Just a quick note with regards to HldsUpdateTool support for the dedicated server (so you don't need Steam installed to download it), it does support being provided a valid Steam login/password in order to access protected content (ie, you don't need to release it to the masses to just get that updated).

Not sure if you wanted to test that tool out too during Alpha.

not sure if there's an answer for this yet, but with the fixes for this patch that should (in theory) make the alpha now playable, what is an appropriate server size to play on? i doubt the alpha can handle anything like 32 players yet can it?

I doubt 32 players would be a good idea. We're still working on reducing CPU usage on the server and others things which will most likely result in high pings.

Still going to try to squeeze in those 8 other gameplay items, eh?
Gorge slide angles would be nice.

Why "Accepted"? Shouldn't that just mean that you've agreed to do that task?

Edit: oh n/m, it means accepted by testers... Sort of confusing given that the rest of the statuses are from a developer perspective.

Glad to see things worked out :)

Pretty excited for this patch, I think it's going to make the game feel and play a lot better. Plus, sentries!

perfect, so i go to sleep an play tomorrow :)

unluckily i got sc2 today as birthday gift :/ cranking on my sc skills back from 2001 :P
total new style to play, but funny. i expect the same (in better quality) for ns2 :)

visual you topped the step from sc1 to sc2, but i am not sure yet if you can even the gameplay requirements :/

    but, we will see :)

Can you guys continue to leave the option to the server ops to decide how big of servers we want to run? I know 32+ would be laggy at first but after a few patches etc I'm sure it would work great on newer hardware.

*Excitement* my gf is going away for the weekend too so if this alpha turns out to be reasonably playable might be time to go for supplies and have a testing / playing binge :P.

For the game or for his girlfriend when she gets back from the puncture repair place?

Baddum-tish! Thankyou, I'll be here all week.

    i lol'd.

but yeah, for the game, people are going to expect it to be utterly lagless (or that's the impression i'm getting around here). and if it isn't, Rage.

Well, obviously the formula for turning build numbers into beta release numbers is buildnumber*0.001. So, build 151 is beta release 0.151. Once it gets to 1, it'll be beta!

(in case anyone was wondering, this isn't serious, it's a terrible joke full of made-up stuff because people really need to quit asking this, even sarcastically)

Er I don't think UWE forced any server operators into a certain player limit, it was a simple answer to whether "32" players would be playable in the next build, which it sounds like there still needs further optimization to achieve.

No-one removed any options for server operators to try 32 players...

You know, some day we'll look back on all of this fondly. "Remember those 1000-MAC caterpillars crashing servers?" Ah nostalgia, you are a hell of a drug.

back in 2002 there was a nice cs comic in german, called bender,
when steam 2.0 came out, he draw this: <a href="http://www.counter-strike.de/modules/screenorama/showbender.php?id=133" target="_blank">http://www.counter-strike.de/modules/scree...nder.php?id=133</a>

it came to my mind when you mentioned the 50 players ns2 server :D

haha steam final release was also a nice one : <a href="http://www.counter-strike.de/modules/screenorama/showbender.php?id=155" target="_blank">http://www.counter-strike.de/modules/scree...nder.php?id=155</a>

good old times (was back in 2003)

wow, i havent seen those comic's in awile, They actually made CS skins for those cartoon characters because it was so popular.

skins where pretty cool.. maybe we will have the ability to do that in NS2 someday.

but on another note.. when the new patch comes out.. i think there should be 1 day that allows the standard (beta) people play... they prepaid also.... give them some love

Here is a picture of the NS2 Server room after the Alpha version was released to the pre-paid costumers.
