[Crash] Can't get into the game [Apr-2017 47282]

KidKoopaKidKoopa Join Date: 2017-04-28 Member: 230061Members
This game was fully playable for me back in January, but I've been having this problem for the past few versions now, and have been quietly hoping the next new update would solve it. But it never does.

My drivers are up-to-date, I've uninstalled and reinstalled the game, etc. etc. Yet everytime I try to actually start the game, it hangs at this part of the loading process for about one full second, and then closes itself.

Here's my DxDiag and Output Log:

Any and all help is appreciated. Thanks!

Your game seems to have started four times in one go. That's very unusual and I don't know why that would happen. Also something weird is that that it restarts every time when it starts loading assets from the game.

Well that would explain why Steam often says that Subnautica is playing even when it's not open. I wonder what's causing this.

Perhaps SN not terminating correctly, which would explain why sometimes i have files locked as in-use and not allowing upgrades (although that hasn't happened in a while). However, the files were supposedly locked by igfxEM.exe (something to do with the Intel graphics drivers).

So is this the type of thing we have to wait for a patch or update to fix?

Probably yes, but it might actually be a Unity bug, who knows. And only a few people get it, so... unless one of the UWE or Unity devs happen to reproduce it it probably won't get fixed. Or it could be a driver bug, in which case it would be up to the graphics card manufacturer to come up with a fix. You have made sure to update your drivers to the latest version, right? (not just Windows update; actually going to the manufacturer's site and updating)

    Crashfix? for me it did.

    Hi mates!
New user here, unable to open new topic, so i hijack this one since it has a similar problem on the same build.

I had the same, but often i got ingame for 1-4 mins before crashing, sometimes even locking up my PC completely... And i mean COMPLETELY. Never had a freeze so bad, even the ATX-RESET-Button didnt trigger anymore. Holy moly!
Of course almost always it was just a crash to desktop, a few times a bluescreen and once this complete and utter lockup.

The crash reports are often a access violation in Subnautica.exe, but sometimes in nvwgf2umx.dll and in d3d11.dll which made me thinking... Of course i had the newest GeForce installed... But in some other boards i read especially for nvwgf2umx.dll that thos may be because of a not updated dll in the Driver-update. This DLL seems to be responsible for a lot of crashes in GTA4 and others... It seems to be a DX10 compatibility-DLL.
A few suggest to use a good driver remover like the one from http://www.guru3d.com/files-details/display-driver-uninstaller-download.html and remove the driver completely (in savemode) and then REINSTALL the driver so the DLL in question gets updated.
Ahwell... Did that, what can it hurt...

Oh boy! It didnt hurt at all and now... Tadaaaa! No more crashes! Played over 2h and no crash whatsoever. Before, 3mins were a good time before crashing.

    For references:
    Windows 10 64b
    Game: April 2017 47282
Driver: GeForce 382.53 - WHQL force-removed and reinstalled

Sorry to bump an old topic, but I FINALLY got my display drivers up-to-date. My Windows is also up-to-date, and I updated Subnautica to the latest version, aaaaand ... I still can't get past "loading essentials." And I see other people have had this problem since I last checked in.

Here's my latest DxDiag and Output Log.

Are you on the original version of Windows 10? (Before Anniversary Edition and Creator's Update)
  • KidKoopaKidKoopa Join Date: 2017-04-28 Member: 230061Members
My PC's About says my Windows edition is "Windows 10 Home", so I'm guessing it is the original, yes. It also says the version is "1607" and the OS build is "14393.1358", if that helps.

You have the Anniversary Update. Now, Subnautica is upgrading to using Unity 5.6 instead of Unity 5.4.4, so I'd hang on until the next update hits, and then try again, as, AFAIK, they'll be on Unity 5.6 then.

Awesome! Thanks for the input! I'll check back in once Subnautica updates.

Are you still on the April build (#47282) shown in your screencap? Because the game has updated quite a few more times than that. Is Steam not updating Subnautica for you?
  • KidKoopaKidKoopa Join Date: 2017-04-28 Member: 230061Members
No, Steam does update it whenever an update comes out. It's on June-2017 50032 build now.
