Ocean currents

I'm hoping there will be currents, cross currents, temperature barriers, and vortexes. This would affect player and NPC movement on a large scale, and also affect what creatures are present in a given area. Larger currents would be somewhat predictable, while smaller currents could change frequently. All could move or change in strength over time, and (with the researched technology) plotted on a 2D or 3D (holographic) display.

Strong enough currents would need to be taken into account when planning a course into the depths. So, for time-critical missions, or those where the player needs to get to a specific location, this would add a bit more preparation and strategy to an otherwise open-ended game.

    I think that would be cool because you know it adds to the physics of the game which makes it more realistic and just imagine your subs HUD saying "Too dangerous to descend please wait until currents settle" that would be soo COOL

    Seeing a recurring pattern, I think in the current state of the development process they should focus on more important things, like currency.

    Immersion. Imagine yourself floating 100 feet below the surface, looking down towards a rock outcropping with kelp and anenomies gently pulsing.

    As you float there, you realize your character is being pushed by an "eb-and-flow" slow current, moving you slowly towards the rocks. Then you look ahead past the rocks and see a few jellyfish floating much faster in a cross current. Realizing that you will be caught in this fast current in just a minute, you have to make a decision how you are going to handle the situation. If you get caught in the current, you may be pushed way of course. You look around for other signs of currents and see that 20 feet down, there is less movement. You decide to move to that depth and continue on.

    Now think of another situation without any currents. You still see the same rock and the same animals gently pulsing. Some fish and other creatures are swimming about, but there are no other signs of movement from current. You are more detatched from the situation and don't really feel like you are part of the environment, but rather just a camera moving about in another world.

    Current1y thinks currents sound like a great idea. I hope the current progress gives them enough time and currency to add currents in the game so Current1y can battle the deep dea currents like current ocean explorers do.

    Mmmm I really like the idea of periodic currents that are affecting the environment. Mmmmm

    The word immersion gets a whole new meaning in a game with underwater setting, doesn't it? ;-)

    If this idea is implemented I can really see a rise in concurrent players.
