The fade is a TERROR

<div class="IPBDescription"><3</div>Just had my first battles against a fade with another marine. Love the new fade with its absolutely terrifying battles. The worst is hiding in a silent cooridor after running away from it, then having it transport into the same room and slaughtering you after you think you're clear. Loving the new blink mechanic, very Nightcrawlerish.

I just played a bit as fade, the new teleport system is frikking awesome! Now you can teleport ANYWHERE you can see in one leap, and you appear there instantly. No more silly ass flying around the room, now you actually teleport!

I would really like to see some blood FX when the Fad stabs/impales/slashes people with his giant sword-claws. I'm hoping that just wasn't done yet at the time of the promo video.

You ladies forget the Fade (back in the early days of Natural Selection) used to Teleport. It isn't new, just revived.

Yeah, just played a few games. Things have gotten a lot smoother. Big issues: With every new structure noticeable (but very small) drops in performance. Over 6 players = crash. My spec still can not handle things like I wish it could.

Apart from that, had some really fun games. The blink is better now (and somewhat different/better than any of ns1's blink styles).

You usually end up blinking behind a marine (good thing, hehe), but there is nothing more satisfying then getting the blink right.

    1. Aim at the marine whilst he runs away from you = instantly at his back
    2. Aim at ceiling above him whilst he is firing at you from behind a structure = death from above
    3. Run out a doorway one way, and then blink to opposite side = confused marine
    4. Blink into rafters in tram marine start = pissed off marines
    5. Go pack hunting with some fellow fades = lots of dead marines

It is a lot more fun than the ns1 fade... looking forward to more improvements performance wise. I am dreading the onos when it finally arrives :E

Looking forward to NS2HD's video of some fade attacks, can't appreciate the games quality with my setup unfortunately.

Yeah, I didn't like the new Blink in NS1 as it was more like levitating then blinking, but I do remember how hard the old blink was, it was a bit unpredictable where you'd end up as you had no preview as you do in NS2. Also, the new blink looks very similar to the old NS1 blink, but you used leave a purple trail behind so everyone could see the direction you blinked to, but not so in NS2 thankfully.

Its funny because when I heard the fade was going to "teleport" i thought to myself "I really hope they do it like nightcrawler" and when I saw the result I wasn't disappointed, still I feel like the animation itself has room for improvement.

After playing the fade itself, I can say that although I really like the concept, the whole "floating body" indicator of where you are going to blink to looks really dumb.

Will have to wait tonight to try the new blink out :(

He is terrifying. I was actually genuinely scared when he popped out and stabbed me in the first scene of the unofficial trailer I posted. Didn't even matter that I knew where he would be hiding. I reckon soon the sound of the fade's blink will be the new 'Fade is up!' callout.

His face does look a bit derpy, just like the lerk, but I like the rest of his model. Can't wait to play him today!

It was awesome, right up to the point where you got stuck in geometry and died (or if you had the luck to be on the right kind of server, typed /stuck).
I still got stuck with the ns2 blink occasionally, but since you can blink right out now it's ok.

Eh, I know it's all a WIP but when blinking, I think the preview model should be a little more transparent and the preview cloud should be the prominent part of the preview. If you tried it in the other builds, there was just the preview cloud and I liked that alot.

Other than that.. fade could use a little tweaking but could look a lot worse.

I liked how fade blink was in 154 (before it was officially added), where you would point with the cursor and it would go where its pointing, facing the way you were.

It's cool to have an indicator as to where you are going to go, but using a huge fade model and having which way you face being randoml can be a bit hard to work with.

It doesn't face randomly, it focuses on whichever target is nearby.

Oh really? haha I never noticed.

Thou its done it for me when noone is in view. Unless its aiming towards the closest marine, despite being rather far away?

I think we all agree the whole fade model (for aiming the blink) looks dumb and will probably be changed

When I met the fade on a server I really didn't have time to actually see the model. Most times it was just like: *puff* *slash* *puff* *slash* *puff* *puff* *dead* ;)

Ok I gave it a try on a lan server and the new blink is just awesome !

The fade is really gonna be hard to kill now.
Now I'll wait for the jetpack or HA reveal :D

There is a limited range on the blink, it would be good to extend it if a little.

Indeed, its a clumsy placeholder but it seems to get the job done.
Tho i'd much rather just see some form of arrow on the ground (like the texture that pops up on the ground at your cursor when you select an AoE-spell in world of warcraft, but way way smaller ofcourse).

That you see a representation of yourself is great, you really see where you're ending up as well as the state (falling, standing and I guess crouching) and direction. The only thing that can be argued against it is that there's no cool shader-effect on the model itself. Like having it become transparent and glow purple, etc. But by doing so you also remove the advantage of seeing how visible you'll be while in a shadowy area for example something I personally think is not worth that bit of visual flair.

The Fade ghost model that appears when blinking is planned to get an effect of some sort, at the very least some transparency. We have bigger things to sort out at the moment, however.
