Gorge's should have Catalyze.

As it is now, there's no reason for a Gorge to help build structures because Catalyze is so readily available, faster and can be cast anywhere on the map including Hives and evolving players.

I think a solution to this would be moving the ability to Gorge, replacing their "help build" functionality and causing a constant drain upon their energy. This would give the Gorge a purpose throughout all stages of the game and encourage further synergy with the alien commander. Somewhat mitigates the balance issue of aliens being on the offensive constantly.

Drifters could then be moved back to Hive energy.

Gorges can already help build everything except for hives (you go up to and hold use (e) on the structure). Though, it doesn't build any structure much faster than its default build speed.

I like this idea, the gorge should be the builder again,

being a medic should be a secondary function

It would make more sense than the rather specfic and entirely undocumented 'hold e to build' feature.

Although I disagree about drifters, having them tied to resources is better than hive energy I think, as resource income is more fluid, and it means you don't have to keep switching hives to build things.

we could simply use healspray for that, i guess that's what most players would anyway try when playing first time gorge (unless they played marines or ns1 before).

Sweet! I like that idea a lot: Simple but somehow intuitive! :)

Looking forward to that including the remove of the silly -25% delay between each healspray ( the delay is too high, the Gorge can't keep himself alive running away from a single Marine in early game, he just a free-kill... ).

the self heal was balanced around the previous numbers ( -50% self heal for gorges because of that high ROF) now im not sure if that was intentional to nerf that as well, but currently it is like 30% self heal to what it used to be once (pre build 180? not sure)

Yeah, you could add it as an effect to healspray, just change the particles a little to look more like the catalyse effects.

It kinda does already with the swirly particle effect of the new spray. +1 support for speed-build Heal Spray!

Agreed, but it needs more yellow glowyness to match properly. Basically when you hit a structure with healspray, it should put the catalyse effect on it for a few seconds.

I think it's a cool idea, though I'm worried it's going to further water down the alien Khamm.

Yes that's a much more elegant solution. I find myself having to teach new Gorges that healing a building doesn't actually speed the construction process quite often.

Something needs to be on Hive energy. Having to switch between hives was the reason I suggested Drifters over Cysts, it introduces some degree of macro strategy with managing the energy, something sorely missing since the energy/pres switch.

what's wrong with simply using +use for building?
  • NurEinMenschNurEinMensch Join Date: 2003-02-26 Member: 14056Members, Constellation
Perhaps heal spray is more intuitive to new players but a little HUD icon similar to the marines "hold e to build this" message would fix that.

It can't be used on evolving players,Hives or upgrades and it's much slower than catalyze. The commander can also catalyze things before you even arrive as a gorge.

I actually like the idea of giving cata to gorge.

Currently they are useless for anything but healing, even so much more so when the patch rolls around putting a limit on cysts and hydras.

More and more is the gorge becoming a useless pig in the room, Give it some love.

Why does something need to be on hive energy?

Also I find switching hives annoying, not strategic.

Giving gorge catalyze makes them more useful, but usefulness isn't the only problem with the gorge.

The main problem is the gorge is BORING. Standing next to structures and holding a button down is busy-work, not fun gameplay.

Structure energy only makes sense where it affects the structure directly. Having what is for all purposes and effects a global energy pool split between different structures isn't all that good imo.
  • XariusXarius Join Date: 2003-12-21 Member: 24630Members, Reinforced - Supporter
I agree, they should pool all the energy to be honest.
