New waypointing visuals for marines

IMO the system with the large arrow and the smaller ones isn't exactly logical for new players, or pretty.

My idea: instead of the arrows, a kind of beam of light on the floor that's "flowing" to the objective. A white strip on the ground where some blue particels flow through or something. Or it can even just be a very subtle blue line on the ground with arrows every 20 feet, pointing in the direction of the objective. It would be invisible to other marines but you can see it because of the augmented reality visor you have. ;)

To calculate the coordinates the beam has to follow, UWE could just use the pathfinding that is being worked on for ARC/MAC/Drifter/...

any thoughts on the mechanic or visuals?

I support this idea. I never know if i've reached my destination or if the arrow is behind a wall...
drawing a path on the ground... hm, maybe. I'd also like to see the path of MACs and ARCs (just for testing) to see how the pathing works and if i can leave them alone or if they will run into a wall.

    I like this idea too.
I think the current waypointing system for marines is the same as ARC/Whip waypointing. (MACs/Drifters can go through vents).
And they will be working on waypointing somewhere in the near future. (If they haven't already begun) As far as I recall the 'new guy' (sorry, hate the 'new guy' term, was it andrew? the guy from blizzard) was supposed to take a look at it at some point :P

Waypoints would be SUPREMELY more helpful if the name of the zone was written on the destination waypoint, and/or was displayed on the map.

I didn't make this (I think xVisions may have?), but I think it's the best mockup for how the "in-between" waypoints should look.

    Distinct, concise, and unobstructive.

You mean in the same way as Dead Space?
If so, it would be extremely helpful to those who've just picked up the game, as the maps are quite disorientating at times. And from what I hear, the maps are gonna get bigger.

I'd also like rooms to be labeled in this same way, as I really hate switching to the map just to tell the comm where I am.

I just want to say I was watching TrueVerits' gameplay videos and the waypoint triangles totally cover up a big part of the screen, making it impossible to see/aim at distant enemies in certain situations. They should at minimum be partially transparent to avoid this problem.

Personally I want more HUD information, not less. "Streamlining" can take a hike.

I didn't make that one.. but yeah i like the idea of some sort of ground tracing. They still have tons of things to do and at this point that stuff seems more like polish than necessary. You can navigate the maps with the current system.

    That would be sweet! But...

This is a great alternative if they don't want that. This way the marines can tell what objective they were given while they go to the waypoint. (I don't think there is currently a way? Could be wrong.)
