got sound pops appearing every music I listen to whether it's youtube or spotify.

    [FIXED]
Oh have I got news for you all!

This issue is commonly called as the "FMOD Error" which happens with Unity engine for some reason. I used the following suggestion I found on a Unity forum and for me it worked!

"This is possibly an issue with the AudioSrv service in Windows. Go to the TaskManager. Go to the Services tab. Find 'AudioSrv' in the list, right click and Restart it."

Update: I have realized that when I have the Asus Sonar Radar 3 and Asus Sonic Studio 3 running in the background it doesn't work. When I close them it does work, however my hunch is that audiosrv restart is still required.

(I mean I already figured out uninstalling these softwares does the trick, but it turns out I just had to close them, not uninstall them. Also it seems to confirm that these softwares do something which Subnautica cannot handle.)

Look for installed audio softwares besides your driver and try disabling them.
