Why are we removing functionality, functionality that a lot of people used obviously, from the server browser? Shouldn't UWE be ADDING, instead of REMOVING, features to an already extremely mediocre server browser?

Edit : to those not understanding my skeptic response, it was because the user talked exactly like someone who was recently banned .. And guess what? I was right, it was him.

You see some users come here to contribute, critique, converse.

    Others come to troll.
People like him and @farknut don't have any interest other than inciting and slander. And more often than not are disgruntled previously banned users who are very obvious and typically have some form of agenda in here. Go ahead and click on his name to see his standing and all of his posts, you'll quickly see what I mean.

Are you pointing that out because you don't have an answer for him? Pathetic. He could've been playing and or lurking on the forums for months. The question still hasn't been answered by any reasonable definition of the word, despite your contention that it has.

I can't believe the uproar this wee, temporal change to the BROWSER has caused! This is ridiculous.

Instead, we should focus on the real issues this patch caused! Switching back to Arial for the scoreboard makes the game unplayable for me, while it was just PERFECT at 244. The game now feels disjointed and lacks any sense of art-direction. Balance is totally off now. In a visual sense. I can't recommend this to my friends anymore.

    Uninstalling!

    Money back!

There are answers plenty already. If he wanted to know why, he only had to read through the thread.

Considering the response was a joke from the lead art director about a horrendous desktop background, I felt it was a very tame response.

let's not be judgemental. ns2 has a variety of tentacles and therefore should be an equal opportunities game.

@hakenspit you've stated your disagreement, read that more is being planned, been given a reason, reason wasn't sufficient enough for you, so now you want what exactly?...
    @ Ironhorse
The closest thing I have heard in relation to a reason is one for why it was removed and that was some dodgy server operators overwrote files thus thwarting the server mod flag.
I have yet to hear a reason as to why it was so crucial to fix before the detailed server view was ready (being this is whats being explained is the intended replacement) and we could have just replced one with the other.

Sorry if this is unreasonable but there is clearly a portion of the community who agrees its removal without a replacement does not make sense if there is no reason.

I would also like to not see people who are voicing their frustration ridiculed by the dev team, in jest or not it shows a poor grasp of the situation and simply was inflammatory.
Despite a lot of baiting UWE have remained civil and not stooped to such petty sort of comments, they are a customer...and if UWE are not like EA then they should actually give a toss about what their paying customers say...good and bad.
Mocking a paying customer for getting frustrated and complaining is very much like EA...and not what I thought UWE was about.
They could have simply let it go through to the keeper and not inflamed the situation further.

@hakenspit Ya i understand and agree it probably was an oversight. Is that the confirmation you want? The best answer was what I just posted last page : changing said files led to bad results. Potentially problems on the client end. And considering more and more were finding a way to do this it was worth ceasing.

Now as far as how time sensitive the situation was to call for that, well only the devs know, but I still think it was a great call that slightly inconveniences some for one patch at the cost of avoiding tech problems from seemingly "unmodded" servers and the scarlet letter that was the yellow stain.

And personally, as one who almost exclusively plays vanilla, I haven't seen the big deal.. There is no change from how things were before as i couldn't tell which were vanilla from the browser before anyways if it wasn't official, I had to wait to get in game. Now I can disconnect while loading at least.

The most important part is that improvement is coming like always.. Its the best part of ns2's high frequency of patches.

As for responses to users in the forums :
    I support equal treatment.
We're all human, pretending the devs aren't is silly and only gives a green light for exploitation through uncivil or disrespectful discourse.

Surprised no one else has posted that ns_tram load screen still has the old map on it, would be a little confusing for some people who don't religiously read patch notes.
Hmm, yeah, this is my fault. All those loading screens have to have the various photoshop files updated manually to get the new minimap on them, which gets a bit tedious, especially if the maps are continuously being updated (which they generally are). I usually try and wait for them to settle out a bit more, or update after them after there have been very large revisions, but it totally slipped my mind with these recent Refinery and Mineshaft changes. I'll try and get those updated for the next patch.

    --Cory

My fault for not mentioning the changes as well.

Ok I thoughed it over for a while.

I do think they should have removed it when the option to see which server had which mods, was added.
But I start to agree Filtering on mods was just doing it wrong.

Good servers run admin mods, which technicly should make you a modded server. So they hacked around the files a bit in order to show unmodded.
But you can probably do that aswell with other mods.
So yes.. not filtering on modded server is ok.. however..

Now if a newbie joins a hevily modded server they may think that it IS actual ns2. It may very well be miles apart from ns2.
What if that newbie stops playing like that?

@Darkling: The way it is presented now during map loading is pretty straightforward imho

Though to be fair some people don't even realize that they are on a Balance Mod server despite the loading screen info AND the huge text message in the ready room that tells them that this is the Balance Mod and not the regular Natural Selection 2 experience.
But those people will probably still not notice that even after you display the mods directly in the server browser…

Harsh words. I get a lot of disagrees because there are a lot of fanboys on here who will disagree with hard facts, as well as plenty of others who just don't understand, are bad and/or new, or appreciate criticism. I'm trying to help this game get better by pointing out things that are wrong with it. Mindless praise gets NS2 exactly nowhere. I'm happy to praise things done right, I'm just not seeing a lot of them.

I don't take much stock in user score just because there are plenty of idiots who will click spam/abuse on a post they don't agree with, and I don't agree that others should either.

Your content is never the issue, @farknut , your delivery is.
That is why you have so many disagreeing with you and flagging you. You are unpleasant.

We are social primates with varying biological and thus neurological makeups - in this world we must "play well with others" in order to coexist.

Funny enough, your message and it's content are often far more absorbed by users and developers when its presented in a peaceful, tactful, respectful way.
The opposite applies as well, as you've already experienced.
    Sincerely hope that illuminates things..

Ya, I just love trying to join a server and wasting three minutes as the mods fail to download for the sixteenth time and having to start the search for a server all over again wondering if I can get one that isn't bloated with junk I didn't want.

It IS kind of a nice sign that we're fussing over server display options and the Devs dissing people instead of, you know, balance issues.

I have encountered no balance issues myself. Although I know I know.. a single players experience is not enought info to validly claim a %.

But I saw both aliens and marines win quite often.

I'm not going to read all of the stupid remarks from people that think moving the modded flag was a bad idea. I'm gonna lay down some points though.

    1. If you don't like it then join the Official UWE servers. If you don't want to do that, then stop playing the game for all I care. Short and sweet: you're acting like a child.

    2. If the mod actually changes the game, then it is listed as something else under DUN DUN DUN: "GAME". Wow, that was hard, huh?

    3. If we go back to the old way then you still won't know what servers are modded, because we'll find a way around it! You don't like that? Tough! Unless you own a server, you have absolutely no say in how it is run! Period!

There is nothing worse than a taker. Someone that expects people to provide something (in this case a server) and then wants to dictate how it should be run.

Nobody is dictating how to run the servers. They wanted the ability to easily find a server that meets their needs. Its kind of you to dictate that their desire to play the game unmodified is childish though.

It's hard enough to find a decent(read: Non-stacked and/or troll-filled) game without having to dodge mods.

200 hours, for 25 dollars, still complaining? imo ns2 is MUCH better then any game you have on your steam list, and you probably paid less for it.

if you're not happy with the game that is fine, i normally would not argue or pick on someone who regrets purchasing the game, however, because you posted useless pictures of you deleting a game with tentacle porn (yes it is indeed tentacle porn because you can see a tantacle inside a womans, well you know) in the backround just means you want unnecessary attention, so here it is

Do like the new/old scoreboard text, but, I noticed you added numbers down the sides. Twice I've seen two issues with this, the first is that sometimes the numbers go over the top of the speaker symbol, the second is that once the numbers reach 10 they run off the left side of the scoreboard.

Glad to see Arial in scoreboard, to be honest I liked the normal font(Arial?) a lot more before it changed to this narrow-tall-Aliens font somewhere around 203rd build(the first PAX-NS2-Build).

Missing old GUI as well(minimap with actual structure images instead the squares, minimalistic HUD, health/armor in % instead of these shredded bars, realistic weapon icons instead silhouettes).

    Good update anyway =)
