<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->My problem is in finding a decent server. Anytime i log in there are at most 2 or three servers with ppl playing? Are there just that few betaplayers or do i have some kind of weird problem?<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
The line i maked with <b>**</b> applies to your question because that is the stage 162 is currently at with players waiting to play with 163.

The whole purpose to the pre-orders early access is to give you a unique hands on experience of the game it's self as it is developed.
Instead of only getting a glimpse of pictures and video footage that is typical of generic press releases from time to time you get a the change to view a near weekly chance to try out for your self new things as they are added and give very early feedback as how these features play back as well as find and report on any problems you find should you wish to put it on your self the task of a bug reporter or just simply enjoy a glimpse of the early development stages.
For this reason it should be apparent that this early access you have is indeed an unfinnished product to wich you can influance the progress of should you wish to leave feed back. Due to the nature of this process this means of course it is not going to be a producting and an absolute 100% playable state before what is accepted as the actual final release. As a result of this, the typic pattern of play that occours is this:

A new patch is relased, Players go online in larger numbers to test the new patch so a lot of games are on the go at this point.
The players log and record their experiance with the new patch, reporting new bugs and updating the team on performance increases or losses on their system.
<b>**</b> The player base then dies down again after few days or a week while the new issues are fixed and work on performance continues then the cycle starts again.

Also because the game is in a development stage, Hosting companies do not tend to take interest in providing servers for games at this stage because code is still being written wich means bugs, high resource demands and instability, All of wich are work in progress and requires too much administration time from a hosters prospective to constantly restart & monitor servers as well as patch them so frequently, They simply do not have the time to take on such a task when they have their paying customers to deal with.

Anyone with experinance can of course seek unoffical sponsorship from a hosting company should they be able to convince them there is some publicity to be gained for providing a free dedicated box but of course they will take this away if they need it for a customer.. Theres all sorts of if's & but's.

Dedicated servers are not cheap, to provide servers for 30,000 players would cost on average $10,000 - $30,000 depending on the games dedicated server efficency that detarmins how cost effective hosting a game is by how many player slots you can get on a server without hindering performance.

UWE has to manage their budget and avoid spending money where possible before the game is released. Its hard to convince people to pre-order a game. many wait until its finnished before they buy wich makes it difficult for Indie developers.

hope this answers your main question as well as covers other angles relating to it.

Hey I've got the artifact problem related to using 4gb of system ram with a 1gb video card with only a 32-bit os (XP). I was wondering if anyone has found a way to fix the problem without taking out the ram. I tried lowering the maximum pre-rendered frames, but it didn't work. Use to love NS looking forward to trying NS2. Thanks :)

Hi i got a problem, I just bought the game, and well its quite sluggish but its bearable but the main problem is when I activate the mic, it lowers the game sound, but it doesn't bring it back up and I have to keep moving it back up from the mixer (windows volume control)

Also unrelated, abit, when I check the console, I see ERROR SOUND, stuff...if that's got anything to do with it.

    I attached my dxdiag

also any way to increase performance?

I am having major problems on launching NS2 and I believe I have done everything that has been suggested or mentioned in the forums to resolve this!

<b>To make you understand my problem better:</b> I have tried to explain the Fatal Error that appears after I launch NS2 and get a black screen on launch <i>(as I don't know how to attach an image on this blog)</i>
<ul><li>Firstly the fatal error window, I have to Alt+Tab to it (as NS2 is frozen on black screen on launch). This has 2 files log.txt and mindump.dmp</li><li>The log.txt file which appears when I click view. (to me it seems like irrelevant sounds atm, as Onos and some things mentioned aren't really implemented in the game yet, which makes sense)</li><li>minidump.dmp file does nothing when I click view</li><li>Lastly, when I try to submit this form, I get the "submitting" window, which in itself crashes and never sends. (I have to Ctrl+Alt+Del my way out of this one)</li></ul>I have had this issue for over a month, but now that I have time on my hands I would like to be able to playtest it along with other users who have also bought this game.

<b>Other methods I have used (inspired by forums):</b>
<ul><li>Installing Visual C++</li><li>Attempting to change the Options file in notepad with different resolutions/running in window mode/lower quality values (Nothing changes, even when running in window on lower ress - same thing happens)</li><li>Completely Un-installed all graphics drivers and re-installed them (with newest ones, always!)</li><li>Re-installed Steam</li><li>Re-installed NS2</li><li>Verified Integrity of Game Cache via Steam</li></ul>
All the above with no change what so ever in the way that NS2 fails on start-up.

I hope you understand my frustration and you can help me resolve this issue once and for all!
Any advice would be hugely appreciated, as I would love to get back in to the game - especially with all the amazing stuff UWE have recently released! (damn those teasers just rub it in :P )

    <b>My system specs are:</b>
    Windows 7 64bit
    4Gb Ram
    nVidia 8800 GTX
    Quad Core Q6600

    hi,

since the latest version of ns2 , everything is transparent for me ( in game). The only think I see are the sources of the lights. This is quite annyoing. I guess it´s some problem with the GPU / Graphic driver. I didnt play NS2 for a while so I dont know if it is because I updated the driver. But I wont install a different driver because I need the latest one to keep TA Spring running. Would be cool if anybody has a solution. Maybe it´s just some console command to fix that.

I got the same bug :

    <a href="http://getsatisfaction.com/unknownworlds/topics/walls_are_slightly_transparent_and_everything_is_extremely_dark_in_fullscreen_mode" target="_blank">http://getsatisfaction.com/unknownworlds/t...fullscreen_mode</a>

But on a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 Ti. The weird thing is that it's working totally fine sometimes (expect the 32bit os memory problems). It got worse when I reinstalled directx. I tried to change anti-aliasing options and checked usual stuff (cache integrity, drivers, ...).

    Any idea ?
  • YuukiYuuki Join Date: 2010-11-20 Member: 75079Members
Ok forget it. I reinstalled the GPU drivers and it's working great now. The problem was installing directx after the drivers.

Hi SepHir0tH77, thanks for the elaborate post!

I'm not an official member of the UWE team, just a volunteer but I will try to assist.

    <!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec--><ul><li>minidump.dmp file does nothing when I click view</li></ul><!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

These need to be opened with either windbg or <a href="http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/blue_screen_view.html" target="_blank">Bluescreen view</a>
If you're not feeling up to either, please upload it to a file hosting site (<a href="http://filevo.com/" target="_blank">Filevo.com</a>) and link here, I will take a look at it.

Could you also post (or include with above zip) the log.txt file from C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Natural Selection 2 please?

    Regards,

    Zag

Hum still have this problem :

Usually if I launch NS2 just after a reboot it's fine but if I do something else for a while I got it back, really weird. Anybody knows what exactly is causing this bug ?

Recently my laptop screen has been turning itself off after a while of playing NS2. I have to hold down the power button to switch it off. The main body of the laptop feels really hot too. Is it just a case of making sure the laptop is kept cool? What are some ways to do that? I don't have fancy equipment...
  • Shrike3OShrike3O Join Date: 2002-11-03 Member: 6678Members, Constellation
You know, I just started getting that same issue yesterday on my desktop. I dropped in a new PSU, and I've been able to play for a while... but then bang, black screen, and I have to turn off the computer (no other option to get control back). I figured it was due to the power source, but are other people having this issue?

Got about 10 minutes worth of in game action then the screen turned off and the laptop became very hot. Only started happening with this patch! What went wrong?!

Should I stop playing the game? Is it dangerous for my laptop?

just payed for this beta key and cant get it to activait on steams product activation screen it comes up with steam server is unavailable.
your computer is either currently unable to reach the steam servers, or the service may be temporarily disabled. Please try again later.
I have tried with my fire wall swiched off but it is still happening.
also I have open the said ports.
    any help out there? :-(

I think steam is having trouble, but I'm not sure they still do. there is a thread around here for ppl that can't redeem their keys. so you can always look there.

So, I got the server list empty issue.

I've installed and verified the files twice. I've played with my firewall settings and even put my computer on the DMZ. I've left the game open for 10-20 min to see if that worked and through all of this I have had the steam overlay off. And yes, NS2 is in my list of approved programs for the firewall.

I'm now at a loss of what to do next.

Btw, I'm running Vista if that matters.

Wait a minute in the Server Menu they will appear normally.

    Not for me :(

    EDIT:

As it turns out, even CS:S couldn't find any servers. The solution was to start Steam with the -tcp option. Now things seem to be working. I'll edit this post again if I have any problems actually playing the game. For now, the servers list is populating :D

I tried reinstalling the game twice, turn off my antivirus and firewall and followed all the setups for the troubleshooting but port fowarding. Any ideas?

I tried port fowarding Half Life 1 because I dont have Half Life 2 in my router. When i enter this (found on the support page) It says that it is invalid.

    Open Ports on your router
Make sure you open the following ports:
    TCP Ports
    27000-27100
    UDP Ports
    1200,27000-27100

Or follow any Half-life2, yes HL2 configuration guides because ns2 uses the same ports as source.
Some HUBs have configurations built in for games, Enable Half-Life 2 & Half-Life

Precise run, but you lose around beginning Physic on AMD/ATI carte systems. Is more beta than the DirectX. If you hold your method up to meeting you don't condition to disarray with DirectX, but you do pauperization to set Physic if you don't use an nVidia scorecard.

    Another method is:
Create a local game and then load the Serverlist.
I don't really know about the -tcp command.
Maybe look if you have UpnP on on the Modem.
