is there an alternative payment method (non-paypal)

Hello,

I would really like to purchase NS2 beta but the only payment method that I can find involves exposing personal information to paypal.
I cannot with a clear conscience agree to paypal TOS and especially not to their privacy policy.

QUOTE (https://cms.paypal.com/us/cgi-bin/marketingweb?cmd=_render-content&content_ID=ua/Privacy_popup&locale.x=en_US)

You accept this policy when you sign up for or use our products, services or any other features, technologies or functionalities offered by us on our website or through any other means (collectively the “PayPal Services").

So my question is:
Is there any alternative to purchase other than using paypal and selling my soul?
I would like to pay using my Visa Credit Card.

Regards,
B.

When you click the buy option there is a "Check out" and a "buy with paypal".

Select checkout, you can then use a credit card to pay.

I use paypal all the time and I am fairly sure I still have my soul.

I have the same question, not because I hate PayPal but because I do not have a creditcard. PayPal also only allows creditcards for payment in my country.

Steam offers different payment portals but I don't think you can prepurchase NS2 through Steam yet?

I understand it's probably not possible but I wanted to try at least because I'm dying to try the beta :)

Hey marvsin, as I said above, next to the PayPal check out it gives you a second option to the left. This allows you to use a debit card as payment, there are four options which I believe inclused Amex, Visa and Mastercard.

    Hope this helps!

Where are you from? In the US you can buy prepaid VISA cards. You can buy one at a store with a preset balance, say $50 and then you can use it like a debit card.

You can have paypal without credit card, I do.
If you have a way to send money to a bank, then you can do it and after a few days, the money will be on your paypal account. Only thing is that your paypal account needs to be the same name as the bank account from wich you send the money.

I live in the Netherlands. Never heard of anything like that before but I could ask my bank, that might be an option.

Oh that might work too, I hadn't looked into transferring the money directly to PayPal yet. Since I just saw the creditcard icons on their website (and they frequently clash with our national online direct debit service) I didn't consider that might be possible.

Yeah there are two options but one is "use my paypal account" and the other is "checkout" which seems to require a creditcard. At least I don't see the option to choose any differently.

Thanks again for the suggestions guys, I will see if I can transfer money to paypal directly from my bank if I sign up for a full account!

    Update:

Wow.. Ok so I signed up for PayPal, jumped through all the hoops and thought I was all set. Then I went back to try and pay and PayPal came back with the message loosely translated: "To verify this transaction you need to enter your creditcard details. This is just for verification, no charges will be made." I'll contact support and see if I can fix this.. Will let you know what happens.

They always need to do that to verify, contacting support won't help.

Basically, if you have a debit card, the card you use to access your bank account directly, you can pay for via check out. Almost all debit cards are VISA these days. All you will need is your 16 digit pan number (big long one on the card) and the CV2 (last 3 numbers) directly on the back of your card along the signature strip.

If you don't have a debit card from your bank, then making any transaction online will be impossible unless someone accepts cheques.

EDIT: The drop down menu does say credit card but as the title says debit and credit card, I will assume the payment will process as the payment service from the provider handles both sorts.

You know, there is also an option to verify using your bank account... @ profile in the menu you can use the option called "Add or Remove Bank Account". Which will take one or two days, they send two sums of money in the range of 0,01 to 0,10 I think it was. Then you have to verify the amount of those transfers to active your bank account so to speak...

Dutch here as well as you can see, and I use it for all of my Steam purchases for example. Alongside other things as well, which don't allow our local iDeal :)

    [edit]
This might come as a surprise to all you Yanks here, but we Dutch don't like credit cards at all :P

Well thanks again for all the suggestions guys, I worked it out with PayPal, it was a slightly convoluted process (to me anyway) but Kouji was right I ended up verifying my bank account and I'm now the proud owner of beta key (or will be soon as the email arrives ;))

I liked the picture at the end of the order process too ^^

Is this an aversion to purchasing things on credit or just carrying around a plastic card instead of cash or a check? If its the first, then it should be easy to use a debit card to do everything the op wants.

The Italians are the same. Heck, they don't even like debit cards. They're one of the slowest movers in the banking society in Europe.

Yeah we use debit cards mostly. But Paypal and our banks aren't seeing eye-to-eye on a lot of issues which makes paying through them using a Dutch bank account a giant hassle. Even now I just got notified by Paypal that it's going to take over a week to process my payment even though all my details have been confirmed and I signed a contract saying I'm responsible for the payments I made.

Also speaking personally I don't trust or like Visa very much. It's legalized loansharking if you ask me.

Anyway I have a followup question, the page I got at the end of the ordering process said "we'll send you the key shortly" but I'm assuming because Paypal won't guarantee the payment until next week I won't get the key until then, can anyone confirm that? Would explain why I haven't seen any email from unknown worlds yet.

Did you use a debit card or are you doing a direct transfer from your bank account? Direct transfers take about a week even in the US.

We like to use the direct payment card you receive from your bank, it withdraws money from your bank account instantly and indeed we also prefer cash or checks. Debit is something we do not like either. Sure we have credit cards, but the general concessional is debit sucks :P

I think our philosophy is something along the lines of "if you cannot pay for it, you cannot buy it"

Xcept for big things like houses and perhaps cars :P

It was a direct transfer, there was no option for anything else.

I lost my soul years ago, in a fiddle contest. Hardly know the difference, my soul just sat around all the time eating all my pringles anyway, the freeloader.

    Fair enough.

In the U.S., the debit card is basically our direct payment card. It directly takes money from your bank account and works at ATMs. However, it works pretty much anywhere credit cards are accepted (my debit card has a mastercard logo to indicate this).

    Sorry for the late reply.

This of course I have seen too but the reason I did not go with this option is that it is still paypal.
Here is what you get when you click on this "alterantive 'Check Out'":
As you can see "Payments processed by PayPal" - with a link to their contract regulations and (in there) the privacy policy.

The way I see it, it is just the account creation form without the password field - thus a temporary account the so called "PayPal Guest".
You just suggest that I should do buisness with paypal instead of doing buisness with paypal AND creating an account.

So the question still stands: Is there a payment method not involving the use of any Paypal services?

    Thanks

If there is they're not advertising it. I ended up signing up with PayPal for this one transaction, a week later they're still verifying my payment. Should've been done today they said but it's after 6 and no word again. Privacy is one thing but they don't even handle their core business well.
