I have a lot of questions that bothers me: :D
1) How come the marines can vote to demote a commander? What kind of extreme democracy humanity is running in the future?
2) How's the "waste management" work? Do the marines do their bussiness in their armor? Do aliens have b-holes and wee-wees?
3) Whats up with those Tech points? What do they do? Must every building have at least one standardized tech point? What are they used for outside combat situations? Why the aliens hives grow exclusively on tech points? Do thay hack internet through it and watch all the trashy tv shows? Would limiting the use of the tech points win the humanity the war?
4) How does the res towers work? What exactly is res??? Does every room of every building have a standardized res point? How are the resources transported where they are needed? Do you have a res tower behind you doin' "whoomp, whoomp, whoomp" while sleeping or watching TV or are they used only in emergencies?
5) How does the Arms Lab work? Is it some kind of optimizing AI in a box or what? How does it distribute the improvements? Is there some wireless firmware upgrade going on?
6) Do marines die? How are they neutralized with same exact number of bites at any part of their body? Are they teleported away for safety reasons and put back together by infantry portal? Do aliens die, or are they absorbed and their conciousness preserved Cylon style?
7) How does the power node work? Is it some kind of plutonium battery in a stupidly designed socket, that must be hammerd back into and welded shut?
8) What are blueprint structures made of? How can you not shoot through them?? How do they do "poof" when alien jumps on them and obstruct marine movement? Why don't marines wear blueprint material to protect against spikes and such?
9) How does marines jump so high and far? Is it the famous superior TSF marine training? Do they have some chemical or technological help?
10) Do they get some sedation drugs or are just well trained, that they are not bothered when those big parasite bugs are crawling all over them?
11) How welding something repairs your armor? Is it safe to weld someones armor while he wears it and jumps around and shoots something? Are there any welding accidents?
12) How come your grenades and mines kills you but not your comrades? Is it a firmware bug?
13) They still can't make a decent flashlight in the future? Or are they just cutting marine equipment costs?
14) How does the shotgun have so big spread while having such long barrel? How is it the single pellets always observe to the same pattern.
15) How does skulks with their pointy feet stick to surfaces including glasses, force fields and on rotating fans(without rotating themselves)? How did skulks learn to quickly run and jump backwards?
16) Do skulks actually grow eyes inside their throats? Are the eyes on the surface only fakes/camouflage?
17) How do g-holes work? Is there some inter-dimensional travel at work(how do they circumvent law of triangle inequality)? How do they potentionaly dig through steel constructions?
18) How is a gorge able to get 10 big Clogs out of himself in a short period of time? Are they inflatable? Do they grow rapidly on contact with air?
19) How does a lerk fly backwards? What are the evolutionary adaptations on their wings for that?
20) Where comes the near infinite supply of lerk spikes? Do they have some hidden spike sac, or do they do it like Wolverine. How do the spikes move in straight line? Are they self propelled or are they using some interesting aerodynamical property?
21) Well, how do fades do anything??? :D How do they heal and feel refreshed an the same time with mere hand wave?
22) How do Onoses hatch out of small eggs? Do they have air sacks that inflate on puncturing the egg?
23) How does the Onos stomp damage the marines? Did they skip proper falling techniques in training? Are Onoses' stomp vibration frequency perfectly tuned to human skull resonant frequency?

Can't wait for answers to these :)) Or make some questions of your own.

Well, that one is more of a funding issue. The TSF doesn't have enough money.

Between not enough funding and nanites all your questions should be answered.

The alien in me disagrees. We win 55% of all games due to lack of TSF funding.

Exactly. Being defeated even by an enemy with limited ranged capabilities tsk tsk tsk Like we have no experience at destroing nature... :D

With proper quarantine and sanitation costing as little as 5 dollars a day, you can completely eliminate Kharaa infestation, and still feed an orphan in Africa!

The hive produces eggs, so do skulks, gorges, etc have to fertilize to hive ? where's the hole in which you do that kind of nasty stuff ?

Aliens do not have butt-holes. This has been a topic since original NS.

Aliens do not need to poop and pee as they don't eat. They are materialised by the hive when a threat is detected, and then are re-absorbed into the hive when the threat is cleared.

As marines are printed by the portal, they aren't the 'real' soldiers, merely nanite generated replicas, hence they can be re-printed over and over again, and the total number of marines is restricted by dropship holding capacity. Thus they too need not worry about pooping either.

Only one version of a soldier can be sustained by the team system on the battlefield, hence why it's not only the best soldiers replicated for battle.

Now let me try to answer everyone in the way I believe things are (following stuff might not be true, it's just a bunch of facts I heard somewhere paired with more or less serious theories on how things could work):

1.) Because Humanity, we all know revolutions from the past and this can end bloody. Doing this during a war with aliens can be fatal. So an eject button at your belt is a better solution.

2.) Aliens hatch with their only purpose to kill marines and don't have b-holes, while Marines are clones whichs experience and memories are saved on the HDD in the CC. The computer the marine carries with him (a very tiny one in the suit) is real time updating the TSF database

3.) Kharaa is a bacteria, the only weapon against that is a gas which comes out of the CC, the bacteria detects that gas and needs to hide himself in something where air can't reach it. solution is the hive. However for the hive to grow it needs massive amount of energy. TP are a direct access to the high voltage line of the building and the hive needs this energy to grow while the CC needs this to spread gas. The Aliens get spawned next to the hive to destroy the CC which is the source of the gas. The marines get deployed to kill the protection of the bacteria. That's the point where the game begins.

    4. What are res? nanites. both marines and aliens need nanites for technology and evolution stuff. While the bacteria actually lives in those nanite nozzles IIRC. Both sides use them in a different way though. The marines refine those nanites in the RT and transport them using the power network (Power nodes). The Aliens use a pure form of those nanites and transport it using the cyst chain. Why they still work on disconnected chain? Balance issues.

5.) It works the same way your windows updates. The higher damage output on weapons result in a faster bullet speed thx to the update while the armor increases because the onboard computer of the marines are reprogramming the particle positions of the nanites to make them harder

6.) Clones are not perfect so they will lose their ability to fight after enough damage has been done to the main body while they don't differ between fatal and non fatal hits. When they die they will just respawn in teh IP copy-paste style. It works similar for aliens but the hive only has the DNA in it's cache for a skulk body (and all structures + drifter).

7.) not plutonium but yes, the core is the connecting of 2 cables to close the electrical circuit.

8.) Blueprints is a thin skin similar to nanoshield that is only getting unstable when they come in contact with the pure nanites kharaa is using. Those pure nanites are obviously not in spikes and stuff

9.) Nanites in armor + computer + clones being made for combat only with already trained muscles at creation. The chemical drug for performance boos = catalyst packs

10.) Probably just training... again the drugs are cat packs

11.) Alot of training and a steady hand... number 1 wound in the TSF training camp are burns by welders

12.) I think they do damage to friendly units in compmod... Anyway for your version let's say they intentionally made mines and granades remember your DNA so certain marines with a certain believe can get their virgins (that's an evil one^^)

13.) Yep, money running short in times of war.

14.) There is one large shell in the shotgun that travels through the barrel to the front of the weapon. Then this shell explodes a second time with the 17 bullets flying out of the weapon. This second explosion on the shell is throwing it back in the weapon so it falls out at the place you see it falling out (can yu even see the shell falling out of the shotgun in this game?. Oh and the same spread because of very precise engineering

15.) Skulks have slippery glue at their feet so they can stick to any surface but when the surface they stik to is moving rapidly they will slide on it. So for the fans they stick to it but the blades of the fan slip through the feet however since they sticked to it for a short amount of time they lost momentum and can't fall that fast until the next blade arrives for them to stick and slip again (troll physics activate)

16.) They have eyes however they are almost blind and can only cause the colour change on alien vision. skulks, lerks and gorges can taste the air to see their invironment with the tongue.

    17.) What are g-holes?

18.) Yes they grow rapidly on air contact

19.) That question is similar to: "How does a lerk hover without flapping?" Small air turbines at the wings are the answer, they need to be spread to work properly. That's how they get their upward trend. It requires mor power for backwards though. That's why you can't glide backwards

20.) Like a lizard can regrow its tail when lost a lerk can regrow his spikes when lost. They grow insanely fast though. And those spikes have very tine diagonal cracks so the air can flow through them when they are shot, giving them their own rotation and cutting through the air better.

21.) The name Metabolize says everything. The wave move is to hurl air into their mouth so like a huge breath. Fades use the air to regain energy and heal. Similar with when you eat sugar... well you don't heal by eating sugar but you get the concept.

22.) Counter question: How do cats manage to get into those ridiculously small boxes?

23.) Humans tend to hurt themself if they fall down... So why no fall damage then? Because they have aperture science boots.

Ok that was enough bullshit for one day^^

    12) Oh, so the TSF is considering kamikaze. After all they are only nanite copies, you say...
    15) Ooh thats some quick feet. So you can glue things to a force field. Good to know... that opens space for some practical jokes in the future :)
    22) Because they are evil pricks and covet with Satan. The cats I mean, not sure about Onoses. :)
    23) Hmmm, does a human die after 5-10 common falls. It needs to be experimentaly tested!

    Never enough bullshit for me!

Lets see what I remember from my old ns lore which may or may not conflict with n2 lore. :D

    1) How come the marines can vote to demote a commander? What kind of extreme democracy humanity is running in the future?
Id assume in lore we could think of 'if your commander loses it under pressure'. (but its mainly a game mechanic)

    2) How's the "waste management" work? Do the marines do their bussiness in their armor? Do aliens have b-holes and wee-wees?
Apart that the whole mission only last a few hours? How long do you not need to go? They are also packed with nanites which basicly drug up the marines as best possible.

In the old days a command chair could be build anywhere (ns1) and hives grew near anything promoting life. (heat, water etc).
Id say game mechanics in ns2.. or if you wanna go lorewise.. the techpoint provides power both sides can use. Whats it used for outside combat times. Dunno, science stuff in need of raw power?

    4) How does the res towers work? What exactly is res??? Does every room of every building have a standardized res point? How are the resources transported where they are needed? Do you have a res tower behind you doin' "whoomp, whoomp, whoomp" while sleeping or watching TV or are they used only in emergencies?
Res is sludge. Its never been explained exactly what sludge is, except that.. if memory serves correct from ns1, it can feed/power bacteria and nanites both. The res towers & harvesters pump out the sludge and convert it to something the side in question can use.
It was one of the reasons humans are there.. They want this highly effective sludge. (and the kharaa dont like their food gone so yeh)

    5) How does the Arms Lab work? Is it some kind of optimizing AI in a box or what? How does it distribute the improvements? Is there some wireless firmware upgrade going on?
It analyses the situation and programs the nanites to counter it. While we fight the aliens, our nanites constantly fight the bacteria.. This is the grindlock. (it also prevents marines from dropping anything anywhere). All the upgrades are research how to improve us on the nanites level.

    6) Do marines die? How are they neutralized with same exact number of bites at any part of their body? Are they teleported away for safety reasons and put back together by infantry portal? Do aliens die, or are they absorbed and their conciousness preserved Cylon style?
ns1? yes. ns2? its a copy while the mind is in the system.. sort of. As long as either side hasnt won, bacteria/nanites keep it all there.

    7) How does the power node work? Is it some kind of plutonium battery in a stupidly designed socket, that must be hammerd back into and welded shut?
    dunno

    8) What are blueprint structures made of? How can you not shoot through them?? How do they do "poof" when alien jumps on them and obstruct marine movement? Why don't marines wear blueprint material to protect against spikes and such?
blueprints be nanites. The building needs to be confirmed to build by qualified personal. Marines hack around this. (ns1)
They dont go poof due to it being nanites.
When a alien comes along (a heavily concentrated mass of bacteria, the nanites go poof)

    9) How does marines jump so high and far? Is it the famous superior TSF marine training? Do they have some chemical or technological help?
Drugs.. nanites pump marines full with everything possible to improve survival.

    10) Do they get some sedation drugs or are just well trained, that they are not bothered when those big parasite bugs are crawling all over them?
Again, nanites which do stuff. Like drugs.

    11) How welding something repairs your armor? Is it safe to weld someones armor while he wears it and jumps around and shoots something? Are there any welding accidents?
    I assume nanites.

    12) How come your grenades and mines kills you but not your comrades? Is it a firmware bug?
    dunno

    13) They still can't make a decent flashlight in the future? Or are they just cutting marine equipment costs?
    Dunno

    14) How does the shotgun have so big spread while having such long barrel? How is it the single pellets always observe to the same pattern.
    Dunno. nanites? :P

    15) How does skulks with their pointy feet stick to surfaces including glasses, force fields and on rotating fans(without rotating themselves)? How did skulks learn to quickly run and jump backwards?
Aliens use their own rules of physics. See fade.

    16) Do skulks actually grow eyes inside their throats? Are the eyes on the surface only fakes/camouflage?
Aliens use their own rules of physics. See fade.

    17) How do g-holes work? Is there some inter-dimensional travel at work(how do they circumvent law of triangle inequality)? How do they potentionaly dig through steel constructions?
Aliens use their own rules of physics. See fade.

    18) How is a gorge able to get 10 big Clogs out of himself in a short period of time? Are they inflatable? Do they grow rapidly on contact with air?
Aliens use their own rules of physics. See fade.

    19) How does a lerk fly backwards? What are the evolutionary adaptations on their wings for that?
Aliens use their own rules of physics. See fade.

    20) Where comes the near infinite supply of lerk spikes? Do they have some hidden spike sac, or do they do it like Wolverine. How do the spikes move in straight line? Are they self propelled or are they using some interesting aerodynamical property?
Aliens use their own rules of physics. See fade.

    21) Well, how do fades do anything??? How do they heal and feel refreshed an the same time with mere hand wave?
Aliens use their own rules of physics. See fade. Their signature blink is a good example of them working through what seems multiple dimensions or something.

    22) How do Onoses hatch out of small eggs? Do they have air sacks that inflate on puncturing the egg?
Aliens use their own rules of physics. See fade.

    23) How does the Onos stomp damage the marines? Did they skip proper falling techniques in training? Are Onoses' stomp vibration frequency perfectly tuned to human skull resonant frequency?
I assume bacteria is doing as much 'research' as nanites are.

if you mean a gorge tunnel with g-hole: gorge tunnels are organic gate to another dimension. In this dimension you can chose which gate you can exit. Reports say that an experimental gorge in chernobyl placed a gorge tunnel being able to travel through time. People say that gorge cantacted the iluminati to give him a human mask that looks real. He also learned to speak english, this gorge inegrated perfectly into todays life and he was able to make people buy plushie versions of him... they say his name was @WasabiOne

Aliens use their own rules of physics.
You are the second person with that explanation:

Well its true.. I mean, for f sake.. skulks can leap onto thin air! Whatever extra dimensions they employ, physics as we know it does not fully apply to the kharaa.
