How to edit Subnautica in unity

Recently I have had a big interest in unity. I was wondering if I could edit Subnautica in unity. I think it's the engine they use. Thanks. I want to try to practice my skills of using the editor and JavaScript (If they use it). Thanks again. <img src="Face-smile.svg" alt=":-)">

    Yeah nah, that's illegal.

It is possible for the devs to let you edit something within Subnautica as a test for future employees. For example, create an alien plant using Unity to see how good of an artist a potential employee is. If you are just stating in Unity, then the devs might be able to give some tips, but generally having customers mess around with a video game company's game is frowned upon.

This will be for personal use with my own game files I mean. I have edited some animations before just want to know if there are 3D format files. Thanks

    Yeah nah, that's illegal.

 What do you mean, that's illegal? Neither modding, nor using Unity for personal use, are illegal to my knowledge.

This, it only becomes an issue if they try to start selling the modified product, or any of the assets.

I'll try and put everything from the Subnautica folder into unity. Thanks for the help anyway :) Also, if I do sell it (That I will not) no one would buy it.

I mean, you own the game files, so you can do whatever you want with them. I've considered using unity in the future when the game is stable and officially released to make several mods, however most of my ideas will either be officially in the game by that time, or other people will make them before I have time to, and will probably do it better than me lol.

It does not work like that. When you publish a unity game it gets packaged into a batch file format. This batch file format is not understood by unity, you cant go backwards once the game has been published. And the chances of the dev's releasing the source code and un-published files is pretty much 0%. You could probably find programs out there than can grab certain assets from the files but it wont help you overall.

Don't know about that, 7 Days to Die is built on the same game engine and there are some modders out there who have actually gone into the game assets and what not and changed some things around. Some of the modding they do requires direct modifications to game assets in packaged form while other mods just modify unpackaged files. It's been only in the past 2-3 years that modders got the resources to directly modify unity package files for 7DTD

Exactly. I figured that out a little while ago after this post. You are exactly right. There are some programs that can deconstruct them but that seems illegal.

Only your saved game. Thanks for the help anyway . Also creating models can look hard but can be easy once you get the hang of it so keep trying!
