Download a file just for a sound bite? This isn't 1999.
Next time, throw it on YouTube or something.

Is the standard edition able to play the beta now? Or is the game still under closed beta which only special edition players be able to access?

    Also; my current PC setup:

    AMD X4 620 (2.60Ghz)
    2GB RAM
    512MB GeForce 8800 GT
    WinXP SP3

How well will my PC be able to handle 4v4 in the game's current "optimization" state?

Edit: Okay so I found the answer to my first question from the wiki:

    > Beta
    > Beta testing access is available to people who pre-order either the Standard Edition or Special Edition (http://www.naturalselection2.com/buy), limited to 10,000 participants. The Beta phase began on November 19, 2010 with Build 155, and is the current version.

Still can anyone shed some light into what might my PC's performance be? Thanks in advance!

Yes it is... and your system sounds good enough. ~30fps on medium depending on resolution.

I have a nearly identical system. Its playable, but it will get choppy, especially in combat. 40fps by myself in a listen server, 20-30 in game, dropping to 10 sometimes if there's a lot going on.

It's playable right now, still some glitches, however it is very fun when you get in a server that is running smooth. The early skulk vs marine is still awesome, that is until gl's and flamethrowers come out, then its only awesome for the marine side. I've seen pings below 40 on a couple servers(live in usa), and fps for whole matches stay above 30(that is not the norm) as long as no one spams hydras and sentries it works pretty well(fade hit registry needs to be better or their range needs to be increased, hard to hit with a fade unless the marine is a major newb) but playing as a skulk/lerk/marine is lots of fun already and I'm happy with my beta purchase I just made.

Unfortunately I'm only interested in what the forums have to say - when the majority of posts here are expressing how fun and amazing the game is, that is when I will make a purchase. My $00.02

I don't think I ever saw a forum where "the majority of posts [...] are expressing how fun and amazing the game is". People come to the forums to vent.

    cool story bro

forums are people expressing their opinion, positive opinions are the number one selling point for a game in my opinion

And I just expressed mine. Are you affected 'bro'?

have you seen the starcraft2 forums? lol 99.99% negative

the game is still not finished, and its really stilll in alpha, but they need more testers so they went to beta, dont expect it too be shiny and polished. It's good that you dont pre-order because you woul dbe dissappointed. Failing too see how far they have come, and only wishing to see the final outcome is a natural opinion to have. Me how ever, i like to watch uwe squirm ;)

People on forums aren't truying to be a selling point. They're trying to vent off their frustration.

Good that is all i needed to hear. I'm SO buying the game now and gona start playing. I'm a huge NS1 fan myself and I still remember the times when i used the custom skins for the marine structures as well as the alien skulk to look like it was a bug from starship troopers.

Man i had so much fun back then, the devs deserves the support for making NS2.
