    @Chizzler

    I'm envying you.
All I ever get are German servers filled with 15-17 mutes who seem to have invented (and perfected) TOTAL RADIO SILENCE.
I can only stomach talking with the void for so long until I snap and go on a killing spree...

Server ops aren't there to hold vets hands. If people choose not to read the server name, choose not to read the motd, and in some cases choose to just be a douche to the other players and server admins: then yes its not our problem. Drop the ban and move on. May seem mean or whatever else, but it is pretty cut and dry.

I have slayed people before, they got mad but then noticed they were on a noob server and started playing "right". I have just kicked people before, they change their name and come back doing the same stuff. And some people just don't care yet know they are on a noob server. It gets old.

Voodoo here. Would you please unban me from the servers? I'm assuming I'm banned because I was kicked yesterday. I joined the server to play because others were full. I played as a gorge and then went skulk. My k/d was probably 2-1. I noticed that the marine team was leaving so I joined there side and was then kicked.

I'm not one of those jerks that likes to run up the kills and I respected the admin's wishes. I like to help people out when I can.

By all means, remove the players who don't care and just want to pub stomp, but do not remove the vets who are trying to help. This is a competitive game and you are doing a disservice to new players by not allowing them to play with vets.

The only reason I have the skill that I have now (and I'm not claiming to be awesome) is by playing against people who are better than me. By keeping a server for only new players they inevitably develop bad habits.

    @digital_slap

Its true that just like chess you get better by playing a better opponent - but playing against the top chess players during your first game ever you will learn nothing except disdain and contempt for even trying to play. You will be stomped and won't even learn the basics.

This server is for the basics.. As has been said many times. When players are looking for a challenge, or to better their game, they can move on to another server.

The most a vet can help in these servers is command.

I understand, but I'm not one of those "best chess players" I just want to help new players! I was kicked for trying to help the marine team because they were losing players!

If you want to help then command and give tips over voice.

Killing anyone, on either team, helps no one in this singular server.. Poor aim marines need to play against poor movement skulks

How can I command if I am banned?? Sometimes the noob only server is my only option because all others servers where I have a good ping are full.

I agree with kicking players who just want to pub stomp, but I should not be punished for their actions!

Being your only option is not an excuse, it's very clearly "noob only" .. Not "noob only - unless you can't find another server"

I think the admins should unban you, provided you agree to command only, as the rules state.

To me It sounds like people are too ban happy in this server. I joined the server for the first time this weekend. I went gorge because commander was already taken. I just ran around and heal sprayed teammates and called out any major pushes I saw coming. It was quite good fun being heal bitch. The team figured out the "fat little pudgy creature" heals them so I think i did my job. I didn't kill any one (well maybe like 2-3 with heal spray on accident) so I don't see why vets couldn't do the same. Even on marines if you just play recapper and I suppose just purposely keep your kdr at 1:1ish then marines wouldn't be bad either.

I only like alien comm, if I can be permitted to do that at least I would love to keep helping.

Awesome work doing servers like these. Keep it up! Wish we had some EU side too. (Haven't actually checked.)

If you look back farther in this thread @currently, you will see that we previously allowed vets to play support-only field roles, but it got unwieldy. Too many different interpretations of what 'support' meant, too many vets who were unable to prioritize teaching over winning, and just plain too many vets. It got to the point where half the server population were vets playing nerfed field roles, taking slots away from the rookies they were supposed to be teaching.

So yeah, we had to take a hard stance on it, which is unfortunate in many ways, but it also makes it much easier for us to admin. The rules are now very simple and very clearly stated, and anyone who doesn't follow them gets removed. If you would like to see a rookie server with allowances made for vet field helpers, I highly suggest setting one up yourself and taking the time to make sure it gets managed properly. It might take some of the load off of us. :P

That being said, if your KD stays under 1:1, we may not even notice you're there...

@Digital_slap, post your NS2 ID here or in a PM to me, and I'll get you removed from the ban list so that you can do some commanding.

Unfortunately I've been too busy this past week or so to get on NS2. Looks like things are a bit quieter now, and I'm looking forward to getting involved training up the new recruits again assuming there are still some people left who didn't snap this up 2 weeks ago. Glad to see this server is still going strong. Huge respect to the admins and the vets helping it complete it's objectives. You guys rock!

Got to agree with Havok on the rules. They tried a more relaxed approach previously and it was bent & broken by some players. The problem with allowing support classes under certain conditions is it then becomes largely a matter of opinion as to whether individuals should be playing... this only leads to disputes. A blanket rule is far easier to enforce.

although probably too late for this batch of rookies, I think having a select few vets who've proven to take the mentor role seriously could possibly apply for permission to take a support class role in the future. As a commander, it can sometimes be difficult to focus on both the match and guiding rookies, so having another mic'd up player on the field giving tips can be really helpful in teaching the rookies. I wouldn't want to see a relaxing in the rules, or vets filling up the server but a few specific players could get in with prior permission from admins.

My last 3 Highlight games on my twitch: have been positive commanding for the rookies, I will try to take time to command and educate. While it can be difficult to juggle both, that comes down to the individual's multi tasking skill.

Anyone know what this server will be like lag wise from the uk ? Just started playing NS2 but haven't found a server with anyone on Comms yet :/

Must say I'm really enjoying it thou, a much needed break from BF. My only regret is not finding it earlier :(

@Bigbud78 you should be fine on this server from the uk. I frequently played on dfa owned servers and they have great performance. It's better to play on a good server with a ping of 100 to 150ms than on a crap server with a ping of 20ms.
Furthermore the dfa chaps and chappettes are all thoroughly lovely people. I do not have even 1 negative word to say about any of them :)

I'd have to agree with what chizzler said. Having a vet com is fine, but sometimes someone on the field helping the push can be a big help to rookies. I always try and follow the rules on the server, sticking to spectator when the chairs are occupied, but sometimes it would be nice to be a support marine welding up the rookies so they die a bit less.

I've been wanting to learn the com chairs for a while now, but I always yielded it to someone more familiar to it. These servers are perfect for myself wanting to learn a new aspect of the game.

Also, is there any command to alert an admin to a potential vet abusing the server? A couple nights ago there say someone who went 50:5 or something crazy as a fade. Watching him play he pretty well knew what was going on. His profile was private so you could see how long he had played either. It would be great to have a way to alert an admin of someone who is potentially a vet just looking for easy wins

There's no server command to alert us unfortunately, but you're more than welcome to add me or Haplo on steam and give us a poke if you see something amiss. Between the two of us we have most of the hours of the day covered, but we don't always have eyes on the interface.

I was thinking of starting a combat server for noobs/average players only - is it possible to implement a script that would look at the score of a recently completed game, and automatically kick & ban any player with 40 net kills? The ban would only last for a week.

Just made an account to post, is there any reason why I'm constantly kicked from the server? It's usually the only server with a good ping for me that isn't completely empty. My K/D is under 1:1, I have like 4.5hrs played total. I was playing a game a day or two ago and got kicked, thought maybe it was just a weird connection or something so I let it ago. Yesterday I played on some other server that had a decent enough ping. Tried playing on the server again today and I get instantly booted as soon as I join.

Here's my stats page if it matters at all:
    http://ns2stats.com/player/player/208025

I literally got the game like last week in the humble bundle and these (1 and 2) are the only regularly good servers for me. I'm not a vet and I'm not even that good (although the game I got kicked from I was probably doing the best on my team because I had a double minigun exo and nobody was focusing me, but even then it wasn't like I was like 50/30/2 or anything ridiculous)

EDIT: Just saw the one post about getting a warning if they think you're a vet, I have no idea if I got one, I usually tunnel vision and don't see the chat unless I'm commander or waiting for an extractor or something. Is there a way to show previous chat messages or set them to linger on the screen longer than like 5 seconds?

@casino99royal - If your steam profile is unfinished or set to hidden, we may have just assumed the worst, or otherwise you may have been mistaken for a smurf. Either way, I've removed you from the ban list, so you should be able to jump back in now. Sorry about that.

just tried it, frustrating experience... but it'd be ok, except someone tried to chair jack me when i was defending base. some people need to learn etiquette i guess.

Vets shouldn't be fighting in the field at any point, not even to jump out of the chair and kill a lone skulk destroying your base. I understand how maddening that can be, but the goal is to teach the rookies to handle these things, not to take the responsibility out of their hands. You really just have to not worry about winning / losing at all and focus on coaching, help them to get as much useful practice out of the experience regardless of the final outcome.

That being said, I find macs and sentry turrets to be far more useful when commanding these rookie games than usual, and really can help to keep you sane. ;)

oh, that wasn't the frustrating point, the frustrating point was getting jetpack requests every few minutes. well before advanced armory was up, and when keeping any kind of map presence at all, required a constant stream of medpacks, then comes the attempted chair-jack mid game. eh well, guess not being able to hit the broad side of the barn is problematic no matter the level of experience.
