You may want to back up your ns2 folder

Hey folks

Just a friendly word about the new editor changes. Max has done an incredible job updating and fixing the editor. There are awesome new features like better performance and improved lighting preview (its now virtually identical to what you'd see in-game.) However, as we all know, stuff inevitably falls through the cracks given the quick pace of development.

The editor has undergone major changes, you may want to save a backup! In order to do so, you need to backup your entire natural selection 2 folder (NOT just the ns2 folder). Hopefully this will ensure no lost time or inconvenice for anybody.

Have a good one and keep mapping :D

This is great news, if not also a little scary. I will be opening old unused files first, to make sure there are no corruptions or other stray issues with files before accidently destroying my current wip :)

I am backing up the whole 'natural selection 2' folder, rather than the ns2 folder :) I know what you meant, but semantics being what they are, if people only back-up their ns2 folder, they will miss all the editor files. :)

Thank you for that correction, I'll put it in the main post.

You don't have to worry about your level file getting corrupt.

So what should we worry about? :p

    Materials? Skyboxes?

General usability. You may have no problem with it, you may find the bugs Max hasn't been able to squash too much of a problem. So if you're planning to do a lot of mapping in the near future it might be worth backing up as a precaution.

You should always worry about your level file getting corrupt! Always make back-ups of anything important!

Backup is indeed a good thing. Two maps from NS1 got lost due to a harddisk failure with no backup, ns_bast and ns_nancy. Both of the maps were later recreated however.
