Creepiest part of Subnautica

Out of curiosity, what do you find to be the creepiest thing in Subnautica?

For me, the crabsquids just make my skin crawl. Blood kelp doesn't do good things for my nerves, either.

Anyone else?

The lack of water defense systems! I have this inherent urge inside of me, where I need to have control over water. So this open ocean stuff just creeps me the F out :D oh and sudden drops into the abyss or rumbling noises/water jet from holes in the ocean floor...

Also, if they ever add a whirlpool of murderwater, I am steering the heck clear from that biome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

EEP, imagine randomly appearing whirpools, depending on currents. WTF why am I giving ideas to them devpeeps \o/

Outside of the shallows, EVERYTHING! No, seriously. The only game that I've ever actually been a little scared while playing, and I've played A LOT of games. Also an avid horror movie watcher. Yet, Subnautica is the first and only game to ever tap into my real world feelings, so to speak.

But, to refine it down to the point of the post... looking out into the dark abyss, and the odd muffled sounds that come from it. *shivers*

Warpers. I honestly cannot bring myself to go to the grand reef (where I once was jumpscared in a wreck) or anywhere else I have seen one unless it is midday and I'm feeling particularly brave or impatient.

Those dang Bleeders/Biters grabbing hold of your arm outta nowhere.

Even though I hear their scratchy call nearby, I always jump when one attaches itself to me.

That's Bleeder, not Biter. Biters just take a chomp and leave (red fish that say "H-H-H-H!"), Bleeders attach to your arm (purple bulbous sack with tentacles that go around your arm)

    I stand corrected...

Either way, they are a bitch.

Accidentally falling into the void in a exo suit or reaching the crash depth in the void in a cyclops, there is no way to escape and slowly you will be torn apart as the game glitches

Fortunately that one's easy to avoid.

I also find the Bliters in the Blood Kelp quite creepy with that laugh thing they do before they bite you.

every time i enter the lost river! i really like this biome... i hope they will push the ghost leviathan furter to the back of the game. so i can enjoy this biome a little bit longer. if they add it i will stay in the "not so" safe shallows forever!

edit: i also wet my pants every time i go out with the prawn in the ILZ.... knowing that HE is there and entering the lava castle fast. since i saw the sea dragon clipping through the lava castle i also am scared inside...

The edges of the map are terrifying to me there infested with those leviathan reapers and that creepy music and the dark void of doom

The most terrifying part for me is the thought of unconsciously crossing the edges of the world and be lost in the emptiness. This is one of the main reasons I despise losing sight of the seabed. The sound effects emitted from the blood crawlers in the blood kelp also manage to greatly disturb me. Since I'm going at it, let me add that I also always get really anxious when engaging the hull area of the Aurora, due to the combination of Leviathan screams echoing in the distance, the highly uninviting shaking of the Aurora and the unpleasant fact that I lose sight of the seabed. :#

Edit: Just read some more comments in the thread and I got another thing that creeps me out: The water around the Floater Island - I always beach my Seamoth when I'm there. Also falling in the inner water pools of the island while climbing or falling from the Aurora when climbing it's hull (happened to me once, I exited the game ._. )

There's only one thing that creeps me out about the ocean, and that's the fact that if you swim above deep water, there could be new, undiscovered species miles below you and you would have no way of knowing.

    So I'd say the void.

The Mesmer creeps me out more than any other, even if its attacks aren't that dangerous

Don't know how you accidentally do that...

Agreed completely. For something so beautiful, the ocean can be a merciless killer, and you might never see what gets you. That's the part about deep water that freaks me out, too - something could be a hundred, a thousand, ten thousand feet beneath you, something humans know nothing about, and something which would regard you in the same way we look at a Wheat Thin.

The ocean is completely upside-down for we humans. On land, we're the top of the pecking order, the apex of apex predators. In the ocean? We're minnows. I think Jurassic World said it best: "'Monster' is a relative term. To a canary, a cat is a monster. We're just used to being the cat."

For us, the land makes sense. We can see for miles. Underwater? No such thing. The order of a terrestrial existence for we land animals becomes the chaos of the ocean, while for the predators of that domain, all is normal. "Normal is an illusion. What is normal for the spider is chaos for the fly." In the deep water, kiddies...we're the flies. And it freaks me out.

For me it has to be the Blood Kelp zones. It's been mentioned before but the Blighters and the Blood Crawlers are super creepy... Even if they are remodels of existing creatures, they are terrifying to look at. Then there are the pasty dead-white tendrils that bleed "blood oil" from nowhere... How (and why) does it do that??

But for me, it's when you're in certain parts of the biome that really creep me out. You're exploring an area with the Exosuit, and suddenly you hear off in the distance a faint rrrooooooaaaarrr... It doesn't sound like a Reaper, but it's loud enough to echo underwater to you. You stop to investigate, and it stops... only to start again when you move. Is it tracking your movements? What makes it worse is that you never meet that creature...

And then for no reason at all, this song starts to play occasionally while you're going through the area. :cold_sweat: Who is this woman? Why is she singing so balefully? Is she a ghost trying to warn you of your impending doom? :bawling:

Imagine swimming in your seamoth. You travel over many biomes you already recognize, but you notice the water is getting murkier. You keep going until you can barely see a foot in front of you. Suddently you see a thin black appendage slither around you . You freeze, knowing you don't know how to get out of this place. You hear a growl and something resembling a gulper eel attempts to swallow your seamoth. You flip and use the PDM in the seamoth and slam on the reverse until the water clears up.

Thank god that's not in this game :D

The blood kelp has the best music ingame, in my opinion.

Oh yes, I totally agree! That zone's music is my favorite of all of Subnautica. It's both creepy and so awesome, I wish the game had more tracks similar to it.

    Any Reaper.

I have megalohydrothalassophobia, going alongside thalassophobia and all the other natural phobias that go along with the sea.

I'm not just scared of the ocean and of the unknown... I'm scared of the BIG things. Anything my size or larger.

That's kinda why I wanted them to program a GIGANTIC monster of absurd proportions in the Dropoff as a deterrent. Something that makes the Reaper look like a worm in comparison. In fact, post launch they should make the Dropoff its own endless biome of simply giant creatures.

    Either way...

I think I have the same thing bruh
