I think caffeine would be fun, but potentially hard to implement.

some one was talking about adding fatigue onto the game to make it harder...while at the same time giving the coffee machine a actual use by having coffee and sleeping counter the fatigue. which i wouldnt mind.

Introducing Fatigue to Hardcore mode and using Coffee and the beds to deal with fatigue is a possibility.

Just let it be another way to replenish thirst, in the same manner as the Medkit fabricator.
It lets you drink a Coffee every 15 or so irl minutes, giving like ~10 thirst back instantly.

Let the Vending Machine do the same but give ~10 Food back, allowing us to finally build a fully functioning Deep Sea Office Break Room

No need to make it complicated.
No need to delete it because it's not complicated.

What is their deal recently with removing established content anyways?
Like the Lava Zone entrances, just because the Devs' favorite youtubers all go the same quick easy way doesn't mean you have to remove the entrances at other parts of the map. I miss the Dunes' Lava Zone entrance. It was just a straight shot to hell and implied that the Sea Dragons had a feasible route to swim up and hunt Reaper Leviathans.

I mean I would understand if it was something like "Oh, we don't have time to flesh out all these large, detailed areas and bring them up to our desired level of quality before the 1.0 release, so rather than leave in vast, blank caverns, we've decided to fill them up and maybe come back to them later"

but stuff like that needs to actually be stated.

Wait, they closed up some of the more obscure entrances to the lava zone? :(

Some of my favorite ways were the really obscure ones, are the vents at the bottom of the grand reef still there?

No. Let it be only a cosmetic thing. If there is an animation of the player character taking and drinking the coffee, without replenishing anything.

    also, I NEED MAH COFEE!!!

I would love to make all the different plant seeds into refreshing and empowering drinks of various effect. No need to stick with coffee only.

I like the little incidental items you can pick up and place, even when they don't do anything. The coffee machine is a nice reminder of home on a hostile, alien world. I like to imagine my survivor standing in the break room in his base, pretending the coffee maker still works and the snack machine is loaded up. Imagining workplace small talk as he slowly unravels from the isolation, desperate to hold on to any sense of normalcy.

People have varying play styles in games like Subnautica - some are here for a survival challenge, some are here for exploration, and some focus on base building.

Or, if you're like me, you spend more time than is healthy for a human being in creative mode, spawning creatures to fight one another and creating 50 Auroras and detonating them all at once.

That's just my play style, anyway :)

The game needs more decorations, not fewer. Even if the coffeemaker continues to do nothing at all, I'd like it kept.

I'm just hoping that they'll allow modders to make decorations.

Yeah, the Grand Reef to Lost River entrance is gonna be the only one.
They closed up the entrances in the Mountains and The Dunes, and they're thinking of closing up the one under the Aurora "Because youtubers always just go through the Grand Reef"
Which I think is just silly.

Suggest they put something nasty in the passageway to deter casual entering. Also open the others back up and do the same (exploding magma vents, etc, there's tons of cool things you can do to challenge players who are trying to take the easy way out, without actually holding their hand and dragging them the 'right way').

The funny thing is that I can't stand coffee (even the smell of it makes me a little nauseous) and I think this is a stupid and arbitrary decision.

Nonsense, the coffee machine is even in its nonfunctional implementation the best interior decoration.

Given a coffee dispension and a drinkable coffee it would even rock further.

Inclusion of a sleep necessity function into the game isn't really necessary, but would improve the game. Of course coffee would decrease sleep need and mesmer attacks make you more sleepy. Your vision starts to blurr when you are 20% awake. Which makes the mesmer more dangerous as he tends to eat his asleep victims.

The standart alterra coffee could later get a new precursor refined recipe (data download) and made into the subnautica espresso.

Would you really much rather remove the coffee machine... or would you like it to make coffee?
    Always coffee every time.

Seeing as how I just found my own coffee machine, I don't think I would want the devs to remove it on the grounds of "I don't like it myself." Aesthetics are a thing, and it would be rather pointless to remove aesthetic choices.

I just need to figure out where to put it.

If they remove the Coffee Machine, they might as well remove the Vending Machine, Bar Table, Beds, Trash Cans, Luggage, etc... There's a lot of various 'fun' decorative items that liven up a base but have no functional aspect. (Yes I know Beds and Luggage have a mediocre use but they don't really improve gameplay.)

That said, I feel the Coffee Machine and other craftable items have a functional use for gameplay. Coffee could increase movement/swimming speed but decay food faster; Snacks could give a boost to food but increase the chance of "blood nutrient loss", Trash Cans could let us trash items forever instead of needing to deconstruct Lockers instead.

Give items in game a reason to exist rather than debate on whether to take them out. I mean, why go through the trouble to design and model items to exist in the game world that have no practical use, then decide at the last minute to just discard them?
