Old
Core 2 Duo E6300 1.86GHz
3GB DDR2 800
1GB HD 5750

Average FPS went up from 20 to 30 on rockdown, and up from 15 to 25 on Tram. Bloody good patch for me. ^^

I just bought a Pentium E6500 wolfdale chip for my old Asus P5B-E mobo, and it fails to POST... The fan cycles up and down. I put my old CPU back, and it works. Can anyone help?

Maybe I need to upgrade my BIOS? I tried googling about my mobo's compatibility, and couldn't find any cases. The best scenario is probably it's just a faulty chip.

[Edit]New CPU
Pentium E6500 2.9 GHz

FPS went up to 30-60 on Tram(!!!) on an empty server.

Asus should have EZ-flash on that mobo (i have on p5n-e),
so just get the newest bios from the asus site - MAKE SURE IT'S THE CORRECT ONE
put it on a USB-flash and go into bios and choose it
rest is auto

Ah I see, thanks weezl! I just checked the Asus support site, and it looks like I definitely need a BIOS upgrade to use my new chip.

in the com com chair / hive im getting 60 fps with a low of 40 - silky smooth gameplay.

outside the chair Im getting like 40-30 with a low of 25-20 depending on whats going on the screen. the game is very smooth in the com chair (aside from some glitches like the text for the items sometimes overlaps over the cost for that item, depending on the lenth of the sentence next to it.) cant wait for the game to finally get smooth enough where skulks and marines dont warp around like crazy.

I'm pretty sure I saw an improvement but I don't have good numbers saved. I played tram last night with about 50-60 FPS (last time before that must have had something like 30-40 FPS).

Running at 1600x900

Win7 Pro (64bit)
Intel i7 920 @ 2.67 GHz
Ram: 12.0 GB
Video Card: Sapphire Radeon Vapor-X HD 4890 1GB
Motherboard: ASUS P6T Deluxe V2

I will edit the post with better number later on. Posibly again with coming builds. We could all try to do this.

This was in Rockdown, it felt okay to me, not significantly better than in B161.
33 FPS would be okay, not good but playable, if there weren't the frame spikes. It seems there is not much input lag, which is good, yet the drops below 25 FPS are very noticeable, they usually occur when running for a while from room to room.

what's the vram on your card? if it's less than 1gb then being on high detail settings is going to make your fps choppy and drop often.

b161 FPS: 20fps avg | 50fps peak | 7fps troth

Notes: b162 is much more "jittery" it hits the troth a lot more often and gives an overall less playable experience. Also, the peak fps seems lower, probably a side effect of the jittering. In comparison, b161 was more playable. My impression of this build is, as was with b161, still unplayable; perhaps more-so with b162. Remains perplexed on how NS2HD manages to sustain a playable, in-fact, near immaculate FPS and record the game at the same time.

I upgraded my graphics card this week, and it made a huge difference.

Win 7 64 bit
i5 2500k @ 4.2 GHz
GTX 560 Ti (from a 9800 GTX)

FPS now 40-70 on tram, but server lag is the biggest factor now.
But I've gone from having 1/1 K/D ratios to about 12/1 with the upgrade. I was even called a hacker in one game! haha

Forget that, I'm an idiot, I have a GTX 260. When writing that post I turned around to look for the packaging of my graphics card (I have a wall covered with hardware packaging) and looked at the wrong package, wasn't really focused.

The VRAM on the GTX260 is 896MiB.

I've been doing consistent benchmarks with FRAPS for every build. Since there is no demo feature, I've had to settle for clean runs. (ie. no extra buildings or players) This offers a decent look at a best case scenario performance level. Unfortunately, I started using Rockdown before I realized I should probably use Tram. (which I'll be adding later) The other caveat is that I only tested once per build using my two runs.

Athlon II X4 640 3.0Ghz
4GB DDR3 1600 RAM
Geforce GTX 460 768MB OC
Windows 7 x64
1680x1050 @ high settings, no AA/AF

TEST #1: Marine walks from spawn to alien spawn. (45s)
TEST #2: Skulk runs from spawn to marine spawn and then back around the opposite side to spawn again. (60s)

BUILD / AVG FPS #1 / AVG FPS #2
155 / 40.4 / 44.4
156 / 38.7 / 44.2
158 / 39.1 / 42.8
159 / 38.2 / 42.8
160 / 39.4 / 45.3
161 / 40.8 / 45.4
162 / 45.4 / 52.4

Note that while I didn't get any noticeable improvement in any of the other builds, I got a good 4.5 - 7 FPS improvement in build 162. In fact, take a look at this graph for test #2:

Build 162 is purple, showing a convincing base performance improvement over all the other builds.

I still think performance has a long ways to go. I'd like to see averages get above 60FPS for recent computers as well as server ticks maintaining 30/s. I think that's when we'll really start seeing what's what.

Unfortunatly at this moment I can only speak about what PC specs result in an unplayable game.

Current Computer:

Windows 7 x64 Pro
Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200 2.33GHz (stock)
4Gbs DDR2 800Mhz Dual Channel RAM
AMD Radeon HD 3450 - 256kbs (OC'd) <----- I am Laughing right now about the OC'd part!
Standard Platter Drives

I have purchased a new NVidia GTX 560 Ti card to hopefully solve my issue with unplayability.

Updates as soon as I get my new Video card.... Crossing Fingers!!!!

Yeah. It helps to use a level which is much more detailed and intended for NS2 play with significantly more time spent on it :D

Good to see some sort of improvement is going on though, even if it is only on a smaller scale in Rockdown.

Will be looking forward to seeing how upcoming builds compare for you!

I wanted to update this thread with some benchmarking I did between 162 and 164. I basically did PsuedoKnights tests on tram.

Intel i5 2500k (OC'd 4.3GHz)
4GB DDR3 1333 RAM
AMD HD 6950
Windows 7 x64
1920x1080 @ high settings, no AA/AF

TEST #1: Marine walks from spawn to alien spawn and then back through the tram tunnel. (60s)
TEST #2: Skulk runs from spawn to marine spawn and then back through the tram tunnel. (60s)

BUILD / AVG FPS #1 / AVG FPS #2
162 / 55 / 58
164 / 50 / 51

From what I can tell, performance has dropped about 5 fps from B162.

In 163, I basically lost half of what was gained in 162. It's not too surprising since decals were added. I'm still ~3FPS (~7%) over 161 and prior builds, though.
