Everytime i think ive built one cool looking base i come here and realise at least 12 dozen peeps built cooler ones than mine
Its all good tho, im always amazed at other people's creativity and ingenuity when it comes to base building!

Since terraforming is being removed in future updates, I decided to revisit my base with that assumption and plan my new base accordingly. Took me many different revisions as I kept going smaller and smaller with the idea that it's a lone survivor trying to maintain all this... well, besides adding a 2nd moonpool so I could park both my prawn suit and my seamoth at the same time. I decorated my cyclops too but that disappeared and didn't feel like redoing, will include the sign though since it's worth showing.
Used my name on the prawn suit, figured it's a suit and not really a ship and felt more fitting to have the pilot's name on there instead of an actual name for it compared to the seamoth and cyclops. Also using the alien containment to breed the peepers and reginals and putting them in the workshop/cyclops, varying my food intake between the 2 fishes and the grown food in the green house.
I'm still playing around with the solar placement but the bioreactor is there as backup incase I need it at night time, especially since my base is a lot deeper than the last one, from 20m to 90m so solar power is struggling a little bit. But I came to love the scenery, got a nice blue hue to it and the reef backs float above occasionally, wish I could hear them inside my base.

This has been my standard base for new games lately...

Was I the only one crazy enough to build a Reaper Observatory next to the Aurora? It's intense everytime you leave the base and nake sure you build a moonpool, or the reaper will eat your seamoth everytime.

I wanna see screens! I thought about that too but I panicked everytime when I tried to start building

I tried something quite similar as was dismayed to find that the moonpool wrecked the tube, and therefore the whole effect I was going for. Hopefully when terraforming is removed we'll be able to put a moonpool in there without breaking the coral. That'll be sick.

@randomstranger You have 3 options - you can click that icon that looks like a page folded over above the window you're writing your post in, then either browse your computer or actually drag & drop into your post. Or if you have a URL (I use steam cloud) you can post image tags, like so;

what if you play on xbox, how do you get it on here then
I have no idea what options X-box players have for taking screenshots or making them accessible on the internet. If you can take screenshots in-game and view them somehow from your computer, then you should be able to get a URL that you can link to here.
Thanks. It's definitely function over form - no chance of a bed in there, for example.

LeonHardt!!! You're back!!
Politics are... pretty terrible.
I mean, they always seem to get people into fights and encourage irrational behaviour.
I'm fine with making a compromise and sticking to the middle road, thanks.

Long ago, I got a game for my birthday. The game was Chrono Trigger. It was the first RPG I ever played, and it changed my life.
At one point in the game, for those unaware, you go to a dungeon called The Ocean Palace, a literal underwater magitech structure whose purpose is to commune with and draw power from a timeless monster/god.
Ever since that time, I have longed for an Ocean Palace of my own, of spectacular scale and beauty. Living in landlocked Colorado, this dream may still be rather far away from reality, but Subnautica let me create one virtually. I present to you The Ocean Palace.
Here we see the uppermost level of the base, dangling gently off the beach on the Floating Island. Pretty, but not exactly impressive.
But what's this? A vertical shaft? Where could it be leading?
Welcome to the main facility of The Ocean Palace. This massive facility is still mostly empty on the inside, but I've finally finalized the exterior into it's final form. Suspended several dozen meters below the Floating Island, this facility floats in the beautiful blue void of empty ocean.
But that vertical shaft doesn't end here. It goes down even further...
The developers haven't given me a place to build to dock my Cyclops. So I built my own. This purely aesthetic feature serves exclusively as a nice place to park my Cyclops after long journeys.
But the shaft still goes lower...
You see, the problem with a base floating in the void or on the Floating Island is that the Prawn Suit can't reach them to dock. So I kept my shaft going all the way to the bottom, well over a hundred meters deep, and built a moonpool here exclusively for the Prawn Suit to use.
This, ladies and gentlemen, is my glorious Ocean Palace!
...now I just have to figure out what to put in all the rooms...
Oh god.

Plea to the devs: PLEASE let us rotate the moonpool while placing it. My need for symmetry suffers terribly here.

You can collect all kinds of fish in the back and they won't randomly swim away.
Only a Moonpool won't fit without destroying the tube, so I made it a ship floating close by.

Nice starter base, a little cramped but nice
