I've noticed them on other forums as well. Either bots are now so smart they can solve captchas(!!) or they've resorted to using real people for that part.
EDIT: although I don't know if we use captchas during the registration process here

    scnr ;D

Actually captchas never have been a serious problem for spambots.
In another forum I managed to get rid of them by simply adding a logic question to the registration process.
    Something like:

    "What is 3+5 ?"
"Please enter the middle number block of the following 123 456 789"

Spambot count went down from 10/week to ~3/year and registering users didn't had to decipher a cryptic captcha.

I've seen that used on another forum with good effect too (although the question was what year was the company founded in). There are still spambots, but it's much less of a problem.

There are too many spam bots in these forums! Why dont the mods change the registration method?

The mods can't change the registration method. We're doing the best we can when we catch the bots.

The best tool we have for tracking down the bot posts is when you guys use the "report this post" button. That sends the mod-bat-signal to alert us of criminal scum.
