Throwing Grenades ike its WW1

<div class="IPBDescription">Grenades = WTF</div>Hello, any chance a dev could take a look at a modern grenade launcher?

I have used them befor in a real life application, they go like 160 meters, okay in the bush they are best used to hit trees above enemy locations at 20m but *man* do those suckers fly, the Grenades in NS2 are just lol, I saw a marine fire one, another marine walked in front of him and it *bounced back* ... like damm, way to forget your 'tech dev' humans, no wonder the Khara are such a threat.

Have you ever seen someone hit within the 14m arming range? Thats like having a 40mm hole punched several cms into your chest....and god help you if it's further than 14m and the warhead is fused....

This isn't HL1 right? Do you remember that crazy 'ball of whiz' thing?

    Grenades bouncing off friendlies is a little silly, yes... But that's gonna be a hard problem to solve without turning friendly-fire on.

    Yes we should give marines near instant hit contact detonated explosives which can blow holes in the terrain and instantly kill anything near them, because it's realistic.

    I foresee no issues with this whatsoever.

    So first you complain about the grenades flying slower compared to real life? And then you complain that they don't deal enough collision damage when they hit an object compared to real life? Maybe the lower velocity is the reason for the nonexisting collision damage?

    And about the arming range. I remember reading that the grenades have a bacteria sensor that detonates them only when the grenade touches an alien or internal timer of the grenade elapses. I guess whip's have some kind of antibacterial coating to bypass this mechanic.

    No idea which grenade launcher you were using. But the one I carry goes out to 300 meters.

    This is an indoors grenade launcher, designed specifically by the TSA to allow safely attacking around corners (since marines can't lean), and the payload reduced proportionally to not blow holes in the space stations and ships they usually fight in. Marines are immune to friendly fire from the grenades because nanites.

    and somebody should tell now again that grenade launchers in ns2 are not realistic!

    Realism does not go hand in hand with NS2. We are in space fighting aliens with the ability to warp in buildings and harvest magical resources from holes in the ground.
    Weapons should not be realistic in games, they should be balanced

    I like the boom!! WTF that comes with the nades, but I guess if you changed it to a sonic explosion (like ARC) it would be flashy but sorta makes sense against lifeforms only (Marines have standard TSA supplied helmet ear muffs :D)

    Grenades should NOT be an insta-win weapon. It's bad enough you get to keep your smg while mounting them. I like the fact that they bounce off your team mates. Now, god forbid they require thought and coordination to use. THE HORROR!

    I don't mind that they bounce off teammates that much (though it has gotten me nuked a couple of times), I mind that in combination with the incredibly slow travel time. People usually zigzag around like the TSA's been handing out tetrameth in their wheaties (although, who knows, maybe they are?), and so a nice clear shot may be blocked when the grenade gets there a second or two later.

    we're talking about a future world where giant plants are attacking us. Realism's not really the no.1 priority here.
