Glass isn't that hard to come by. I usually head over to Grand Reef and harvest the crap out of the quartz over there.
its not exactly hard, but its arduous compared to gliding around gathering the abundant debris for titanium. Plus other than a few areas like the Blood Kelp Biome, quartz has a pretty spread out deployment.

Found out the Terraformer is ruining my games performance. This is the last base being put in my creative mode. I found this place by chance coming back from my Koosh Zone Base after exploring the wreck which got put in experimental mode a few days ago. I think this is the most amazing place to build in the game right now. The view is quite astonishing in every direction.

I will look for this place again in my survival mode and come back to building at it.

Treehouse, eh? I might steal that idea.

If you open the console (F3) and type in "biome tree" it will take you directly there.

    Nice base by the way.

This isn't one of my screenshots, but I found this one so cool that I had to post it here (original comment here) :

holy hell does that even work? I mean could you theoretically float near the divide of the "bars" and the leviathan can't do anything but roar angrily at you?

Also an interesting concept. Imagine somehow being able to synthesize something of that size for the purposes of containment or relocation? Like relocating reefbacks or a pod of gasopods or even that nasty leviathan

I tried something like that, but each new module I added lagged me out and ate through my RAM like candy. I got at least three Low Memory Warnings before I had to give up.

My new base on top of the lava castle - hardcore mode, stable build (Farming update). The tall vertical connector goes to a moonpool and a parking area for the cyclops I built at the roof of the chamber, where I can actually get the ships without crushing them. A nuclear power plant is on the foundation just behind it. I hope to expand the base deeper onto the main part of the lava castle in the future. Unfortunately there's no heat from the lava, so thermal power is out.

OMG! I thought my base was good, but your bases are so epic!!! I love the Reaper cage, I thought about making that myself but I wasnt sure if it would work... see now I think I should give it a go!

    Anyway, this is mine :)

It looks cool, I want to like it but the engineer in me doesnt like it. The base looks like it would fall apart when physics is applied.

To me that base is like the art right after the renaissance, amazing but intentionally "wrong" like elongated necks and what not. I think its called impressionism

Are they going to add in physics at some point? I thought they were considering base integrity to be physics for now? I too, have objections to the physics of the base though..... Even allowing for 'it's titanium'

Making the physics for base construction too real might ruin the fun of the game - it's a survival game, not an architectural study tool.

while it could ruin the fun of the game for some people, the survival point of yours is wrong. In survival you wouldnt build something that would break because it cannot stay together.

I do not feel it really needs to be implemented. My point was that looking at something that cannot exist in teh way its built looks awkward and "wrong" at least from my point of view

Here's my research ark before it lagged too much to continue. (Survival mode; had plenty of titanium but would have liked to have more glass than the 500 or so I collected.)

current game base, lost all my saves after an update. build 30667 this one is about 57 days into a new start survival mode. I still build modest do to low frame rate and unplayable with mega builds.

My current, and most beloved base, built into one of the spires near the volcanic island (and I did NOT use the terraformer there):
Above water, on the very top, there is an observatory dubbing as a greenhouse for decorative land plants:
In the middle there is a farm level for edible plants:
And right above the water surface, I have the living quarters with breathtaking views for both the rising and setting sun:
This part of the base is directly connected with the underwater part with a moonpool, crafting/storage/research room, and an extensive garden:

Dude that is super cool! How on earth did you avoid using the terraformer?

Thanks! And it's mostly just luck, really. If you manage to get a green outline and place an element in a space that is too small for it, it will automatically remove the land around it to make it fit. I started from climbing to the top of that spire, placed an x-corridor there and attached a vertical connector at the bottom. It created a nice shaft in the rock below, and just enough space in it for me to jump down to attach another connector there. Rinse, repeat. When I got to the level where I wanted the multipurpose room, I first placed another x-corridor to clear more space, then removed it and managed to squeeze the large room in there. It just so happened to create those nice columns on one side. Attaching and then removing the hatches on the other sides gave me the rest of the columns. It takes some saving and reloading to get the look just right (the GAMERESET command is invaluable here), but it's worth the hassle, I dare say.

The only thing missing is LIFE attracted to your base; there should be little schools of fish and other creatures attracted by all the plants. F---ing amazing, amazing, amazing!

I had briefly considered building there and dismissed it. But you've got me thinking about it again.

I'm impressed. I don't use the terraformer myself. I prefer the challenge of working with what's there.

I'd also never considered the aesthetic value of plants in observatories from the outside. I know that's where we find one of the planters on the island but the whole thing is so grubby I just scanned the planters, grabbed the fruit and veg and hurried back to my base to start farming to avoid starvation. Until seeing your base.

Now rethinking my whole approach to base design.

    Yeah, I know :'( , bad location I guess.

Or maybe I caught too many fishes to put in my aquariums and now they know where I live so they don't want to come any closer ^^

This is a very basic design but flexible and should be easy'ish to do most places.

3x3 foundation. Lay corridors around the edges with T junctions on either side of corners. Attach generic rooms. Vertical connectors x2 high on each T junction. Repeat as many times as you like. Moonpool can go on the top level - just need to replace a straight corridor with an inward pointing T.

Lets you have a nice garden inside the perimeter of your base you can enjoy. Easy to start as single level and expand upwards as needed / when you have materials.

It can work with x1 high vertical connectors. The generic rooms will just barely be touching. Doesn't look dreadful but I prefer them spaced apart. And with x2 the seamoth can be piloted between the levels without needing to leave out corridors or generic rooms to let it in.

I love the design and the size of it, but how's lag for you? I have a fairly decent machine and when I built something of a similar size I couldn't get more than 10 FPS...
