Be honest, how many of you increase your brightness/gamma?

I don't. Never really gave it much thought. I'm generally happy with my in game performance and don't feel I need any performance enhancing settings. Plus I enjoy the graphics of the game and I don't want everything to look bleached.

People have been doing this since Counter-Strike.

Gamma is up to 1.06, that's about the only change i've made.

    I prefer the atmospherics ON.
    **edit
    -shadows OFF
-change gamme if there is sunlight on/near screen.

    You can change the gamma?

Those Nvidia/Catalyst control panels let you change gamma. It's a shame that you can't do it from within NS2.

Never. It looks terrible, I can't stand it.

I don't know if it's the case in NS2, but any multiplayer game in which hideous settings are mandatory to play competitively are fundamentally broken.

I could not care less if I get 10 frags instead of 12 by having dark look dark. That being said, mineshaft is pretty goddamn dark.

I have atmospherics off because flashlights blind myself with it on. Otherwise gamma is set to default

I don't even think I have enough lighting enabled to get dark corners. I would probably turn it on if my machine could handle it.

They've been doing it as long as there have been options and/or console commands to do so.

    I used to run Return to Castle Wolfenstein with cg_drawgun 0, r_overbrightbits 4, r_mapoverbrightbits 4, r_rmse 72.

Everything was white/pink, and players were black.

I have everything set to default. I enjoy the game the way it is. I don't judge others if they feel differently, but it's just the way I like it.

I have everything set to 'off' that can be set to off (except multicore rendering of course). With shadows off there are no worries about areas too dark to see. However I draw the line at altering my video settings outside the game. If it's in the game, I'll use it.

While I'd like to have all the settings on (and my machine can handle it) the reality is that as alien I don't need it (since alien vision is always on) and as marine I need it all off since alien vision is far too powerful to counter with it on. If marines had a counter (like night-vision or something) I might consider it. Otherwise I'm fine with it off.

pretty pathetic that people feel the need to go to extra lengths to gain some unfair advantage over other people in order to win

The only game I had to tweak setting to see in the dark was DayZ. Not because it gave you some sort of advantage, you just actually can't see sht at all in the night!

That's the way its meant to be <!--coloro:orange--><span style="color:orange"><!--/coloro-->*Snip* - Angelusz<!--colorc--></span><!--/colorc-->. Oh, and if ever there was a game in which you gained an advantage from turning up your gamma, its ######ing DayZ.

Fgt? Really? Gosh, video game communities can be embarrassing to be in some times.

I have a BenQ XL2410T(120Hz) Monitor and it has got a FPS-setting for "better" contrast, brigthnes,... in FPS games.
I use it most of the time but NS2 looks far better with the "movie"-settings.

gameplay + shiny looks = keeps dc hooked on games.

So no, gamma will not be changed.

I play with the gamma / contrast on full, along with running nvidia lightburst to bring back the good old CRT days.

    <a href="http://www.overclock.net/t/1339384/zero-motion-blur-lcd-nvidia-lightboost2-hack-looks-like-crt-looks-like-480hz" target="_blank">http://www.overclock.net/t/1339384/zero-mo...ooks-like-480hz</a>

See above link for those with lightburst 2 monitors.
